  • "After 2 traumatic years, this was an important holiday for us & Haimwood Bytake didn’t fail to live up to our expectations."

From the welcome basket, to the idyllic location & standard of property, this has been the perfect break - even the weather was wonderful. A petrol station/small shop & at least 3 excellent pubs/restaurants are within a short distance with larger supermarkets within 15 minutes away (at Bicton & Welshpool) were an added plus. The only negative thing was that the directions to the property were not wholly accurate, particularly in the unmarked lanes leading to Haimwood Byetake; the property would benefit from being clearly signposted at the entrance to the final lane in, as SatNav doesn’t take you anywhere near the property.

The added touch of Prosecco, milk, bottled water & a basket containing tea, cakes, breakfast jams & coffee was a lovely touch. The property is amazing with beautiful panoramic views & only a short drive from the nearby shops, pub, garage etc. The property is extremely well-equipped & very pet friendly. Beautiful walks, complete rest & relaxation was the key for us. Beds were very comfy & bed linen was fresh & clean. The added benefit of both bedrooms being en-suite was important to us. A beautiful weekend spent in this gorgeous property & I would highly recommend it. We will be returning soon, thank you David & Emma

The beds were very comfortable and the linen was top quality. The hosts were friendly and helpful without being obtrusive. There was a fire at local farm which knocked out the electricity supplies for a few hours. The hosts kept us informed and kindly supplied us with hot water for tea from their Aga. Lots of options to explore close by so seriously considering a return visit.

The property is spacious and well equipped, and the beds very comfortable. The heating too is very good. Wifi and smart TV supplied so fine for a wet day too. The long drive to the property is quite bumpy but fine as long as you take it slowly. The only thing I would like added to the property if staying in the summer would be some blinds on the south facing windows as the place does heat up quickly when the sun is out (an advantage in winter!).

The owners David and Emma are very friendly and recommended places to visit and things to do with our furbabies, they where always on hand if we needed them The massive glass windows where prefect to sit and look out at the breathe taking views of the the Welsh countryside had to offer. The dogs loved watching the chickens roaming freely around the property. Loved watching the cows/bulls coming and going each day, totally not fazed by people being around. Things to note: the cottage gets extremely warm when it’s sunny, there was a fan in the property to help, but due to the little mini heat wave we purchased a couple more to help. If you’re bothered by bugs, grabbing a couple of citronella candles will help to reduce the amount inside. All in all we loved the place, I would highly recommend staying here.

I can see that the main room can get very hot on a sunny day - perhaps some shading of the upper part of the huge window would be a good idea?

  • "This property is absolutely great."

It is located with working farmland surrounding, which means waking up to a rooster and sound of cattle. As an artist, I had plenty of opportunities to paint in the immediate surround. The property is also very dog friendly, with plenty of walking spots right out of the front door. The owners were very accommodating and friendly, going so far as to provide OS maps to help with nearby walks. The location is private with access only for the owners and whoever is staying. Having said that, I do think that the main windows need blinds. The welcome hamper (with prosecco) was a welcome and lovely touch. I will definitely be returning next year (or maybe even again this year!). Thanks for a lovely stay.

  • "We loved the barn, it was perfectly configured for us to holiday with a teenager."

She had her own space and bathroom. The surroundings were incredible and the barn has a superb view, even at night when we could see galaxies and planets with the naked eye. It was quiet and felt completely away from everything while being convenient for great days out in Shrewsbury and Ironbridge, Powys Castle and Chester Zoo. It was great for local fishing too. Our only issue with the barn was heat as the front elevation is glass and I have multiple sclerosis which responds badly to heat. The owners were friendly, with just the right balance of leaving us alone and checking we were ok. They brought us a fan for the heat and were always available. All in all we had a fantastic week and would love to return at a cooler time of year.

Very peaceful location with views and wildlife to match . Very close to everything in the area. The accommodation is comfortable and well equipped. Make sure you read the description, unlike me. It doesn’t have any single beds. Would of liked to of had some blinds or curtains on the front windows. It does get very warm in the day time. We would definitely come back. (But with a camp bed)

  • "Overall very peaceful and relaxing."

The hosts were friendly and welcoming, but not intrusive and gave us our space during our stay. Only issue we found was that on sunny days the living space can get quite warm due to the full height windows at the front and its South facing so gets the sun most of the day. Perhaps some form of partial screening might help. Other than that I can recommend this property for an enjoyable stay.

  • "The property itself is kept beautifully and equipped with comfortable sofas and beds; the personal touch of a welcome hamper and information about local walks was very much appreciated."

