  • "Amazing place to get away for a few days."

Nic and Claire were welcoming and warm. A wonderful hello from them to complement a great building and grounds. We would not hesitate at all to recommend it or the walks to go on when there.

  • "We had a lovely, restful break at the Pump House, the setting is wonderful and the conversion of the building is fantastic with enormous attention to detail."

It was like a home from home, everything we needed to feel comfortable was provided, especially in the kitchen. Nic was also very kind and helpful. We would definitely recommend a stay at the Pump House.

  • "The Pump House is simply stunning!"

Right from the start this property did not fail to impress. The open plan living space was so comfortable, the kitchen had every item you could think of, the library an added bonus and a beautiful room to take morning coffee or an evening glass of wine, the bed was so, so comfortable, the rainfall shower just divine.... I could go on and on! The attention to detail was amazing, from the artwork available to buy to the little touches like paintbrushes, frames and oils scattered around. We were very lucky with the weather and went on some beautiful walks, there are pubs in both directions around 20 minutes walk. And finally thank you to the owners Nic & Claire who were very informative and even left us a welcome hamper! Perfection :)

  • "What a fabulous place!"

We had a March booking so we were a little worried it might be a bit cool given the size of the rooms, but not a bit of it - in fact we were turning the heating down ! Nic and Clair were great hosts and must be complemented on the fantastic job they have done with this property. The interior design and artwork is top notch whilst the property is also really comfortable to stay in and spotlessly clean. Our only complaint...... having to leave.

  • "Nic & Claire have created something quite special; the Pump House is a very comfortable place to stay."

It is unique in design and you want for nothing when you arrive it’s very pleasing to the eye with all the facilities you need. You are surrounded by nature and there are lots of good walks to explore the area during your stay. Nic & Claire are great hosts, very friendly and knowledgeable about things to see and do during your stay. It felt special to be able to stay at the Pump House. Thank you.

  • "The Pump House is an amazing place to stay, whether to appreciate the abundant wildlife from every window and from the sun trapping waterside terrace, or the wonderful detail throughout the stunning structure with its fascinating history, or simply to enjoy the peace, privacy and tranquility of this unique place."

Nic and Claire are incredibly thoughtful and gracious hosts, who are providing an immaculate, perfectly equipped home with crisply dressed, comfortable beds and interesting touches at every turn. We absolutely love it here hence this is our second stay here this winter, and definitely won’t be our last!

  • "We spent three nights at the pump house to see in the new year and all four of us agreed it was the best holiday rental we’d never stayed in."

Firstly, Nic and Claire were brilliant hosts. Welcoming but not overbearing in any way. They also left some welcome goodies in the kitchen which was a lovely touch and much appreciated. Secondly, the pump house is a seriously stylish place to stay. Every single item’s positioning has been carefully considered and it’s that attention to detail which makes the Pump House Art Studio so special. Nic and Claire have thought of absolutely everything you might want when you’re away from home. Board games, books, wellies, bluetooth speaker…you name it and Nic and Claire have thought of it. Thirdly, if you’re after a good night’s sleep you’ll definitely get it here too. The black out shutters are amazing ensure you’re in absolute darkness. The linen on the bed was beautifully crisp and the beds were super comfy. There’s also a couple of pubs nearby and within walking distance, but you won’t want to leave the pump house for too long because it really is a very special place to stay. We honestly wouldn’t have changed a single thing and would go back in an instant

  • "What a place this is."

5* From the moment we arrived we were made welcome by Nic and Claire. There is surprise around every corner at The Pump House. Attention to detail is fantastic. Every stone turned at The Pump House tells a little story. Information provided is endless. The scenery is fantastic from every position (internally and externally). The walks are endless and can be done in any direction. The artwork is stunning, and in every corner of The Pump House. As said before, every corner tells a story whether though artistic impression or attention to detail on a really sympathetic restoration. Staying at The Pump house caused quite a stir with friends from the local area who (as children) had played in the ruins. Everybody had a tale to tell about this place, and in turn only added to the drama of our stay. We were fortunate enough to have stayed over Christmas and this added to what I can only describe as a truly magical stay at The Pump House. Thank you Nic and Claire. Ooh forgot to mention the Kingfisher were also absolutely stunning. Thanks again. Glynn & Lisa.

  • "What a perfect break away in the UK."

Visited a part of the country we had never been to and it was awesome. The Pumphouse is everything you could wish for a complete get away in the country, away from traffic, alongside the river and within walking distance of pubs, grocery store, post office, butcher etc. The building is superb, we actually cooked in every night of our 7 night stay as we just loved being there; we would have tea in the library in the morning and watch the wildlife; I'd do yoga in the garden (idyllic); we would read lying on the chaise lounge on the mezzanine; have dinner on the patio watching the sun go down - absolutely could not fault. Nic & Claire (the owners) were so lovely, and allowed us free use of their fresh herbs they grew (which we did). Would highly recommend this accommodation and look forward to going back in the future.

