  • "Easthwaite Cottage is a truly special place to spend time and made us very happy."

Incredible views, Herdwick sheep in the fields, cuckoos calling in the woods, swallows wheeling around the farm buildings, strolls and hikes from the doorstep, swimming in the lake if it's warm enough, 2 pubs and a farm shop / café in easy walking distance. Not to mention occasional ear-splitting fly pasts from fighter jets and the affectionate farm cat (mysteriously nicknamed Colin by a visitor earlier in the spring). Cosy inside when chilly out, cool(er) inside when it's hot out. Comfy beds and sofas. Enough equipment in the kitchen to be able to self-cater comfortably and the welcome pack was a nice surprise from the kind and friendly owners. While a dishwasher and washing machine would be handy, the view from the kitchen and utility room windows made it well worth the extra time spent at the sink! And while the access track is quite long and bumpy it is perfectly accessible and one you arrive at the cottage you won't want to go anywhere anyway. Finally, if you want to get under the skin of life on the farm in times past, we accidentally discovered it features in A Wasdale Lad by Rob Steele. Thank you for having us!

  • "The photos of the cottage do not do it justice, it is more spacious than it looks, and the views are spectacular."

On a clear night the stars through the valley are magical. The only sounds are nature and the occasional supersonic military jet that practice around the peaks, it can be a bit of a surprise but the "Wow!" is worth it. Everything was perfect for our stay. Cottage cosy, well equipped and relaxing. Host and animals (working sheep farm) are very friendly. The skittish cat that likes to sit on the windowsill is not owned by the farm but spends all of its time there. We called him/her "Colin" for no reason at all. The only downside of Easthwaite Cottage to be aware of is the very bumpy, rubbley narrow track leading up to the farm. Its about a mile long and can make the journey in and out of the farm interesting! Going very slowly our Yaris just about survived, a higher off the ground vehicle should manage better. Everything else was superb, taking the very short walk through the campfield down to the edge of Wastwater is lovely. Should we be back in the Lake District again, this cottage will be the first to check for availability.

The location is absolutely stunning with breath taking views and sheep greeting us every morning. the cottage is very well equipped with everything we needed, making our stay comfortable and relaxing from the moment we arrived. We would also like to thank the owner for being so friendly and welcoming. A special mention goes to the lovely cat who quickly become part of our holiday experience. We have completely come back in the future. We will be recommending this cottage to all our friends. Thank you for a wonderful stay. Best regards

  • "Great location, fantastic walking and weather was good."

Cosy Cottage with short walk to pub. What more can you want! Maybe a dishwasher!

  • "Absolutely amazing property!"

Breathtaking location, perfect for people looking to explore the lakes. Only a 15 minute drive to Wasdale head, the main start of the Scarfell Pike hike, a 5 minute walk to Wast Water, and absolutely stunning hikes in the surrounding hills, including at least one wainwright, walkable from the door step. The property itself was spacious, and had a drying room which was brilliant after a day hiking in the rain, along with WiFi, Netflix on the TV and a bath. Additionally being situated on a farm, having lambs and sheep in the garden was pretty magical. The hosts were also lovely, but also allowed us to enjoy the stay in privacy, and the Easter eggs were such an appreciated touch! Whilst overall it was an exceptional stay, and brilliant value for money. My partner struggled with sleep on the last night due to the bedding and duvet set feeling poor quality, which was a bit of a dampener on our last day. Additionally, the lack of a washing/ drying machine could make a longer stay more difficult, however in all fairness the drying room was ace. Overall I would definitely recommend this property to anyone visiting the lakes.
