The property

Bassenthwaite 4 miles.

Fellfoot Cottage is a cosy cottage set in Embleton near Bassenthwaite, Cumbria.

Well suited to two couples, friends or a small family, this characterful retreat offers a welcoming base for exploring some of the region’s most well-known landscapes and villages within the Lake District National Park and boasts off-road parking, a nearby pub and a garden.

The entrance leads you into the heart of the cottage, where daily routines quickly feel established.

The kitchen is arranged for relaxed holiday cooking, finished with wooden countertops that add warmth and character as you prepare breakfast or an evening meal using local ingredients.

From here, the dining room draws you in with natural light spilling through from the garden, creating an inviting space to linger over meals and conversation.

The stairs rise from the dining area, gently guiding you up through the cottage.

Next door, the sitting room offers a place to slow down at the end of the day, with a leather sofa and an armchair to sink into, a mounted TV for catching up on favourite programmes, and an electric fire that adds a gentle glow during quieter evenings indoors.

Upstairs, the cottage opens into two bright and neatly presented double bedrooms.

One looks out across the garden towards sweeping views of the surrounding hills, offering a memorable start to the day as the light shifts across the landscape.

The second bedroom enjoys leafy outlooks towards nearby trees, bringing a sense of being wrapped in nature.

The ground-floor bathroom features a bath with a shower over, ideal for unwinding after time spent exploring the fells.

Outside, the rear garden with patio and furniture provides a pleasant place to sit with a morning coffee or enjoy a pause in the afternoon, with the sounds of the countryside close at hand.

A welcoming pub can be reached on foot, while a village shop sits within easy driving distance for everyday essentials.

From Fellfoot Cottage, the wider Lake District is ready to explore.

Keswick invites lakeside walks along Derwentwater, where still waters mirror the surrounding fells, boat trips glide quietly across the lake, and paths lead directly into the hills beyond.

Castlerigg Stone Circle stands in a dramatic natural setting, where ancient stones rise from the grass, wide views stretch across the valleys, and the atmosphere shifts with the changing weather.

Whinlatter Forest Park offers a contrasting landscape of woodland trails, elevated viewpoints looking out across the mountains, and opportunities to spot wildlife among the trees.

Cockermouth provides a varied day out, with Wordsworth House offering insight into the poet’s early life, riverside walks tracing the meeting of two rivers, and independent shops and cafés inviting slow afternoons.

Bassenthwaite Lake lies nearby, with open shoreline walks, broad views across the water, and moments of stillness at the edge of the lake, while Dodd Wood draws walkers into shaded paths that rise towards viewpoints overlooking the surrounding countryside.

Make Fellfoot Cottage your base for exploring the Lake District National Park.

BASSENTHWAITE

Keswick 8 miles; Cockermouth 9 miles.

An attractive village in the Northern Lakes, Bassenthwaite lies just a short distance to the north east of Bassenthwaite Lake, and retains its traditional rural feel, with a stream flowing gently on the outskirts, whitewashed Lakeland cottages, a pleasant vllage green and a real ale inn full of character! Bassenthwaite Lake itself, while boasting gentler scenery than others in the region, is still one of the most picturesque places in England. Places of interest nearby include Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Lake with small open-air theatre (reputedly frequented by poets such as Tennyson and Wordsworth), Lake District Wildlife Park, and Dodd Wood. Most of the attractions of the Lake District are within easy reach and the quieter Northern Fells are almost on the doorstep. The nearby towns of Cockermouth and Keswick, both have weekly markets and offer a good range of amenities. The scenery of the Yorkshire Dales is within touring distance, as is the city of Carlisle and Hadrians Wall country.
