  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Bro Dawel."

Dolgellau is a great location, walks on the doorstep, beautiful scenery, a choice of dog friendly pubs, restaurants and cafes and the Mawddach Trail is good if you enjoy running or cycling. The cottage itself is comfortable and cosy, really comfy bed, nice sofa and brilliant shower. It’s in a good location for stroll into town and we didn’t have any problem with parking, just one afternoon we couldn’t park outside but there are plenty of spaces just up the road if needed. The only suggestions on minor improvements we could make would be the oven has a shelf missing which is a bit tricky if you’re doing a few bits and outside a slight issue as we arrived and didnt appreciate the couple of steps down into the garden area are quite high with gaps between… so our small dog who ran down in excitement stumbled down. But there is a gate there and we kept it closed after that. I’m sure any bigger dogs would be fine, it’s something to just be aware of. A great cottage and lovely holiday, we would be more than happy to stay again.

  • "It is extremely misleading to state that there is a free public car park nearby."

The truth is that there are a few spaces opposite the cottage that are always taken by neighbours. The owner is well aware of the problem and suggests parking illegally on single yellow lines as a solution. We found that not having access to the cottage between the hours of 9am and 6pm prohibitive, so came home early. Other than that, the cottage is nice enough. The sofa is very deep, so not very comfortable. Double bed was comfortable. Shower was good. Kitchen a bit small with very little work top space. A bigger fridge is needed. Garden ok. The surrounding area is beautiful.

Hi Amanda, many thanks for your feedback. This is the first time in 8 years that we have felt the need to respond to a review, but for the purpose of this excercise we will stay with the facts and not individual opinions. 1. There is free parking directly opposite the cottage as stated in the welcome email, this is purely on a first come first serve basis. This is a small residential town with residents, tourists and cars and provides the same challenges as most similar small towns in the UK. Number of complaints recieved in last 8 years - 0. 2. In the welcome email I made you aware of the restrictions of single yellow line parking, the choice is down to the individual and at your own risk. 3. I fail to see why you did not have access to the cottage between 9am and 6pm. 4. Brand new sofa, number of complaints - 0. 5. Yes the kitchen is quite small, but given that the building is a 200 year old cottage and the walls are over 2 feet thick, we are somewhat limited with our options for a larger kitchen location. 6. Standard fridge with small freezer is provided, number of complaints in the last 8 years - 0. Refer to item No.5. We do our best to provide quality accommodation for our guests and our overall score of 4.8 out of 5 suggests this. Whilst we welcome your opinion a lot of the comments are purely down to individual opinions. The description of the cottage provided by Sykes is extremely accurate and is also provided with photos to support this, so our guests are well aware of what they are booking. Property Owner

There is also a nice, quiet garden to sit and relax in. Set in the picturesque village of Dolgellau, it is perfectly situated for exploring that part of Wales with lots of walks and attractions nearby. Whilst the village is only small, it still has lots of bars and restaurants serving a variety of delicious food and drink. The host, Gary, was very helpful and responsive and the welcome pack, containing lots of lovely local produce, was most appreciated. Dear Danielle, I am surprised to hear that there was some discontentment with your stay at Bro Dawel cottage, due to the cleanliness of the cupboards and fridge not being up to scratch. We do give all guests our telephone number should there be any issues and would have willingly rectified any cleanliness issues had you called. However we did not get any such call! We pride our selves on keeping a clean & tidy house and would have happily and quickly dealt with any request for further cleaning. Regards the mattresses, thank you for your feedback, it is personal taste as to the type of mattress people like and we cannot please some of the people all of the time. The kitchen looks brand new and comes with a dishwasher, which gives confidence that the cutlery and plates etc. used by previous tenants, will be clean. The cottage has clearly had a lot of money spent on it and that is shown in features such as the central heating system. The bathroom has a fantastic digital shower (walk-in) with rain and handheld shower options. Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms with good quality bedding and furniture. The towels provided were soft and ‘bath’ sized. Again, something simple such as the softness of the towels is reflective of the attention to detail, that the owners: Gary and Lisa, provide. In the master bedroom is an en suite toilet and sink. I’ve not used the log-burner, in the lounge, yet, but I will. The location in Dolgellau is perfect with a very short walk to local pubs and restaurants for eating. We eat at The Ship Inn a couple of times – their Sunday roast was superb and very good value. The cottage has lots of brochures and guides on the local area. One of them contains 20 walks around Dolgellau – we did walk no. 15 today. Outside the cottage is a large decking area with stone BBQ. Not really the weather to properly use it in late October, but in Summer, it would be a great area to sit out and enjoy a summer evening. I love the size of the cottage. It’s in a narrow street with lots of other similar stone and slate cottages. Absolutely gorgeous. A perfect and relaxing break. I would absolutely book Bro Dawel again.

The cottage is gorgeously decorated and furnished to a lovely standard. There were some lovely touches like the nice bedding and huge fluffy towels and the cottage kitchen was well equipped. The owner contacted us just before with some recommendations of places in Dolgellau and surrounding areas and they were all excellent. The cottage is perfectly placed for walking into town within minutes and there are so many things to do locally - we especially enjoyed Barmouth beach, Cregennan lakes, Cader idris and the Precipice Walk.
