  • "Our 2 year old granddaughter loved all the toys in the house which were waiting for her."

She also loved the outside play area with all the garden toys. To top it all, Martin the kind farmer, allowed her to feed the farm animals, which she loved doing. We all had a great time, Joanne and Martin, the owners, made us all feel very welcome,. We would definitely recommend it with or without children. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

Cottage comfortable and well equipped on a working farm with friendly dogs, Love the way the farm is managed for wildlife. Great area, far enough from the hustle and bustle of the central lakes but close enough for a visit if you wish and close to great birdwatching sites and fantastic cycling roads (but pack your climbing legs)

The cottage is very spacious and comfortable with everything you could need. The cottage was very clean and well maintained. Although not in the Lake District it is a short drive to Keswick and beyond. It is a good base for touring the area. Definitely recommend for families.

  • "We enjoyed our stay very much: the accommodation was excellent, the owners were welcoming, and the surrounding area was peaceful and relaxing."

The property is conveniently placed for exploring the surrounding area and the Lake District, and even the Southern end of Scotland, being only a short drive from the main road. The owners offer a range of home-grown/home-made produce at reasonable prices, which we can thoroughly recommend: we purchased some home-made jams and bread. We are hoping to return at some point in the future.

  • "When we arrive Jeanne was there to meet us and showed us around the cottage , the cottage is beautiful and beautifully decorated, we loveed it at first sight, everything you needed, glasses, plates, pots, cutlery, washing machine, with washing tables, dishwasher with tables, heating, plus wood fire, my son was so excited to use a wood fire for the first time."

Jeanne also on request give safety equipment for children, eg, fire guards and stairs guards also travel cot. Bedrooms were all lovely, and the bed were very comfortable, the shower wonderful, we always had hot water all the time. We didn't get to go on the farm because it was always raining, but we sew the animals from the windows. There were also a friendly dog that always comes around looking through the window, my grandson loved seeing him. The only very small things was that I was looking forward to getting freshly made bread, but received a box biscuits from the shop, but that was a minor thing. All that is left to say is that we had a wonderful experience and we would all go back again. A big thank you Jeanne and family. Keep up the good work.

The cottage was immaculate, very clean & well equipped. The bedrooms had plenty of storage space & the beds very comfortable. The living room was spacious but also had a cosy feel & we enjoyed using the log burner even though it wasn't that cold during our stay. It was interesting staying on a working farm & we were very impressed with the owners commitment to conservation. A good base to visit places of interest in the area, a beautiful part of our country.

The cottage was spotlessly clean which is very reassuring during these unprecedented Covid times. The owners are friendly and welcoming as are their adorable and well behaved farm dogs. The Grainstore is set on a working farm but it was very peaceful and quiet with a real feeling of being in the countryside. Full amenities, however are just a short 5 mins away in Wigton. We enjoyed a visit to the Lakes Distillery to purchase local gins, the lovely town of Keswick and the major town of Carlisle, all within 20-30 mins scenic drive from the cottage. Highly recommended

The owners bent over backwards to make our stay comfortable. The kitchen had more pans and cooking essentials than my own! The owners were also really friendly, and let us help to feed the cows. Would definitely recommend and would stay again.

The owners are extremely welcoming people, we were met on our first day with a basket of freshly baked scones, home made jam and fresh eggs which were all very yummy. The place itself is scrupulously clean and is furnished to a very high standard. The kitchen exceeded our expectations as when we opened the cupboards, there were oil, condiments, all sort of sauces, foil, cling film, you name it and it was there. The cleaning products were there, we took our own , but did not use them, there was washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, washing tablets , conditioner, too long to go on. Joanne thought of everything to make her guests feel very welcome indeed. Well done Joanne and Martin, thank you so much for making our stay such a welcoming one. Chantal and Roy French and also on behalf of our friends who shared with us, who I'm sure will totally agree Christiane and Gwyn Williams

The Old Grainstore completely surpassed expectations. It is a gorgeous little cottage, that has been beautifully converted and well maintained. Everything we could possibly need had been provided. We received a lovely welcome basket filled with homemade scones, banana bread, and local jam. Joanne had also left a selection of toys for my little girl to play with during our stay which she absolutely adored, and was so thoughtful. All the rooms were well appointed, comfy beds and sofas, and beautifully decorated. We loved the outside space, a little courtyard at the back where we had a barbecue one evening (also provided by our lovely hosts), and a lawned area next to a field with calves and sheep with ride on toys which my daughter also loved. We had the opportunity to feed the calves in the evenings, and we were also taken on a nature walk around the farm one evening where we saw a buzzard, heron and two hares (amongst other wildlife).
