  • “The Old Cart House is a fabulous holiday base where all mod cons and comfort have been given lots of thought.”

Pete and Sarah were lovely hosts and we thank you for your warm welcome and most generous basket of goodies. We would love to stay with you in the future and will definitely be recommending your lovely cottage to others.

The property

Trefonen 2.7 miles.

Next to the owner's house on a working sheep farm, this beautiful detached barn conversion, The Old Cart House, has been carefully built, providing everything you could want in a holiday home.

Separated from the owner's farmhouse by a wall to provide you with your own space, you can find a property suitable for a small family or a couples retreat, with ample parking and some sheep as neighbours!

After you have reached the property up the single farm track, park up and head in through the glass doors, into the open-plan living space, with underfloor heating throughout, you will soon be warmed up.

Unpack your food in the kitchen and decide what's on the evening menu, before using the excellent appliances to cook a delicious meal in this spacious and well-decorated room.

Serve up on the dining table for a quality sit-down meal, and afterwards retire to the sitting area in front of the flat-screen TV, perfect for putting on a group-favourite film in the evening.

Downstairs is also home to a sparkling shower room, so there won't be any waiting in line for the bathroom in the morning.

Upstairs, discover the two bedrooms; a king-size and a twin 2' 6" which can convert to a king size on request, with the king-size featuring a door to the external staircase down the side of the house, as well as the family bathroom containing a bath with shower over.

Enjoy the use of wardrobes in each delightful room, with the property also benefiting from space to store bikes or a caravan.

Shropshire has a lot to offer and its popular town of Oswestry can offer an excellent selection of things to do in the form of shopping, restaurants and cafes while the surrounding countryside can offer historic sites and walking paths.

Visit the Park Hall Countryside Experience, great for adults and children, to say hello to the small animals, or feed a little lamb, with activities and events happening from Spring through to Christmas, it's a great day out for everyone.

Within easy driving distance is also the Snowdonia National Park to your west and the Shropshire Hills AONB to the south, which can provide a huge choice of outdoor activities, as well as incredible vistas and scenery.

The Old Cart House can provide you with walks and countryside on your doorstep for an excellent Shropshire break.

About the location

TREFONEN

Oswestry 3.5 miles; Llanhaeadr-ym-Mochnant 8 miles; Shrewsbury 24 miles.

Trefonen is a rural village which stands between the ancient English border town of Oswestry and the Welsh village of Llanhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, home to Pistyll Rhaeadr, the UK’s highest single drop waterfall. This traditional village boasts a pub, shop and has Offa's Dyke pathway running through the village. It is located close to where the successful 1995 film “The Englishman Who Went up a Hill but Came Down a Mountain” was filmed. The whole area is surrounded by lovely countryside, which extends into the Berwyn Mountain Range - perfect for wonderful scenic walks and cycle trails, including along the Berwyn Ridge Pathway, the Offa’s Dyke Path and through the beautiful Tanat and Ceiriog Valleys. Visit the riverside town of Llangollen with the nearby Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (a World Heritage Site), Chirk and Powis Castles and Gardens, Erddig and Attingham Park, or visit the nearby market town of Ellesmere. Further afield lies the Welsh mountains and coast and picturesque Lakes Vyrnwy and Bala, while the World Heritage Site of Ironbridge, medieval Shrewsbury and the Roman city of Chester are also within driving distance. Trefonen is an ideal base for exploring Mid Wales, Shropshire and beyond.
