  • "Arrived on Wednesday ahead of scheduled check in time."

Luckily for us, Neil was close by and quickly introduced himself and allowed us early entry to Walter. The welcome pack was a really nice touch. Through out the bus, all the accessories and products were well thought out and of good quality. Loved the hob and the multi function oven . What a fantastic bus conversion. The interior is very well laid out and all executed to a very high standard. Clever use has been made of the various parts of the bus and a myriad of other reclaimed materials. Beautiful rough edged oak kitchen surfaces and shelves throughout. Tastefully and artfully decorated and furnished. The history of The Midden and its acquisition from the council is presented in a very well written and illustrated book by the original landowner. This makes for a poignant and humorous read. Outside, the patio is a good focus point to survey the Midden in all its landscaped and planted glory. The mound that becomes a sun trap in the afternoon until sun down on good days. The sunken garden is a delight and is quite probably heavily populated with fairies and pixies, though we never saw them ourselves. The three hens kept us well entertained and were quite happy to follow us about when food was on offer. The Midden is a haven for wildlife. During our three night stay, we were blessed by the presence of a Muntjac deer, a squirrel, a Robin, several overweight pigeons and an unusual blackbird with some white pigmentation patches. Each morning at 5 am a lone rabbit appeared on the mound and spent some time grazing and browsing. All in all a superb break in a beautiful setting. Magical

  • "Walter was such a find."

He has been successfully converted into a lovely quirky place to stay. Warm and very comfortable with everything we needed. Private area with a place to keep our cycles safe. Apart from one day of our five night stay we were cycling the area. It’s was lovely to return to the garden and wildlife and sit and rest in the chairs etc provided. The Wells Walsingham light railway halt can be reached by a very short walk through the camp site which was our day off treat. I had forgotten to ask the guard to stop the train at the Midden but luckily for us he remembered. A comprehensive folder with operating details and information about the area very useful. I would definitely recommend staying in Walter.

Hello Margaret, thank you for your lovely review. I am so happy you enjoyed your time on Walter and found the time enjoyable and restful. Wishing you safe onward travels. Team Walter Property Owner

  • "What a lovely, unique place!"

How often do you get the opportunity to stay on a converted double decker bus?! So many wonderful features, really comfortable, warm and just enough space for 4 of us (two adults two teens) and our springer spaniel. My only comment, and it’s more something for people to be aware of than anything is- the oven is a microwave-combi oven. Would have been fine had we realised before deciding what to eat on our first evening- took quite a long time to get some oven chips cooked enough to eat!!! I’m not sure if there’s space, but an air fryer would be really handy- possibly more useful than the microwave? Definitely the best short break we’ve had though; so peaceful, enjoyed a ride in the little train to Walsingham and we were so lucky with the weather too. I wish we could have stayed longer.

Many thanks for your review and comments Lucy. We are so happy you enjoyed your stay and we hope maybe to see you in the future. Thank you for the comments about the combi oven. Safe travels. Team Walter. Property Owner

  • "Question: Can two septuagenarians be thrilled and delighted at the thought of staying and sleeping on a bus?"

Answer: Indubitably. We stayed in "Walter" for 7 days and it was an absolute delight. Walter works his magic on you from the moment you see him. Set in his own space at The Midden, he provides a lovely haven for "getting away from it all". An excellent place for exploring North Norfolk, without travelling too far from him. We visited different places every day and non were more than a 40min drive. An added bonus was that The Midden has it's own railway station (rather a Halt), so a trip, to Walsingham and back, on the Wells and Walsingham Light railway was so easy. But don't forget to tell the guard to stop at The Midden. So, would we recommend Walter? Yes. Go for it. You will not be disappointed.

Dear Ben, thank you so much for the lovely review. We are so happy you enjoyed your stay. Furthermore thank you for the lovely carved characters. I gather you whittled them from Midden wood. Wishing you safe travels. Nicola and Team Walter Property Owner
