Had a wonderful time at Stockwell Hall Cottage, well provisioned and in a nice position

This is a beautiful cottage we had a brilliant time and the owners are lovely.

The garden to the property is beautiful and spent our time eating outside on a evening and morning and sitting in the eggchair. The location is very good and loved sitting upstairs on a evening with the doors open and seeing the countryside it did help that we have glorious weather as well. Cant recommend this property enough will definately go back.

The cottage was beautiful and had everything we needed.

The beds were very comfortable and the garden area was wonderful. We enjoyed feeding the pony and watching the hens. The lounge area was a great space. We really all enjoyed our stay immensely.

Stockwell Hall Cottage is a lovely place to spend some time.

If it’s a quiet and restful place you are after then this has to be on your list. It’s a nicely furnished property with a charming, slightly quirky, layout. Everything there for a comfortable stay. The owners Stephen & Heather are very friendly. Well recommended.

We booked this place for three families with kids and the stay did NOT disappoint.

Both Heather and Stephen were super welcoming and kept the place in a great condition. The place was very well equipped with all we needed from as little as soap to as essential as towels and kitchen ware. The back garden was like heaven and the photos on this website didn’t do it justice. It was very beautiful and had such great views. We absolutely loved it!

We spent two wonderful days at Stockwell Hall Cottage as a group of six.

From the moment we arrived, we received a warm welcome from the hosts. The cottage is very well equipped and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The décor is even better than the pictures, with really comfortable beds, and good-quality towels and bed linen provided. There was plenty of space for three couples, which made it feel relaxed and cosy rather than cramped. We would happily recommend it to anyone visiting the Lake District.

It's a beautiful house, very clean and well equipped. Our children enjoyed seeing the chickens every morning and April the pony. A quiet location with the Cumbria Way just a few hundred yards away. The owners were not at all intrusive, friendly and on hand if needed. Certainly one on our list to book again

There was a lovely welcome pack on arrival. The cottage was comfortable and spacious, and the garden was wonderful. Plenty of bird watching, playing with April the pony and the chickens. The cottage had everything we needed and more. Stephen and Heather were lovely, welcoming hosts, without being intrusive. The cottage is ideally situated for visits to. Caldbeck, the Solway Coast, Carlisle and the Lake District

A beautiful kept cottage in spectacular surroundings.

Made to feel very welcome by the hosts. Everything you could want is there. We even had chickens a cat and a pony, which was an added attraction. Would definitely recommend this cottage to rent. Had an amazing time, easy to reach the lakes.

The cottage is spacious, characterful, super comfortable and homely - it has everything you’ll need, and more, for your stay. The garden and outdoor space is equally as good, my son loved feeding April the pony, watching the free range hens, wild birds and the daily visit from a woodpecker. The nearby villages are very picturesque and have a good selection of amenities for their size. Heather and Stephen are ideal hosts - we hope to visit again soon.

So peaceful and comfortable. Friendly hosts and was lovely to have nature and animals on our doorstep.

The house is well-equipped and very comfortable in a Great location.

We really enjoyed the gorgeous garden. We spent a lot of time in the Garden that was very large and perfect for our family boules games. April the Shetland Pony visited us every morning with a grunt. Spent a few days out at Ullswater on the steamers, Aira Force Waterfalls and Hutton in the Forest. Had a fantastic meal at the Oddfellow's Arms in Caldbeck (need to book). Thanks to Stephen and Heather who were always available to assist with any information we required.

The cottage is in the perfect location for a quiet getaway, you can sit in the garden and hear only the sounds of nature.

There is everything you could need, the hosts are delightful and were easily contacted to arrange key collection. We were enjoying our stay so much we booked to return in a few weeks.

The cottage is on the owners' smallholding and benefits from this.

The small animals and gardens are wonderful for birds, quiet relaxation & young children. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped. The bedroom/bathroom configuration works well for sharing with grandparents or older siblings / friends (as we did). The rural location in the north of Cumbria suited us very well as we wanted easy access to Carlisle & the coast, away from holiday crowds. The owners Hazel & Stephen were friendly and helpful but not at all intrusive. We really enjoyed our stay and felt very relaxed.

Fantastic stay in the cottage for a week.

Amazingly quiet and peaceful in the middle of the countryside. Cottage was warm and inviting and well equipped with everything we wanted. Local pub was excellent for a couple of meals, but the kitchen at the cottage was more than adequate for what we wanted. We couldn’t find any fault at all with our stay. One of the major highlights was April the pony in the paddock just next door. We enjoyed feeding her carrots on a daily basis. A fantastic stay and we couldn’t recommend it highly enough.

Cottage is well appointed, clean and well maintained. Everything we needed for the stay plus some extra goodies which were a lovely touch. Kids loved having April around (the pony) and fed her a lot of carrots whilst we were there. Garden was great and being in the country was really quiet but good access just off main road. Kitchen had everything we needed. Would definitely stay again.

We had a wonderful stay at Stockwell.

