  • "Very lovely, quirky little cottage that suited our needs perfectly."

We liked everything about it and may even be back there next year. All the things we needed in the cottage were there along with some nice extras as well. A couple of thoughts - some more information might have been useful - we didn’t find the key to open the windows or the charging cable for the bathroom mirror light until Thursday? We couldn’t sort the heating; possibly it can’t be altered, adjusted?? it was frosty one morning yet still didn’t appear to be on - presumably it’s on a timer, &/or temperature control but knowing that would have made it all clear. It was all clean and ready for us arriving - the only thing we noticed was a ‘cat pee’ sort of smell from the kitchen area and although we tried, air fresheners, door open when possible we couldn’t get rid of it. Overall great, thanks

  • "Strange smell on entering cottage a mixture of damp and cat pee."

All the carpet off cuts on floors are a trip hazard as is the carpet runner on the flagged floor in kitchen. Sofa too low down and uncomfortable. Claustrophobic toilet a very small enclosed space. Restricted height ceiling in parts upstairs. Outside space postage stamp size with too many steps leading up to it. Two key uncomfortable patio chairs very low down impossible to use. The double doors leading to patio only one opens leaving on small space to get through. The double bed is too low down and steps up to the bedroom. Totally disabled and elderly unfriendly property. Needs a warning for future guests.

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. I am sorry to hear you did not have the best stay. We have tried hard to show what the property is like on the photos on the listing and the description. We have taken your feedback on board regarding the carpet and have removed these. Regarding the smell you describe, i am unsure where this would have come from as the property is pet free and has been for many years. This property is over 200 years old and does have some quirks that come with the age, again we have tried our best with Sykes to show and describe all of these. I can only apologies you did not have the same experience as our other guests. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cosy cottage for 2."

Very well equipped with an excellent standard of furnishings and decoration. Comfortable bedroom with a lush carpet. Gorgeous view from the rear patio area. It was a cold week for the time of year but it was mostly dry, and good for walking. We enjoyed our stay. Thank you. We hope to return.

Good locaton for village shops, pubs and walking from the cottage, to various scenic countryside. Remember your slippers, to make it home from home.

  • "What a lovely week despite the rain!"

The cottage was comfortable and very warm once we read the heating booklet and adjusted the bedroom radiator. Such a lovely large bedroom with a very comfortable king sized bed. We had to remember to watch our heads in the toilet and the window end of the bathroom as the ceiling was quite low. We got to sit out on our last day and enjoy the splendid views from the small patio area. Loved watching the lambs! The kitchen was well equipped with all new appliances. The sofa was comfortable and the t.v was new. Thank you for the milk, marmalade and cream eggs!

  • "This is a really beautiful and surprisingly spacious cottage, well-decorated, well-furnished and cosy."

It's really well situated to walk into town and there's parking available outside, although not guaranteed. The two rooms at the rear of the property (the kitchen and bathroom) have rather low ceilings.

About the location

HAWES

Leyburn 16 miles.

Hawes is a popular market town in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire and is regarded as one of the honeypot tourist attractions of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Standing between Buttertubs and Fleet Moss, the town is an excellent centre for walking and touring Wensleydale and the adjoining dales of Swaledale, Cotterdale, Dentdale, Garsdale, Wharfedale and Chapel-le-Dale. Take a walk around the Hawes Town Trail, Millennium Walk, Pennine Way or along the River Ure, which is nearby. In 1998 Hawes was awarded the English Tourist Board Silver Award for the "Best Day Trip Out". Modern traffic has long replaced coaches and horse drawn wagons along its narrow streets, but market day (Tuesdays) in Hawes is as busy as ever, with a farmers’ auction attracting sheep farmers from all over the north of England. Traditional shops, cafés and inns now cater for a variety of Dales visitors as well as the local community. The award-winning Wensleydale Creamery, made famous by the animated Wallace and Grommit films, is now open to visitors so that they can see the famous cheese being made and sample the end product in a welcoming café. In the old station yard you will find the busy National Park Centre and Dales Countryside Museum. The Museum is home to the magnificent collection of Dales artefacts by the two great Dales historians and writers, Marie Hartley and Joan Ingilby.
