  • "Without a doubt the nicest place we have ever stayed at for a holiday!"

Heron Lodge is fantastic. There were five of us, aged from 18 to 84, every one of us loved it and will definitely be returning in the future. The grounds are beautiful and the owners make sure that everything is fine for you, without interfering, it is peaceful and quiet and you are guaranteed a good night's sleep. There are lots of places to visit that are not far away by car, or you could stock up and spend your time without going anywhere!

  • "What a find !"

Heron Lodge is absolutely fabulous. Extremely clean, spacious, comfortable, well appointed and with great attention to detail. All needs catered for. Nothing has be overlooked. Very quiet location, stunning views, beautiful grounds to explore with lots of wildlife to watch. Heron Lodge is ideal for couples and families with children over 12 years old (the property has 3 lakes) Our hosts were adorable, with lots of knowledge and suggestions of what to do in the area, nothing was too much trouble. Local village 2.5 miles away has good local shops, a supermarket and a variety of takeaways. We can recommend the 'chippy' ! 40 minutes to the seaside, 30 minutes or so to Lincoln and lots more to do on your doorstep. We enjoyed our stay sooooo much, infact, we have already rebooked for next year. Thank you Denise and Andy.

Literally nothing has been missed or is short. Superlatives hardly cover the description of both the cottage, its facilities, the location and indeed the most amazing hosts. I have rented many many great cottages before but I have to say that all round this one beats the list to the top. Thanks you again Andy and Denise for a most wonderful time! We will return for sure

  • "Beautiful bungalow which is credit to the lovely owners Denise and Andy who live in in a nearby bungalow on the grounds."

They are very approachable and have thought of everything to make your break away home from home. The single beds are divans and are extremely comfortable. The double is more springy but it is fine. Lovely furnishings. Very clean throughout. Plenty of fluffy towels/hot water. Plum loaf that was left for us was lovely (can be bought from nearby garden centre). Also tea/coffee/milk to make a cuppa on arrival was welcomed. Situated nearby (a couple of miles I think) to local facilities (shops/supermarket) but still remains very peaceful. I don't want to gush too much about Heron Lodge as I don't want it to get fully booked! If anyone moans about staying here, then nothing would please them! Excellent communication from Sykes.

The property was perfect for us in every way. Beautifully situated away from the road, along a long gravel drive, very quiet and private, with lovely views over the grounds. Every effort to ensure our comfort had been considered with great attention to detail. Despite being spacious and open- plan it was very warm and cosy. It was extremely well-equipped and very clean, with all necessary Covid sanitation precautions taken. We used the Lodge mainly as a base for walking in the area to gain access to the start of our daily countryside and coastal walks without having to drive too far. Denise and Andy, the owners who lived on site further up the drive, were lovely - very helpful yet considerate of our privacy. We very much appreciated their welcome pack containing tea, coffee, milk and plum bread loaf. The fact that we plan to return in the future says it all. In a word ... superb!

. We stayed August 13th for one week with our 2 daughters. The owners Denise and Andrew have literally thought of everything and are so helpful. The property is spotlessly clean, which in these current times is more important than ever. This is by far the best accommodation we have stayed in and Denise and Andrew are really great hosts and nothing is too much trouble. You can tell they take great pride in their property and that they want you to have a wonderful holiday. It is such a comfortable and relaxing place to stay. Why Sykes have only given it 4 stars is a mystery. If this property and its hosts are not 5 stars, we don’t know what is. We will definitely be returning in the future. Mr and Mrs Gray. August 2021

The grounds and the lake are well kept and full of wildlife. The cottage was spotlessly clean and Covid safe. Despite looking we could not find any faults with the cottage and it exceeds the description on the website. • "Heron Lodge is in a secluded spot where only the occupants and the owners have access to the lakes and the woodland."

There is a wide, gently sloping grassed area at the front of the lodge where my teenage boys loved playing foorball and cricket. We had access to fish in the closest lake which pleased my 15 year old son. In the house, there is a good selection of outdoor games equipment in the boot room,, and a good selection of board games, books, and DVDs. The lodge is immaculate, in both cleanliness and decor. It is light and spacious, and the kitchen is very well equipped. The owners have provided plenty of good information about the area and although the property feels secluded, it is in close proximity to the small market town of Spilsby. Milk, sugar, teabags and coffee, plus a Plum Loaf, were thoughtfully provided on our arrival. The owners Andy and Denise were very approachable and friendly. I don't have any critical comments to make at all - other than keep your eyes peeled for the entrance, which is off quite a busy, speedy B-Road - there are a few properties with a similar address and the entrance to the gravel drive is upon you very quickly. Perhaps maybe a metal heron at the top of the drive?

  • "This is a nicely converted, spacious, cosy cottage, situated within the owner's area of natural woodland with four lakes and a wide variety of wildlife."

As well as the immediate surroundings, the cottage is also well situated for visiting the many nature reserves around the north side of the Wash and the wide variety of aircraft museums and heritage centres on the Lincolnshire Wolds. Our only problem was the speed and reliability of the internet connection, partly due to the lack of a fast broadband infrastructure in this part of East Lincolnshire, but also the use of an unreliable powerline connection between the cottage and the owner's bungalow. We solved the problem by setting up our mobile phone as a hotspot and placing it high up on one of the windows facing towards the nearest mast.

  • "Heron Lodge is superb."

The lodge is modern, comfortable and beautifully presented - a real credit to the owners. Its about a 10 minute drive from Spilsby and sits in open countryside. The lodge itself is about 150m away from the road down a gravel driveway. The open plan layout works well and the lodge felt very spacious although the single bedroom lacks much hanging space and could maybe benefit from some blackout curtains unless you appreciate early starts. The lodge is very well equipped and the owners have clearly put a lot of thought into what guests might need, especially the little 'extra' things such as a picnic basket and binoculars to borrow, spare batteries for the TV remote, notepaper, magnifying glass, plenty of information about the area and its attractions as well as a good selection of books, magazines, DVDs and games for any wet days. It just creates a feeling that everything you might need for a self-catering break is there, including all the things you have forgotten. There was also tea, coffee, milk and cake to greet us with, much appreciated. The real attraction are the 20+ acres of grounds the Lodge sits in and in which guests are able to wander along the mown paths maintained by the owner. The grounds are a little steep in places (but no problem for an 84 year old) and consist of woodland, meadow and four small lakes. A stroll through these grounds observing the wildlife (deer, rabbit, partridge, pheasant, owls and of course Heron amongst others) is a great way to end a Spring day. All in all, can't recommend Heron Lodge highly enough and hope to return one day. Many thanks to the owners for helping to provide a very memorable break