The accommodation was excellent, very spacious with beautiful features such as the exposed wood beams and roll top bath and had lovely views across the countryside. The owners Heather and Stephen (and April the pony) were very friendly and welcoming and the welcome basket of treats was generous and very much appreciated. The location is very peaceful, but only about 35 minutes from Keswick, and closer still to Ullswater, there’s plenty to see and do in the area. There’s a couple of nice pubs serving good food only a five minutes drive away. Overall would highly recommend Stockwell as a place to stay when visiting Cumbria.

Beautiful cottage.

Very well equipped even for cooking over Christmas! Lovely owners who were on hand if required but not intrusive in any way. Very clean with all comforts of home and decked out nicely for Christmas with a festive welcome pack. Highly recommended.

Third time at the cottage absolutely fantastic again every thing about it is brilliant and really comfortable we would go again.

Paul and myself would like to thank Steve and Heather thank you so much for making our stay very special, the cottage was beautiful all the rooms were large and the decor fantastic the bedrooms were better than any hotel we have stayed in the bedding was crisp white, beds very x comfortable , tiggy the cat came most mornings to visit we went out every day, but were pleased to get back to the cosy cottage.

The building was beautifully and sympathetically done, with very comfy beds providing a good night's sleep all round. The owners were lovely and very friendly,they came to make sure everything was ok then left us to own devices. Best welcome pack we've had. Fabulous location for exploring Cumbria and the lakes. The views from the cottage were lovely. We would certainly recommend and stay again if in the area.

A very well equipped, comfortable cottage that was an ideal place to spend a few days with our son.

Such a beautiful Property.

Absolutely 5 star!! So relaxing and superbly decorated, with owners so welcoming and genuine. Only 30 minutes to Aira Force or Keswick. Situated in the lovely countryside with outside eating space and large garden. So pleasurable to watch the birds whilst seated in the dining/kitchen room. We will be rebooking to stay in this ‘piece of heaven’ again.

We had a great stay at Stockwell hall cottage, the owners were very nice and said hello when we arrived but we were left alone to enjoy our holiday which we really appreciated.

Our children loved walking around the garden and especially enjoyed getting to know the lovely ponies. Watching the birds whilst eating breakfast was lovely. The cottage is very comfortable and well presented with all comforts one would wish for :) Wi-Fi signal is poor as expected In the countryside and the pub mentioned on the listing is now closed down. A very lovely restful week spent at Stockwell hall cottage :)

The cottage has to be one of the best we have had the pleasure of staying at. Everything you could possibly need and more. The cottage is lovely and warm everything is high standard and the welcome basket was a lovely surprise for us to arrive too. Stephen & heather were fantastic hosts we would highly recommend their property. We had a toddler with us he loved seeing the animals and running around the garden all was very safe. Thank you for a lovely stay. We will definitely be returning.

The property literally had everything you would expect to find in your own home. It was our first visit to Cumbria and certainly won't be the last. The location is wonderful, the hosts are extremely helpfully but not intrusive. We spent days out and days in and can't wait to come back.

Amazing quiet and peaceful cottage!

Spotless with all the essentials provided on our arrival! Excellent hosts who were on hand if we needed anything. Horses, hens, sheep and a cat to keep the kids occupied whilst we enjoyed the sun in the garden! 10/10 and would definitely be coming back soon!

We had the most wonderful stay at Stockwell Hall Cottage.

We were greeted with a beautiful welcome hamper - so thoughtful. The fresh eggs and free range milk...delicious. The garden and views are spectacular. We all had the most relaxing comfortable stay. We took small children with us who had the most fun exploring the garden and feeding the ponies. We couldn't have asked for a better stay. Sitting on the patio with a glass of wine in the sunshine watching the children play with rolling countryside views - perfect! The cottage is decorated so beautifully with amazing special touches. We will absolutely be visiting again. Thank you!

Came to enjoy long walks and ended up completely chillaxing, just what the doctor ordered. Everything within an easy drive, amenities to lakes. Highly recommend a stay here.

What an absolutely beautiful cottage, inside and out!

The cottage was cosy but spacious, beautiful furnishings and the owners really had thought of everything. The surrounding views were stunning. So peaceful and tranquil. Our children loved feeding the Shetland ponies and seeing the chickens and sheep! A truly relaxing break for all our family.

The cottage was spotless and delightful and the situation was perfect for a peaceful country holiday with the Lake District within easy reach.

Booking with easy, clear and transparent especially in the climate (lockdowns) when it was booked.

The high score goes to Heather and Stephen (owners) who have a beautiful property which was so comfortable and relaxing. We had everything we needed and the cottage was finished to a very high standard. The beds were so cosy and we all slept really well. The surrounding countryside is stunning and there was plenty to do/visit around us. We would happily visit again.

It was lovely to stay on a working farm, albeit quite a quiet and uninvasive one.

Owners were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Peaceful location with lovely riverside strolls and local village interest with its many historical mills and craft shops. Cottage was very spacious and cosy.

Just what we needed to have a relaxing and enjoyable break. We've stayed in quite a few cottages, and several from Sykes too, but this one is the best we have stayed in.

Heather and Stephens property is beautiful, the little extras they leave you are amazing and very kind.

The property also has things you don’t think of taking, things you have at home but don’t think you would need on holiday. They are a very welcoming couple and we will definitely visit again x

What a fantastic place.

