"Lovely little cottage, everything clean and in good repair and the owners have been very thoughtful about what to provide and how to optimise use of the limited space."
I would happily book it again. Location also very good for walking to pubs and the small supermarket. The only reason I didn't give a higher mark for facilities was the lack of a washing machine, as our walking clothes got very wet and muddy. But I understand that there might not be space for it.
Thanks for the feedback Jeremy, as you point out the cottage can have either a dishwasher or a washing machine, we felt most would benefit from a dishwasher but understand your comments with walking gear, again thanks hope to see you again, Julie and Brian

"Although it would be difficult to fit in, a washing machine would be useful to those staying for longer periods."
Thanks Martin, when renovating we considered the benefits of a washing machine versus a dishwasher, as you know we decided on the dishwasher. The reasons being we felt the majority of people on holiday would prefer that option, additionally one of the courtyard rules (that we share) is, that there are no washing lines within the courtyard to preserve the look and feel for everyone. As you know, we do offer the opportunity to change out the linen and towels for those staying more than a week. We hope you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back.

"Ramblers Rest is a great place in a great location!"
We realy enjoyed our time in Sedbergh.
It would be wonderfull if there are more than 4 dishes (plates, bowls, cutlery ...), there are no plates for serving food.
Anyway, it IS a great place to be, Martin
Thanks for the feedback Martin we have purchased another set of crockery and some serving bowls, and we are waiting for more cutlery. Glad you enjoyed Sedbergh, Julie and Brian

"Just a two night break this time, the second time this year."
It’s a real gem, both the cottage and the book town of Sedburgh. The cottage is quiet, private and comfortable, yet just seconds down Kings Yard, is the Main Street. We had a lovely meal at The Black Bull, book online. Thank you to owners Julie and Brian for being there if needed.
Don’t just wonder if you should go. Just book it !!

"Fantastic break in Sedbergh."
Didn't need to use the car at all. Rambler's Rest is set back behind the main street, so conveniently placed. Amazing walks and scenery. The accommodation was clean and comfortable with everything you need. The addition of the Sedbergh soap products was a real treat (I bought loads from the local shop to bring back). The only thing that I wish there had been was more cutlery and crockery so I didn't have to wash up as much! Highly recommended.
Thanks Kirsty, glad you enjoyed the location and Sedbergh, hope to see you again, Julie and Brian

"On Monday13 May we were informed by the owner that extensive paving works were to be carried out to the courtyard and front of the property which would restrict our access to the property."
We were informed that this disruptivewould be carried out by a brown envelope containing £70 delivered through the door. At 7.30 the following morning the work commenced with diggers taking up the length of the courtyard in front of the house. We had to keep the curtains closed all day for privacy. The works continued for the following two days and another envelope containing £70 was delivered to the house. We are astonished that you would let a property knowing that extensive disruption was going to take place. We consider the payments made were an insult for a completely ruined week.We eventually abandoned our stay and left early when the access to the front gate was barred and we had to access through the back car parks. We have used your company many times and are amazed that you would let this situation occur.
Thank you for your feedback, if I may I would like to respond. As personally explained when I visited you, the yard is run by a residents group, of which we are members. Unfortunately the local paving stone within the yard has been gradually deteriorating, leaving holes and causing a health and safety issue, specifically for one of the elderly residents that requires a frame to walk, the group decided earlier this year to replace the flags and commissioned a local builder to undertake the work. Due to the nature of the work, he needed dry weather to complete the task and informed the group on Monday, ‘that the weather looked good and he would attend on Wednesday and if needed Thursday’. The work took both days, while I agree there was some disruption for which I again apologise, the builder was asked; not to start until lights were on in the cottage, that any sawing of the paving was done remotely, and that the cement was mixed remotely so that there was no noise, and that access was maintained continuously from either the front or rear of the yard, which he did. All digging was done by hand and materials carried in again by hand. I came to see you personally and explained the situation and gave you a total refund for the two days where the builder undertook work, which you accepted. I accept that there was some disruption on the last two days of your stay which we tried to minimise, however, I am pleased that you chose to stay until your scheduled time of departure and hope you enjoyed Sedbergh. Thank you Julie and Brian

"Lovely stay here everything we needed for the weekend ."
. very well equipped kitchen and place was clean and comfy. Only thing I would say is the shared courtyard needs to state that dogs can’t use it for the toilet. It’s in the handbook on arrival but couldn’t see it when booking the property. Before we realised dogs weren’t allowed off lead toileting etc the dogs were out in the morning and a very rude man from the corner house came over to tell us it was absolutely outrageous that the dogs were off lead. Made us feel very unwelcome. We had two dogs one still a puppy so still wakes during the night.. having to take her round the streets at 4am so she could go to the toilet was not ideal and if we were dogs couldn’t go to the toilet in the courtyard we wouldn’t have booked. Only downside to the trip though but the man was very aggressive to my partner, incredibly rude and a bit of an exaggerator really hammering home how outrageous it was that the dogs were there. Literally wasn’t ruining anything either as it’s just cobbles so can’t understand his anger but never mind.
Good morning Miss Stewart, firstly apologies that your stay wasn’t perfect, and thank you for the feedback, which we always take seriously for continuous improvement. As such, I have spoken to Sykes this morning and had the website changed to reference the requirement to ‘have dogs on a lead at all times in the shared courtyard area’, as you suggested, apologies that this wasn’t clear initially. Hopefully this improves the accuracy of our listing.

I loved the stylish and thoughtful interior, it felt very special. I only wished we could have stayed longer and that it was colder so we could have lit the log burner! Conveniently situated in the centre of Sedbergh so walks, restaurants and lovely shops, were minutes away.
Thanks Michelle, we are so pleased to hear you enjoyed the stay, and hope that you come back soon to use the log burner
