Oak Cottage

We stay regularly at Oak cottage.

It has everything we need whilst visiting my parents nearby in Shaw. Love the location near the lake and the Pennines. Close to shops in Milnrow. Lovely and quiet.

helaas geen mooi uitzicht of wasmachine inbegrepen. was wel op het terrein aanwezig tegen extra betaling. We hadden wat problemen met de boiler maar elk keer kwamen ze die netjes repareren. laagdrempelig is de eigenaar te bereiken. prettige communicatie. huisje is goed te bereiken. niet ver weg van de hoofdwegen fijne uitvalsbasis.

This a generously proportioned property and beautifully clean and warm.

Well set up for actual cooking, and good for those with mobility issues but who can do stairs. Wide doorways, loos on both floors, a wet room, ensuites which are proper bathrooms not wet cupboards! The visiting cat was an unexpected and welcome bonus. Our satnav only took us to the end of the lane and the track down to the farm is very uneven and we struggled to find it in the dark even when we'd already negotiated it in daylight. There are lovely views but you can't see them from the house. It's very convenient for visiting the area being so close to the M62, but very quiet and tucked away once you arrive. Nigel was very friendly and helpful when we discovered problems and resolved them quickly, but maybe a checklist for change over would avoid the need. All in all I would recommend.

This cottage is in a great location, we used it as a base to explore the area and attend the Whit Friday marches.

We enjoyed the walk from the farm to Hollingsworth Lake through the beautiful countryside. Everything is spotlessly clean, and feels like you’re at home. The owners were very friendly and helpful, making sure we had everything we needed for our 7 month old, but we would recommend bringing a big blanket if you are staying with a baby as the stone floors downstairs were a bit hard for playtime.

We loved our stay in Oak Cottage.

The location is lovely! A walk around the lake is 3miles, a great walk before breakfast! The property is a good size for four adults with ample car parking place for two cars. If we were to mention anything that we didn’t like, it would be the double bed in the ensuite with the bath. The mattress was like a hammock. It was so uncomfortable we didn’t get one good night’s sleep. You could literally feel the damage to the springs underneath you.

Accommodation is excellent and finished to a very high standard.

The hosts introduced themselves upon arrival. Very friendly and very helpful without being intrusive. Great hosts. I can't fault the property at all but, (always a but) being a business traveller I would have like a larger TV in the lounge. This is not a criticism as had this been a family trip I'm sure the TV wouldn't have been turned on. Hopefully I'll get a chance to stay again. Highly recommended.

The property in general amazing. Nigel was so welcoming. Upon arrival the Cottage was spotless. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Looking forward to a return visit in the future. Couldn’t ask for a nicer “home away from home”. Thank you so very much.

Beautiful cottage with everything provided you need.

Set in lovely countryside. Comfortable beds. Having 2 ensuites a bonus and the downstairs bathroom was really good. Perfect stay, highly recommended.

Oak cottage is extremely well-furnished - comfy beds and chairs, sufficient kitchen equipment.

Everything was clean and well-maintained. We felt very welcomed, and the area is a lovely base for a holiday.

Lovely quiet location, perfect generous sized cottage with great facilities.

The property is beautiful, and matches the description.

Most people will be extremely comfortable there. However, the beds and lounge seating were too soft for us. Perhaps firmness or not of beds and sofas etc should be detailed in the description as for many people softness does not equal comfort. Also, I think small bath towels seem a bit mean in accommodation that is not ‘budget’.

The house was very beautiful. Location on the farm was very quiet and the owners were very friendly.

Very friendly welcome and a tour of the properties. This house is beautiful with everything we needed , thermostats in each room and a huge bath in one en suite. Lane to get there needs attention but that won't stop us booking again. Thank you to the hosts for making our stay so lovely

Cottage had everything needed, owners onsite helpful but never felt like was watched or noticed were around unless needed.

Very warm cottage, relaxed location lovely views enjoyed our stay and felt relaxed when left. Has everything you could need clean tidy and spacious. Tram to Manchester nearby would certainly recommend if traveling into the city, ideal location for country views and walks but has all local amenities along with the views so not isolated would highly recommend

A lovely place - quiet, spectacular views, dark at night so we could see the stars.

The cottage was comfortable, very well equipped, light and airy, warm too. The drive down to the farm certainly deters joy riders - there’s no way anyone could race down there. Hollingworth Lake is virtually on the doorstep, wonderful for watersports, and there’s also horse riding nearby. Good walking routes start on the doorstep and there’s plenty of retail therapy and culture to be had in Rochdale. We got there using the Metrolink from the village of Milnrow - quick, easy and unbelievably cheap! All in all, this is a gem of a place and superb value for money.

The views from Oak Cottage are enough to bring a tear to the eye.

After the pandemic I am sure most people will appreciate the beauty of the moorland and woodland surrounding the property. For me and my family our short stay was full of laughter and we left full of memories and a hope that we will be able to return soon.
