"We had a lovely stay ."
The cottage is beautiful inside creates a lovely cottage atmosphere the bed was very comfortable we loved the lay out straight out into the back yard. The back yard was perfect with having our dog although he could have got over the small gate if he’d wanted to.
The kitchen facilities were perfect for us . The area next to a services garage we thought might be an issue but it turned out to be a plus just walking to buy what we needed.
The hot tub was perfect way to end a long day out exploring.
Not negatives but things that could be improved easily.
I would have liked more towels just 1 for a 3 day stay using the hot tub each day was not very hygienic the towels could be a bath sheet and softer.
Also the bushes to get in the back gate and side/front door were overgrown with brambles and bushes which getting my old English sheepdog in and out without him having bushes Attached to his fur was not easy well impossible actually. I got my hair stuck on one occasion.Very simply to trim them back so you can get in with ease.
We wouldn’t hesitate to stay again if simply take our own towels.
The dressing gowns were appreciated
Thank you for our stay

"The cottage was toasty and warm for our arrival, a relief after a busy day."
Everything seemed a high standard and the stocked coffee/tea station was a excellent plus. The cottage had washing up things, kitchen roll etc and the bathroom had loo roll. There were a couple of robes provided and a door from the bedroom to access the garden, to use the jacuzzi. You need to turn the lights on in the living room or else you are sat in the dark, but the fairy lights around the ceiling came into there own in the evening and cemented the cosiness. There was ample parking just outside our garden gate. We could have done with an information pack to tell us what to do with our rubbish. We didn't know where to put our bags at the end of the holiday. But there were bags provided so we could separate all our recycling and a compost caddy. The enclosed garden was good for our dogs, we felt they were safe when we tried the hot tub. The hot tub was a great asset. We have never used one before and it was a great introduction, sat with the Kites flying overhead. Although we will probably not try using one with dogs in the future as they just pined whilst we were out of bounds. The TV was a bit weird as it wasn't tuned to terrestrial channels. It only had live TV via apps, but we managed. The cottage was an excellent base to visit Elan Valley and we also visited Water Break-Its- Neck waterfall. There is a petrol station right across the way but it's not obtrusive. There's also an Asda express and Greggs situated there, just a minutes walk away, so we got supplies and the odd bacon roll during our stay.
The cottage was quirky and high quality and I would highly recommend a stay. It was a relaxing haven after our busy days.

Beautiful scenery next to the River Wye. If you have Dogs they will love the paths that’s around there that you can walk down. Definitely will go again.

"Overall a lovely cottage."
Sofa was a little uncomfortable. The lounge area was absolutely freezing even, when temperature was very warm. The kitchen was very well stocked with crockery and utensils except knives and the freezer compartment of the fridge needs attention . The hot tub was lovely great temperature and really clean. In summary a very decent place to stay whilst waiting for our house purchase to go through. To be honest we wish we had booked longer as we have stayed in some very unsatisfactory places since. We would recommend and had we been holiday makers we would have returned. Thankyou.

"The Searle is not really a cottage."
It is an apartment within a converted Pub. Had I known would not have booked it. extremely clean and modern decor. apart from the old disgusting dirty and stained bedroom curtains hanging off the rails. Also issues with lack of clothes wardrobe . The soot and water mix from leaking chimney stack staining the back wall of fire place. The kitchen had long term (see past reviews) breakages and missing cooking items. Self catering!!?? The outside in a state of neglect and dis-repair. Leaking hot tub . Owner switched it off. There is no garden. It is a concrete ‘yard’, with a trip hazard foot path from entrance gate. Secondary gate latch hanging off ….not pet safe. Render and crack damage around entrance door, walls and damp course level. Blocked (long term growing vegetation) rain guttering, creating a Niagara Falls onto path slabs . Sleep was impossible. Then I saw the Property for sale sign, since March 2024. I concluded this was a significant reason for Searle’s general dis-repair and the owners non- commitment to her property and her guests mental comfort. When sold it is somebody else’s problem. Three days in I had enough . left and returned home. Left comments in guest book , dated and signed . I text owner Sara Jay/Jane when home. To date I have not had a reply. I did not expect one . This standard is not what I expect from Sykes Cottages. Please see my account list of prev cottages and 10/10 reviews. Kind regards Michael Reid

"Having stayed at the Searle some 8 months ago,it seems a shame that little or no maintenance has been orchestrated at the property, the outside space is drab and uncared for with rendering and paint falling of the walls, as this
has an enclosed garden not the best surroundings when occupying the hot tub, inside the general condition was more favourable, however unfortunately the dishwasher had broken, offer of repair was there, but we left the owner to fix prior to next occupancy, the bedroom curtains had visible staining in the lining, maybe some of the above is not being actioned due to the property being on the market with local agents Chancellors, and the continuance of the property in total for getaways in doubt?"
Taking all of this into consideration we again overall enjoyed our stay Thank you.

"The inside of the property is well maintained, however, the outside is slightly run down and definitely needs attention, not the relaxing environment to take a hot tub."
The kitchen was not well stocked with utensils, pans etc, just the very basics and some of the utensils were dirty and we had to wash them before using.
The real downside to this property is the location. It is slightly set back from the very busy A road so you hear the traffic all day from very early in the morning. It is also right next door to a petrol station which is not mentioned in the description or in the directions received upon payment. Had we known this, we would not have booked.

"The cottage was spotlessly clean, bed very comfortable."
Kitchen was short on utensils, pots, pans and crockery. Hot tub was lovely, but outside space was tired and weedy. Rose arch so overgrown that it was difficult to exit. Area was beautiful for dogwalking.
