  • "Fleshbeck Cottage was a most beautiful cottage and was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed to have a wonderful time."

It was close to Kirkby Lonsdale where there were many shops and tearooms which we enjoyed. It was also close to both the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. We would highly recommend this cottage and would definitely return.

As a child I spent many a family day out at Devil's Bridge, so was lovely to be able to share with my daughter and husband. The kitchen is fabulously equipped (as a family we enjoy cooking a lot, and so cooking our favourite meals is a holiday treat).

The cottage is clean , well equipped and the beds are comfortable. It was a puzzle trying to find the recycling bins , as we didn’t realise we had to share . The window in the bathroom could do with having a blind or curtain. However, it is a very nice cottage and we enjoyed touring the surrounding areas .

  • "The cottage is listed as semi detached however no mention of other cottages and shared parking area etc."

Although the other residents were not a bother except for a small parking issue which we resolved. The outside area needs some care, the paved area is in need of some repair as it makes the table unsteady, one of the chairs provided need replaced/repaired - one had a broken arm. The grassed area is lovely. The cottage was extremely comfortable and clean, well equipped too. Overall a good choice for a visit to the area. The owner came to see we had settled in ok how to get hold of them if any issues etc. but did not bother us throughout our stay. We would recommend Fleshbeck to anyone looking for a place to stay.

This is the second time we have stayed at Fleshbeck Cottage. The ? 17th century cottage which has been renovated is located in a lovely rural setting just outside of the town of Kirby Lonsdale. This town is a good base for a central visiting many of the key sites in Yorkshire, Cumbria and Lancashire (most being within 1 hours drive). The cottage is warm, cosy and comfortable and the owners close by/easily accessible to assist with any matters. Happy to provide a recommendation for this cottage and company

Enclosed garden for my dog was a bonus and being south facing it was lovely to sit out on the patio in the sun. Comfy bed, warm central heating, good shower, well equipped kitchen with lovely crockery, large TV with free view, good WiFi....everything was perfect. I recommend the Inn in Barbon for a pint or The Milking Parlour in Kirkby Lonsdale for ice cream after a day’s hike! There’s also a large Booths in KL for shopping, market day is Thursday, and there are 2 good golf courses nearby. The drive through Barbondale and along Dentdale is spectacular and the climb up Barbon Low Fell gives great views. I’ve booked for next year already which says it all really!

Picture-perfect cottage and well appointed inside. The small garden and patio area was ideal for breakfast coffees or star-gazing with a glass of wine. Located on a very quiet lane, 10' drive along Lune valley from Kirkby Lonsdale. Perfectly suited for exploring the Yorkshire Dales and for quick access to the Lakes. Recommend not to miss the Thursday morning market in KL.

We were a bit apprehensive as we have never stayed in a dog-friendly cottage before, but the cottage was extremely clean and looked after. The kitchen was well equipped with every thing you could possibly need. No dishwasher but no problem, the lovely crockery would not have been able to go in there anyway! We met the owners briefly and and they were lovely and friendly. Couldn't fault our stay.

So peaceful. Beautiful outlook over nearby farmland. Walks right on the doorstep. Spooky scratching from the loft!! • "The picture of the cottage is misleading as it implies a detached cottage and therefore we were very disappointed on arrival to find that not only was it actually in a small group of cottages, it was semi-detached and we had neighbours with dogs that barked a lot."

It was only on reading the finer detail at the very bottom of the advertisement after we arrived, that we found the note that it was semi-detached. Regrettably also, some of the cooking utensils were not clean (fat on the inside of a frying pan and some plates not clean) which in light of the current concerns about Covid-19, did not make us feel very relaxed. I did mention this to the owners as I think it is important for them to be aware and assume they thought the previous occupants had done everything. - not quite the idyllic peace and quiet we had hoped for.

Many thanks for your feedback. Our website clearly states that this is a superb stone-built semi-detached cottage at the top of the property description and I am sorry if you missed this. The owner has informed us that you did mention that you had found the frying pan dirty and she apologised to you for this and said she must have missed it, because she cleans the property herself. The owner takes a real pride in keeping the property clean and if any guest has any problems at all she is on hand to assist as soon as possible and always scores highly for cleanliness. • "Property was looking a tad tired and in need of decoration."

We were not aware that the dining room window looked directly into the cottage behind ours. Very off putting when eating meals. The kitchen was also overlooked but had a net curtain at the window. The kitchen and bathroom were spotless, but other rooms could do with being given the same level of dusting. The garden was sadly quite neglected, and several shrubs and plants were in need off a good chop and tidy. There was no welcome pack, and this was the first cottage we have stayed in were there was no hairdryer. That said, the cottage is in a lovely place and we did have a relaxing holiday. It was also very kind and much appreciated that they let us bring a second dog.

  • "The cottage was in a lovely spot, very peaceful."

It was very clean & had just about everything you would need & being able to take the dog was a bonus, lovely little enclosed garden. However 3 things we felt let it down, there is no heat in the bathroom or bedrooms( there are plug in heaters in bedrooms so not such a problem),but it would have been nice to have somewhere to dry towels. On our first night we were cold, as the storage heater on landing didn't seem to come on till early morning. In the lounge there is a plug in heater, but without lighting the fire that is totally inadequate in the winter. The storage heater in dining room hardly felt warm. There is also just a plug in heater in kitchen. Thirdly it would have been nice to have proper sized bath towels. We did enjoy our stay & the cottage is obviously loved & well cared for, but I think you would struggle to be warm enough had the weather been snowing & frosty.

About the location

KIRKBY LONSDALE

Kendal 9 miles.

An attractive market town, Kirkby Lonsdale is situated in the heart of the Lune Valley, midway between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. The town was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, and holds a 13th century Market Charter. Nowadays, Thursday is market day, a perfect opportunity for visitors to explore the variety of distinctive independent shops in the town, or the many 17th and 18th century buildings which still stand. The town was also a finalist for the High Street of the Year Award in 2016. This part of the Lune Valley was a favourite haunt of the artist Turner, and was made famous by Ruskin – his "view" of the valley is still spectacular. The medieval Devil’s Bridge spans the river, and the quiet country lanes are ideal for exploring by car, bike, or even horse. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, fishing and a variety of riverside and country walks, making the area an ideal location for a break, whatever time of year. When voting Kirkby Lonsdale as the ‘Best Place to Live in The North West’ in 2019, The Sunday Times commented it is “An unbeatable Lake District location, bags of community spirit and one of the cleanest high streets in the country".
