"I am still waiting for a response from Sykes following my booking."I complained about having to remove dirty bedding and towels on the first night of stay and make my own beds at this property. There was a smelly rag on the kitchen sink and the kitchen bin had not been cleaned. There was a residue in the bin that I had to clean. The house had not been cleaned for our arrival. I am not receiving a response after being directed to WhatsApp. I have entered details on WhatsApp 4 times now. I’m hoping this review might help you to respond as your customer service is shocking. "Lovely cottage."The bed was incredibly comfortable and the room temperature just right. We slept better than we have in ages! The kitchen is well-equipped so it was easy to make meals. The washing machine was good too. We only really used 1 of the 2 living rooms, but loved the 1 with the log fire. Great to relax in there in the evening with the reclining sofas and huge TV. We were working during our stay and the WiFi was excellent. Great bright working space in the kitchen area. The bathroom was clean with good supplies. Parking was tight but we always found a space. We absolutely loved the cottage and hope to stay again soon during a week when we don't need to work so we can explore the area! Evening walks around the village were a great way to unwind and the pub about a 10 minute walk away is lovely. Reviewed by Nicola5.0★Sep 2025

"Just arrived back from a stay at Ribble valley cottage."The house was very clean and comfortable. Everything you needed was there. A couple of things let it down, one of which the owners probably can do nothing about was parking we could not park outside the house at anytime both for unloading and loading this made things a little awkward. The other thing was the garden was very overgrown and when you went to the bins you got wet. The remote controls were very confusing and some did not work even when I changed the batteries, maybe a simpler tv system would be easier. Good base for traveling from. "Potentially lovely cottage, but major issues not addressed."We were extremely disappointed with our stay at Ribble Valley Cottage. On arrival we found old and mouldy food left in the fridge, old used food in the cupboards, damp smells, stained carpets, worn towels and a general lack of cleanliness. We also discovered exposed wiring at the light switch in the kitchen, a serious safety concern. We notified both the owner and Sykes immediately, and provided photographs, but the owner made no direct contact with us, and most replies from Sykes were automated. During our stay the bedroom curtain rail fell down, and in the twin room we found two protruding nails in the floor. The front door was difficult to use, as other reviews have noted. Again, both the owners and Sykes were notified as these problems arose, along with photographs, but we had no response from the owner. Although £100 compensation was offered, it took a week after the end of our booking to receive it. Our holiday had been spoiled to the point that we left a day before the end of our booking. This property could be lovely, and is in a beautiful area, but ongoing problems with cleanliness, maintenance and safety are not being properly addressed.
I am usually contactable, but I have been in hospital having surgery and recovering. So I would hope you will understand that I have not been in a position to respond.
I‘m sorry your experience was less than it should have been.
I have addressed the cleaning company regarding the cleanliness and not removing items items from the fridge to make sure this oversight doesn’t happen again.
The curtain rail has been rehung.
The house has passed its electrical check.
Best regards

"This is a great little cottage in the centre of Ribchester."Well equipped with comfy beds! Lovely cottage garden. Our little tribe of boys (aged 7, 4 and 1) has so much fun exploring the village and learning about the Romans. A friendly local government them a guided tour of the old granaries and the local vicar total them all about the church and the ancient pulpit.
We would love to return one day.
                        Hi Donna-Marie,
Thank you so much for your positive feedback. We’re so pleased that you enjoyed the cottage and Ribchester.

"A beautiful traditional looking country cottage in the middle of a quiet village."Very cosy with a front living room & middle living room with a decent sized kitchen/dining area, fully equipped with everything you need. There are patio doors leading out on to a gorgeous cottage garden with patio furniture. We spent our evenings in the middle room which has two leather double sofas both reclining and were very comfortable when watching the large TV. There was a problem with the syncing on the TV but my husband managed to sort it out and we took our own fire stick for our own viewing entertainment.
There is a large main bedroom with a lovely four poster bed and king size mattress which was a little soft for us being used to a firm mattress but fairly comfortable nonetheless, plenty of wardrobe and drawer space too. Together with a nice sized bathroom with plenty of towels for your use. Local pubs are just a few minutes away, The White Bull right on the doorstep & The Ribchester Arms on the edge of the village both serving excellent food. There is also a convenience store a short walk from the property too so all in all a perfect location. Parking is tight with it being on a small road but we always managed to get a parking spot close to the cottage every night. Would highly recommend a visit to this little gem of a property.
                        Hi Allistair and Tracey,
Thank you very much for your review. It means a lot to us to know that our guests have had an enjoyable stay. We love to stay there, too! It’s our bolthole in the UK.
Sorry to hear you had problems with the TV, though, but happy to hear you were able to rectify it.
Thanks once again and hope you can return in the future.

"The owner was responsive."The cottage was spacious, with a lovely dining area which opened out into a beautiful garden where there was outside seating. Sitting out on an evening and watching butterflies and bees dart amongst the flowers was idyllic.
Thank you for your review, Cath. I‘m very pleased that you could enjoy the garden.

"Beautiful little cottage, surprisingly spacious with 2 living rooms."Me, my husband, and our dog spent 5 nights here at the end of January 2025. We'd have our morning coffee in the front lounge as this was a much brighter room first thing, then settle down in the rear living room in the evening after a day out exploring. There are plenty of DVDs to watch, however we didn't use them as we took our Firestick. Thete are 2 large bedrooms, the master has plenty of storage with huge wardrobe space. The dining area is super cosy, especially at night with the little fairy lights glowing on the tree. Kitchen has all the mod cons and everything we needed. Location wise, the cottage is situated just 2 minutes away from the River Ribble for exercising the dog, plus a lovely church with a historic graveyard to explore - if you're into that kind of thing!! The White Bull is a 2 minute walk in the opposite direction, although it was closed Monday and Tuesday, as was the Black Bull, which is a further 5 minutes down the road. We highly recommend the Ribchester Arms, which is approximately a 10 minute walk from the cottage, they do delicious and very reasonably priced meals all day. Parking is available on the main road outside the cottage. All in all, a lovely, peaceful and relaxing break.

"A warm and welcoming cottage in a great location."Well equipped with all you might need. If arriving on a Friday evening we can recommend the takeaway fish and chips from the nearby Black Bull. The Glasshouse at Stydd is well worth a visit and for groceries Booths in Longridge is the fantastic.
Dear Mr Clegg, thank you very much for your kind comments and great tips!

"The property is in need of a makeover and deep clean."We arrived to find dirty dishes in the dish washer and old food left around. Not even close to Sykes normal high standards.
                        Dear Mr Burgess,
I‘m very astonished to read your comment that the house is in need of a makeover as the whole house was completely redecorated throughout earlier this year and renovated with new windows, doors and new roof last year.
We don’t aim for a modern look, but a cosy country house, home from home feel. I‘m sorry that this didn’t satisfy you.
As to the cleanliness of the house I will, of course, speak to our cleaning company about your complaints. We are normally very satisfied with their high standards of cleaning.
