  • "Although mentioned in the description for the property, I would not advise using this cottage if you are over 5' 10"."

The toilet is very difficult to use due to the roof and beam directly above it. The toilet seat was loose as are some of the floor tiles in the bathroom. That said if you are not over 5' 10, tall this is a pleasant cottage with great access to local facilities and beyond.

  • "The cottage is very well situated in a lovely village with lots of places to eat and drink."

It is also a perfect base for travelling. We went to Ingleton Waterfalls Trail and Ingleborough Cave both about 15mins drive away. The cottage is small with low ceilings which suited us just fine as we are both small in height. We would definitely recommend to friends and family and would probably stay there again.

  • "Lovely tiny cottage everything you need."

You must be prepared for the low ceilings but when you are they just add to the character. Would definitely stay again. Only one very small criticism I couldn’t work the induction hob despite having one at home and i couldn’t get an enquiry out to the mobile number quoted to ask for help

  • "The cottage is nicely furnished."

The bathroom is modern and nice. The only issue is the toilet seat needs replacing as it is too small and moves about when you sit on it. You also have to be aware of the low beams if you’re tall like my partner. There was one issue which spoiled our break. The cottage is on the main road and they were resurfacing the road at night for several nights. We had about a dozen trucks etc. working until 12am on Monday and past 1am Tuesday right outside our window , so not much sleep,

Hi, thanks for taking the time to provide feedback. I'm sorry about the toilet seat I will look to get that replaced as soon as possible. As for the roadworks I can only apologise as unfortunately it is out of my control. I hope you still enjoyed the rest of your stay. Thanks James Property Owner

Spotlessly clean when I arrived. Lovely welcome pack which was a nice surprise. Everything I needed for a few days getaway. Would recommend and stay there again

  • "We had a short break at this delightful cottage."

So quaint and cozy. Comfy sofa, really comfy bed and lovely shower room. Linen and towels top quality. The little touches left for our stay were great and Basil our little dog loved his ball and the use of his own towel. Great pubs very close by as are all the local shops. Will definitely come again.

Thank you for your lovely feedback, we look forward to hosting you again! Property Owner

  • "A great cottage with everything we needed, including a welcome pack for us and our dog!"

The interior was spotless and stylish, with low beams and steep stairs (as per the description). Fantastic location, with amenities on the doorstop and surrounded by beautiful countryside. It was a perfect base for exploring the area.

  • "So very comfortable and relaxing."

Very well equipped and the outdoor space is perfect, especially at this time of year. We had such a great time we will hopefully be returning to No. 8. Read the description of the property, especially the low beams!! Village is lovely and lively with everything available locally , but yet quiet and peaceful in the evening/ early morning. The local auction mart was a hive of activity during our stay and added to the overall feel of High Bentham. Very friendly village and the railway station is a boon to travel out of the local area with no hassle. Great local walks and not far to the three peaks for the more adventurous . Would highly recommend.

Thanks you very much for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again! Property Owner

  • "This cottage is in an excellent location in a nice, small town with great facilities."

The cottage itself is very stylish and clean and well equipped. But upstairs there is very limited storage, with only 2 bedside tables so you have to leave your clothes in your case or on the floor. Headroom is a problem on the stairs and in both bedroom and shower room.

Thanks you for your feedback. I have now added a small chest of drawers upstairs to help with storage. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is small but lovely, very clean with an excellent shower, comfy bed and a secure back courtyard perfect for our dog."

We cooked in every night and everything we needed was provided for. Having read previous reviews we noticed that the owner had taken onboard all reasonable suggestions and put these in place. The welcome pack for both us and our dog was a lovely touch. Bentham is a lovely place with all local amenities needed and a perfect base for exploring the beautiful area. The cottage is not suitable for anyone with mobility problems as the stairs are very steep, but for us it was perfect and we wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

  • "I thought that the property itself was really nice but I wasn't thinking and when I booked it I didn't consider myself and my disability so climbing the stairs was very difficult that being said I still thought it was a really nice cottage and would recommend it to any of my friends that aren't disabled but I am recently been diagnosed as disabled and am not use to booking up holidays with that in mind so it might be better if it was written down on the page that this property isn't good if you have a disability etc."

Also there could be a mirror above the bathroom sink as because when you are shaving you have to keep moving to were the mirror has been situated which is away from the sink or just buy a small shaving mirror that comes of the wall and u can position it so it can be pulled out from the wall and over the sink.

Thanks for taking the time to review your stay. I'm sorry you had difficulty with the stairs, I agree they are steep and narrow. It is mentioned on the Sykes page but I will get this information moved to a more prominent position on the listing. Thanks also for the suggestion of a shaving mirror, that is something I will now add to the bathroom! Property Owner

It is small, but well set out with warning signs advising to mind your head. It is well equipped, and is very comfortable. It is close to a number of pubs and shops, and we had excellent walks. We would definitely stay again! I had a question for the owner before we went and he responded very quickly.

Wi-Fi not the best, kept stopping No outside light for nighttime visits for our dog Smoke detectors started beeping on our last night, not much sleep was had! Nice property, little treats of crisps, fudge, tea and coffee were a lovely touch Plenty of lovely walks nearby

  • "Great location within easy reach of shops, a couple of decent pubs and places to visit."

I'm 5ft 8 and as already mentioned you do have to watch your head on a few beams but that is part of the character of a nice little cottage! We took our dog with us and they had left two bowls, feeding mat, tennis ball and a towel which was a realy nice touch also a a small milk in the fridge and some local treats. Nice decor and newly fitted kitchen and bathroom. All in all a good stay.

  • "A lovely little cottage, obviously newly refurbished."

Comfy bed, well equipped kitchen for its size, parking by the door. Needed instructions for heating, underfloor heating and washing machine No first aid kit. No instruction as to when to put the bin out Bathroom was a bit challenging trying to stand up from the loo or use the sink and I’m only 5’5’ ( that’s the only reason I wouldn’t recommend and wouldn’t stay again)

Thanks for your feedback, I'm very sorry you had some issues. I am updating the guest book to include the missing information and to make some details clearer. Property Owner

BENTHAM, YORKSHIRE

Ingleton 3.5 miles; Kirkby Lonsdale 8.4 miles; Morecambe 16.8 miles

Positioned just west of the Yorkshire Dales, on the northern fringes of the Forest of Bowland, this lovely town is split into High Bentham and Low Bentham, with the babbling River Wenning running between the two. The town boasts an annual agricultural show, with handicraft, horticulture and livestock competitions, which dates back to the 19th century. In addition to this is the annual Carnival and funfair, entertaining a thriving community with workshops, music and many fundraising events. High Bentham has an array of public houses and eateries to choose from, and the railway station sits on the Leeds to Morecambe line. For walking enthusiasts, there are colour coded circular trails of different lengths and capabilities, right on the doorstep. The neighbouring village of Ingleton offers some wonderful caves and tumbling waterwalls, along with a year-round climbing wall and a good range of shops, pubs and places to eat. Enjoy a trip out to Morecambe Bay with your bucket and spade, where you can fly your kites, build sandcastles or simply take a stroll along the promenade. For more independent shops and restaurants, the town of Kirkby Lonsdale is only a short drive away, with access to Ruskin's View. Take the footpath from the churchyard at St. Mary's Church and follow the trail high about the River Lune, where you can marvel at a panorama of the Lune Valley and Underley Hall. A wonderful location for exploring National Parks, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the North West coastline.
