• "Need a bit of TLC especially in the bedroom at back door."

  carpets need attention hole in wood in back door bedroom window in bathroom. not the cleanest. lots of cobwebs, found about 3 pairs of underwear from previous guests in different rooms. my bed sheet was all stained.

• "Generally we enjoyed our stay, was very clean and met our needs."

  Unfortunately the fire doors were not operating as they should and banged shut very loudly throughout the stay. With the stud walls throughout it made for a noisy time. The broken off locks were also unsightly. Sadly some of the bed mattresses were not a high standard. In the master bedroom I personally slept very badly, hard as a rock! The hot tub was wonderful as was plenty of carparking. No baking sheets that fitted in the small side oven? Downstairs space not really enough for the amount of guests. Better to lose a bedroom and create more sitting space. We come to Scotland every year for a similar price for a large family. 6/10. Change the doors, new mattresses, lose a bedroom. Would be a 9/10.

  Hi Phillipa, Thanks for taking time to leave your review. I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay at Newton Hall and it met your needs. Great to hear you loved the hot tub and that you found we had plenty of parking. The fire doors can be loud - but are designed to close forcefully, to ensure a proper fire-break. If the closers are adjusted to close too softly, then the door does not close fully, presenting a fire risk - something that we take very seriously. Fire doors should always be fully closed if guests are out, or asleep, however we provide doorstops for use when guests are in residence during waking hours and if used, there would have solved your concern. I can understand the confusion but our locks are not 'broken off' - we removed individual internal door locks when guests continued to lock themselves out of their rooms. All our mattresses are memory foam medium-to-firm mattresses...and we consistently get excellent feedback from our guests on these. I'm sorry you didn't sleep well - unfortunately what didn't work for you does work excellently for our other guests. It is unfortunate that you have scored our whole property harshly for comfort, based on your poor night's sleep. Thanks for highlighting that our baking trays fit the two main ovens but not the side oven, I'll ensure we re-stock these. I'm unsure how you found downstairs lacking space, we have seating for 18, spread over two separate areas. I reached out to you after you left your review, to discuss your feedback but sadly you declined to engage with me. It is disheartening to see such harsh scores for comfort and facilities when you have already said you enjoyed your stay....and the place met your needs. As a small family business our feedback is what we live or die by. We work hard to provide all our guests with an amazing experience and life-long memories....I'm very sorry that it seems we weren't able to achieve that for your group. • "Our group had a lovely stay at Newton Hall."

  It's a fascinating historic building in a wonderful setting. We were extremely impressed with the service we received, answering calls even in the evening, and sending someone around the next day to help us. One of our party left something behind and it was found and posted to her the next day. Thank you for your care.

• "This house is spacious and in a beautiful location in a pretty small town."

  It could be fabulous - but parts are tired and need upgrading, the kitchen is badly designed and not really adequate for large parties (we were 11 but they take up to 18), and there were issues with non-functioning bulbs in several rooms. And there was only one set of keys! This might have been just about okay at a pinch if the back door could close - but the only way to close it was to lock it. Horribly inconvenient, and ridiculous for large parties. That said, the people who managed the property were pleasant, although we never did get extra keys.....

With regards to the keys, we understand that having only one set may have been inconvenient. Our policy of providing a single set per booking is in place as a security measure, as additional sets in circulation can increase the risk of loss or compromise. That said, we always aim to make our arrangements as practical as possible for our guests, and your comments will be taken into consideration when reviewing our current approach. • "Newton Hall was the perfect base for our family get together."

  Beautifully clean, very comfortable and incredibly well equipped, especially the kitchen (lots of large pots & pans, cutlery, crockery and sharp knives). Plenty of room to spread out, as well as space for us all to be together when we wanted, especially round the huge dining table. The bedrooms are beautiful and each with it's own quirkiness. Very comfortable beds. No one felt short-changed with their room. Our group ranged from age 2 to 83, some with mobility issues (but able to go up the short flight of stairs to the living areas), and this couldn't have been any better for us. The owner was attentive but not intrusive and responded quickly to any queries during our stay. Thank you for providing this gem of a holiday home in this beautiful part of the country.

• "Very well suited to a mix of generations in a family."

  Warm in the rooms. Very clean and tidy. Nice to have darts and table football too. Coop is very close and convenient for last minute items. Very good email communication from Company. Lovely views.Good parking at back and in carpark nearby. Loch-facing bedrooms get noise from road,light-sleepers be aware. Main door didn’t stay closed-keys were needed so small point if anyone went out. Shame 4pm check in 10am check out,as we felt it rushed things a bit,but this may be standard times everywhere? All in all a very enjoyable stay.