They had ensured that the accommodation was excellent with lots of interesting touches. The location was very good with plenty of walks and interesting places to visit. Old building with contemporary interior which has been completed to a high standard. Bedding was super comfy we had a trouble getting up in the mornings. The accommodation has everything you need. Great location for walking or cycling as it’s flat. We visited Lincoln city which is definitely worth the drive. Hosts Nic and Claire are really friendly. On hand should you need anything but not intrusive in any way. Saw lots of wildlife including kingfishers. Probably one if the best places we have stayed in

.... everything about this holiday was perfect, from start to finish. Nic and Claire were wonderful hosts and had thought of absolutely everything. Nothing was ever too much trouble, communication was great throughout. The Pumphouse was stunning, such a joy to chill out in, so different to any other holiday let we've stayed in. From the great artwork scattered around the place to the amazing views from different windows. Lots of wildlife to be seen and something new to spot everyday.. rabbits, foxes and beautiful birds. The area is fab too, nice and quiet, and only a short walk to the village shop (and butcher which was great) or to a few local pubs. We walked along the canal and rivers most days enjoying the all scenic views. All in all, if you'd like somewhere to fall in love with..The Pumphouse is the place to go for sure! We would definitely return to this beauty!!

  • "Amazing property."

I've recommended it to so many people. If you're looking for something unique this is it. We're going through a really stressful time at the moment and this place had such a calming effect. It is like living in an Art studio/museum but in a really great way. You feel comfortable staying there and its been very well thought out. I'd love to see it in the various seasons, I'm not artistic at all but I've been raving about the light at different times of day. The owners are in the other part of the property but this isn't intrusive in any way. You might see them to wave across the water but that was all. We've rarely gone back to the same property twice but i absolutely would here.

Misterton and the area is also lovely with a number of pubs and eating places opening up and only a short walk. The owners were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. I enjoyed it so much we have already booked for a second visit. Thank you

The property

Originally built over 160 years ago, The Pump House Art Studio is a special and unique, Grade II* listed property.

Formerly a working pump house, used to drain excess water from the The Mother Drain, dug in 1790, into The River Idle, it has been transformed into a stunning, contemporary art studio and holiday let.

Settled in the village of Misterton in northern Nottinghamshire, The Pump House Art Studio is one of two identical buildings, named by the Victorians Kate and Ada, one being the owners' home, each with dramatic chimney stacks and connected by a beautiful glass walkway over the water.

Follow the rural country lane up to the property and admire the scenic surroundings before parking up and entering into the beautiful living space - be impressed by huge windows flooding the area with light, dramatic high ceilings and an array of stylish furniture to relax on, surrounded by fantastic artwork by the owners and other local artists.

Enjoy watching TV, quirkily propped up by an easel, whilst lounging on the long sofa, or sit at the impressive dining table as you plan your next adventures.

The property is full of interesting items and furnishings, as well as a vintage press sitting beneath the mezzanine.

Discover a wonderfully styled kitchen with grey subway tiling where you can get creative with the array of cooking appliances, with a unique breakfast bar island to perch at and pop open a bottle of fizz to toast to your fabulous escape.

Enjoy peaceful moments in the library, with two plush seats to relax in and a large window offering views over the water.

A further tranquil living space can be found up on the first-floor mezzanine, featuring rustic timber beams, an original arched window and further beautiful seating.

Settle down in one of two double bedrooms where the décor continues to impress, both served by a sleek and fully tiled bathroom.

Enjoy spending time out in the well-kept garden, whether alfresco dining at the outdoor patio furniture or sunbathing on the lawn.

Take a stroll down into the village of Misterton to discover all you need for your self-catered stay, including a Co-op, several takeaways, a great fish and chip shop and a pub, or amble off road along The River Idle to The Haxey Inn for the Sunday carvery.

The surrounding area is a wonderful haven for walkers with lots of countryside to explore and walks along The Idle and The Chesterfield Canal.

Yards away from your front door is The River Idle and its surrounds with an abundance of great British wildlife including kingfishers, buzzards, owls, heron, woodpecker, moorhen and numerous birds!

The Art Studio is sited directly on a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) - Head down to Idle Valley Nature Reserve to admire the striking wetland scenery.

Head for the medieval city of Lincoln to see the incredible cathedral and adjacent castle, or perhaps visit The International Bomber Command Centre and memorial if you are interested in WWII history.

Or for excitement there's the big cats at The Yorkshire Wildlife Park or Doncaster Races, home of The St.Leger Festival.

Delight in peaceful afternoons on the green at Thornock Park golf course, attend a riding class at the local equestrian centre, or stay closer to home and spend time fishing on the stretch of the River Idle which the owners have rights to.

Enjoy the wonderful countryside surroundings on your relaxing escape to the historic, Grade II* listed wonder that is The Pump House Art Studio.