The views from the property are lovely and the setting is very peaceful. The orientation of the sofas are for the benefit of taking in the countryside views through the floor to ceiling front windows, but does make watching the wall mounted TV challenging - so you either sit on them sideways or would have to turn them around. The internet signal is variable which made watching anything online a little frustrating. We do feel the property description should be made clearer, particularly for dog owners as had we realised a couple of points we may not have chosen this property. For example, the photos and description do not make it clear that it is attached to the owners property and as such the driveway is shared, the garden area for the lodge is not secure and the owners have free roaming chickens - this for us meant having to keep our dogs on lead at all times outside of the lodge. It is in a rural location, surrounded by fields and rough tracks and the provision of an outside tap and a prompt for dog owners to bring dog towels would be advisable as whilst towels for people are provided, towels for dogs are not; we had the misfortune of wet weather on top of already saturated ground so this limited the walking we could do because of the muddy conditions and how muddy we and our dogs would have got. We had bought a dog crate, dog bed and dog towels with us but had we not, wouldn’t have felt the lodge sufficiently equipped for 2 dogs particularly given the reminders to “refrain from allowing dogs on the furniture including sofas and beds”. Aside from the two bedrooms there are also no curtains on the other lodge windows which we found added further challenge in terms of dogs waking at daylight, and from a personal perspective given the owners have to cross in front of the main lodge front windows to enter and exit their home, we would have preferred the option of having curtains or blinds to afford greater privacy at night and first thing in the morning. Being attached to the owners property also means the heating and hot water is controlled from the owners property. We found the lodge comfortably warm, and an electric fire is available in the open plan lounge area though we didn’t need to use this; we did however notice in the evening there was less hot water available. We would like to suggest a couple of additions to the property inventory which we would have found helpful as yes as described there is a lovely range cooker and cooking is something we enjoy as part of our holiday, but found a couple of things absent - a bowl and whisk for preparing scrambled eggs, a jug for making gravy, some microwaveable or oven proof casserole dishes and a cafetière. A significant mention should also be made of the lengthy unlit rural track you have to travel along to access the property. We received an email from the owners 2 days before arrival warning us that due to recent weather “a few potholes” had developed; there were certainly more than a few, several of them deep, and no means of avoiding them because they spanned the width of the track in places. Having recently had work carried out on our car including new tyres, this was not a welcome discovery and for us resulted in us only going out and returning to the lodge in daylight and navigating the track with caution. Whilst we appreciate this will be a costly repair for the owners, if unresolved needs to be made known at the outset, prior to booking, so that people can make an informed choice. These points aside, and given the wet weather, we nonetheless made the most of our week exploring further afield knowing we were returning to the comfort and cleanliness of the lodge. We have subsequently recommended it to friends, as if these suggestions can be accommodated, it offers good accommodation in a scenic location.

Our children age 5 and 7 enjoyed the company of the hosts children and their kind and polite nature. Hosts were extremely accommodating and communication was very prompt and informative answering all our questions and needs. Accommodation had luctury end touches such as hamper with essentials on arrival including bottle of bubbly, luctury bedding and towels, tastefully decorated trough out, fully equipped laundry room are only few to mention. Host house is attached to the annexe but they gave us full privacy and if anything we have fully invaded their space by taking advantage of their generosity in giving us the full access of the gardens and land surrounding the house! Location is idyllic, peaceful but yet close to amenities and attractions if you feel up for it! There is beautiful sunset to observe from the open plan living room windows and watch the moon rise and move around the property each evening! Overall I would highly recommend this stay especially for families with young children.

An added bonus for us were the animals all around like the cows and sheep behind the fence and the chickens kept on site, the children loved saying goodnight to them. The accommodation had everything we needed and we cooked lots of meals and the beds were very comfy. Below is where we visited whilst there: - Shrewsbury splash park and Sabrina boat ride - Hawkstone Follies Park - Flash leisure centre with (water slide) - Park Hall Farm - Powis Castle and gardens - Silver Mountain Experience The owners couldn’t be more helpful and answered any questions when needed. Quiet, safe, a mile away from the nearest road and nothing but tranquility. Our 2yr old son spent his time riding his balance bike around and rolling down the small grass bank. Our dog was also welcomed and was extremely comfortable with plenty of outdoor space. The owners live on-site and have dogs themselves. But they kept themselves out of view and their dogs were also always kept under control and out of the way, making us feel we had all the private space we needed. The property was clean and functional with lots of space and utilities. The internet is free, but it was capped while we were there. We ran out of wifi data on our last day. The other initial problem was that the huge glass frontage made the property unbearably hot when we first arrived on a sunny day. The owner quickly delivered an opening stick to get the skylights opened and also gave us a fan. The combination of which solved the issue quickly. Overall, we really liked the place and would recommend it to a family or two couples who wanted a quiet break with tons of outdoor activities available within easy reach. Shop and take aways are close too. Thank you for having us!
