Welney Shepherd's Huts

Welney Shepherd's Huts are a charming pair of shepherd’s huts resting in the fenland village of Welney, Norfolk, offering a relaxed countryside base for couples seeking a pared-back escape with nature on the doorstep. Set within the owner’s garden, these thoughtfully arranged retreats sit side by side, each providing a tucked away feel while remaining within easy reach of the village pub, making them well suited to friends holidaying together or couples travelling in tandem. Both huts feature studio style open plan living, with a double bed, dining area, and sitting space laid out for easy days and unhurried evenings. Interiors are simply presented and well organised, encouraging guests to slow the pace and settle into their surroundings. Each hut includes a kitchenette for light self catering, ideal for preparing breakfasts before heading out or enjoying a simple supper after a day exploring the fens. Outside, garden furniture offers space to dine alfresco or enjoy a quiet moment, with views across the owner’s grounds and the gentle presence of on site chickens, sheep, and a Shetland pony adding to the rural character. Welney is best known for the WWT Welney Wetland Centre, where expansive skies, seasonal birdlife, and walking routes across the Ouse Washes draw visitors throughout the year. Beyond the village, Ely invites exploration with its striking cathedral and riverside walks along the Great Ouse, while King’s Lynn offers historic streets, a traditional quay, and independent shops. Further afield, Cambridge provides cultural days out with punting on the River Cam, museums, and renowned architecture. Whether enjoyed individually or together, Welney Shepherd's Huts offer a welcoming base for discovering this distinctive corner of East Anglia.