The pictures weren't as good as the reality and we had a fantastic time. Such a relaxed environment in beautiful surroundings and hopefully we'll be back in the not too distant future.

Lovely setting, very homely well equipped cottage.

Hosts decorated it with a beautiful Christmas tree, lights, decorations and a homemade wreath on the front door making it very 'Christmassy'. M&S Bucks Fizz and chocolate Christmas shortbread awaiting us plus a stocked fridge with essentials include home laid eggs from the hens. Our 16 mth grandson loved the Shetland Ponies, hens, sheep and the farmyard cat who looked liked Bagpuss. We had a wonderful Christmas staying here and it felt like home.. We visited Carlisle, Penrith (excellent choice of supermarkets) pretty shopping centre with many independent retailers, Ullswater and Priests Mill.

Stephen and Heather have really gone out of their way to make this the perfect place to enjoy the local area.

So many welcome touches!!! So many personal family items in the cottage - which we were free to use and enjoy. A boiler problem was dealt with speedily and effectively... The hens visited the bird feeder outside the kitchen window at breakfast time each morning...charismatic family members - who loved to peer into the room to check up on what we were up to... We had a really fantastic few days at Stockwell Hall Cottage...Thank you!

The accommodation and the owners were fine and nice.

BUT... As a family of 4 adults and one 7 year old we were all expecting usable WiFi as advertised on your site. Myself and my son for our individual work and the others for their phones, tablets and computers. Due to the weakness of the signal we had to use our phones and set up hot spots to enable some (albeit erratic) wifi connection.

A great welcome from Stephen and Heather, the arrival was magical: the children loved the ponies, we all enjoyed the millionaire cookies waiting for us.

We also loved the other little touches, like the bird feeder outside the kitchen door- great to watch over breakfast. The cottage was beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean- I'd recommend it to anyone. One point- could the wifi be sorted? We'd all love to leave it behind us on holiday, but unfortunately that's not possible, so a good connection would really make a difference. Other than that, the whole experience was absolutely perfect, and the drive into the Lakes to explore every day never failed to get the jaws dropping. Many thanks!

The accomodation was just about the best we have ever had at other places in this country.

The surrounding area was quiet and peaceful. The owners were kind and helpful.

A beautiful spot.

Everything you could wish for ! When we arrived there was the normal (much appreciated) tea , coffee & sugar, but there was also milk, butter & bacon in the fridge. Bread in the bread bin and fresh eggs. When we went upstairs to the lounge there was a bottle of wine & chocolate shortbread cakes waiting for us too ! When we met the owners they were very friendly and helpful. Definitely highly recommended !!

This property is in an excellent position for site seeing in Cumbria and the Lake District.

The welcome we received on arrival was brilliant, we were left provisions, butter, eggs bacon and milk, upstairs in the lounge we had wine and snacks. Cannot praise the owners enough, a most enjoyable stay.

Being in the peaceful countryside was great, the fact that the bird feeder was filled every day meant that we could relax and watch the birds which we love to.

When the woodpeckers came down we couldn’t believe it. The cottage was like a home from home,everything you needed was there and a lovely welcome gift from the owners which was really welcome. Great holiday, despite the weather.

The cottage and surroundings where beautiful, everything to a very high standard. Absolutely worth the 5* rating. We received a lovely warm welcome and there was lots of very thoughtful touches which made our stay very comfortable.

In a great location. Plenty of room for grandkids to run around the garden was fantastic. The animals were a bonus. Ponies. Chickens and a cat. The owner made us feel welcome. We had food in fridge for a breakfast next morning. Would recommend this place to my family and friends. Can't wait to go back.

The owners gave us a very warm welcome and left some treats to help us settle in. The cottage is in a good location for touring the lakes and the lower end of Scotland. Would definitely recommend.

Stockwell Hall Cottage was an absolute dream - homely, comfortable and spectacularly well-equipped, it was also very beautiful and felt like living in the pages of Country Living magazine.

It's pristine, and everything is top quality, from the welcome pack with homemade cake and their own free-range eggs, the luxurious bed linen, and the Laura Ashley soap & hand lotion. This is proper rural idyll - we were more in the market for gentle strolls for an hour or two but the location would suit serious walkers too. The views from the upstairs living room were glorious during our sunny spring visit and we loved throwing the doors open wide to look out onto green hills, lambs in the fields and swallows in the air. I took my parents for a week away and they both have limited mobility, but they managed without any trouble. The stairs up to the living room and the upstairs bathroom with the step-in shower aren't steep, they're well lit and have a handrail. We spent most of our time around the large kitchen table or on the sunny patio in any case! Downstairs is step-free between the kitchen-diner, the bedroom and second bathroom, and there's a side patio entrance with one small step so the stone steps to enter the main door can be avoided. Plus you can drive right up to the front door, so it's pretty accessible. The hosts were lovely too - friendly, welcoming and helpful, they were on hand for any questions but also respectful of our space. We were lucky with the weather, but had it rained all week, we'd have been perfectly contented to snuggle up with a good book, or just watch the birds from the window. Couldn't recommend it more highly.
