  • "We loved our time at Penyghent Cottage."

It was spacious, very clean and well equipped, with everything needed for a comfortable stay. The setting is second to none, with wonderful views across the valley. There is plenty of walking and cycling from the doorstep, yet it's only minutes from Settle and under 30 minutes from Kirkby Lonsdale. Gorgeous Arnside is only an hour away for a great day at the seaside. We would love to return and hope to do so before too long.

  • "We enjoyed a fabulous week in Penyghent View."

The property is well equipped and well maintained. The location is perfect, for bobbing into town for provisions or spending a day in The Lakes. There are also some fabulous scenic walks, both from the property or further afield using the car. We would thoroughly recommend this property to everyone. Thank you to the owners for allowing us to stay in their beautiful barn conversion.

  • "We were disappointed with the TV systems."

The kitchen set would not get any BBC channel, and the one in the lounge had difficulty keeping a signal which made watching it at best irritating and at worst, impossible. That said, it is only the third property to which we have returned in 40 years. The location and views from the picture windows are outstanding.

We are really sorry to hear that the television signal was not so good - we have had these problems with signal due to our location. We have tried to stick with Sky TV hoping that this would give us the wide range of channels and a constant signal though there system. We have installed Smart TV's in other properties but they rely on the internet, something which used to be a problem but now we have B4RN seems to be much more reliable (until it's not!) We will install a SMART TV into Penyghent View then hopefully all the issues will be solved. We are really sorry for any inconvenience it has caused, and do hope that this fix will encourage you to make another trip back to the dales. Property Owner

The view was stunning and the layout of the barn was great with under floor heating as a lovely bonus. We all had a great time and would definitely recommend the place.

  • "Accommodation was very good, wonderful view from windows."

It was strange that we never saw anything of the hosts when we arrived or before we left. Saw various people go past windows but no idea who hosts were! Had problems with the Sky television reception etc. for whole holiday - rugby was on during week we stayed and reception lost continually during rugby matches and other programmes - extremely annoying!

We are really sorry that we didn't get to meet you, however we would only make ourselves known to visitors on their request we do not like to impose on peoples holidays. We are sorry you didn't get in touch to let us know that you didn't have good tv reception, we do leave a business card in the property with our contact number and email in case of any problems such as this, then we can resolve them quickly. We have since checked out the Sky TV and there doesn't seem to be any problem with it, we have B4RN Wi-Fi now and this seems to work extremely well giving everyone a great signal. We are very sorry for the inconvenience it caused. Property Owner

Accommodation was excellent and we have had a very comfortable stay with everything we could have asked for in the cottage, although the outside space was overlooked from other cottages and the Wi-Fi and television was intermittent, we do recommend the place for the accommodation and beautiful views

I am really sorry about the Wi-Fi and television, this is a very unusual situation. The previous week we had had this comment ..... "the property was well equipped and comfortable, WiFi and Sky TV an added bonus" Since we had barn Wi-Fi fitted over 2 years ago now we have had fantastic internet connection and therefore fantastic Sky TV reception, I am so sorry that during your stay you found it to be intermittent. I am glad that you enjoyed the accommodation and the beautiful views of the surrounding area. Property Owner

The large kitchen diner has every thing you need and is well equiped if you decide to stay in and cook, the views out of the windows first thing while having breakfast and planning your day are nice. The only thing missing for my partner was a full length mirror so she could see how she looked before went out for dinner :-) The living room and bedrooms are large and spacious and all well equiped for everthing you would need to have a comfortable break. The only thing missing for my partner was a full length mirror so she could see how she looked before went out for dinner :-) Because she 5ft nothing she found the mirrors to high. The Property was clean and well maintained in a quiet location that is pretty central to everywere your likely to go in the Dales. We also met the owners by pure chance while filling the car at the Garrage, they regognised the car and asked if we had a good holiday and asked if we would stay again the simple answer is 100% yes we would stay again if its was available.

HI Paul Thankyou for your lovely feedback I am glad that you found everything you wanted whilst staying at Penyghent View, even the beautiful views. I will look to getting a long mirror, although I am sure you told your wife, as all men would, how beautiful she looked!! We would love for you to have a return trip anytime in the future, and hope you had a safe journey home Thankyou for your lovely review. Property Owner

  • "Whilst this cottage is well-equipped, very clean and with gorgeous views, it had the most uncomfortable hard mattresses we've had the misfortune of sleeping on for some time."

I appreciate some people may like or prefer very hard mattresses, but I suspect they are not the majority. I ended up sleeping on the sofa. A decent night's sleep is everything, and sadly we were relieved to check out.

Thankyou for your feedback I am really sorry to hear of your discomfort, I do appreciate how important it is to get a good nights sleep. I do think it is very difficult when choosing such items to try and accommodate everyone - and on this basis I buy from reputable local company and go on their highest recommendation, so I can only apologize. I am glad that you found the cottage to be well -equipped, and most importantly very clean, we do love the view - especially at this time of the year when we have all the lambs around. Out in the countryside so lovely and dark and quiet, yet still only 10 minutes drive from Settle with all it's shops, pubs and takeaways. Great location for walking (Penyghnet and Ingleton) and cycling (Gisburn Forest) Property was split over 3 floors so loads of room, and the underfloor heating was brilliant. Room to store bikes in the barn, all the facilities you need, and although the listing said wifi was patchy it was actually really good. Met the owner who was really helpful in recommending places to go. All in all a fantastic holiday.

  • "The property is a beautiful conversion in an outstanding location and certainly lives up to expectations, a full Sky package is a most welcome bonus."

Settle is an interesting place to visit with plenty of shops, pubs and cafes. There are plenty of local walks and famous tourist spots such as Malham Cove, Ribblehead Viaduct, and Skipton Castle are within a short drive. The nearby pub, (The Craven Arms) is excellent, with great food and beer, if you need a good Sunday dinner you will need to book a table. There are two minus points to mention, first it is stated that the property has a slow WiFi signal, the week we were there there was no WiFi signal at all, to some people this fact could be important, secondly is although the kitchen is well equipped, the saucepans and trays are in poor condition and well past their use by date, they need replacing, again this is important to people who do not wish to eat out every day. On the whole this is a great property in a great location, we loved it.
