  • "We really enjoyed our stay here."

The view of the sea was a bonus to a great location. The accommodation is comfortable and had everything we needed. We loved being able to leave the car and walk, take the train or catch a bus to explore. We certainly needed more time to enjoy all the local shops and restaurants. We are already thinking about a return visit.

  • "We enjoyed our week at Ellan Vannin Sheringham."

The flat was very well situated for seafront and town. It is an older flat but the sitting room is comfortable and nicely decorated and we have no complaints about the bathroom or kitchen. The heating system seems efficient. We were fortunate to have fine weather, but it was cold and windy a lot of the time. The designated parking space to the rear of the property is a great boon. This was better than expected as not shown on the illustration.

ideal location with parking - a big plus here. Property a little dated but has everything you need. Bed was fine, don't know what others had been complaining about, few maintenance and cleaning issues but nothing that distracted from our stay, good sized TV and bath towels could do with a standard lamp in the lounge. Overall would recommend

  • "Ellen Vannin is in a prize position but is let down by the lack of cleanliness once you step inside."

Don’t think it had been cleaned from previous holiday makers. There is a very fusty smell inside the cottage and especially in the bedroom which seem to be coming from the bed base and the two fitted wardrobes. The kitchen floor was sticky underfoot, handles on cupboard doors were greasy, the cooker hood filter was very dirty and made the kitchen smell. We had to wash cutlery and crockery before using it. Grout between shower tiles could do with a good scrub. One good thing the bed linen on the bed was pristine. Light bulbs need checking as there were a few of them not working. We have stayed in a lot of holiday cottages in Sheringham and this one was rather a disappointment. ,

Underneath bowl disgusting , mucky cutlery drawer ,I sorted that & few similar things . Kitchen floor sticky . Mould on shower ceiling , no shower basket . Bed uncomfortable , no light pull on right side . Carpets need shampooing, edges don’t look touched ! TV aerial a hazard - I placed piano stool over it to make safe ! • "Ideal location with a good sea view from the lounge."

The property is warm and holds the heat well. A space for the car was a bonus as there are lots of double yellows in Sheringham. Ideal for Norfolk coast walkers, just minutes from the walk. Plenty of eating places nearby, the Copper Whelk does a lovely breakfast. The pubs cater for the usual pub type food. The Mullberry Bush restaurant does some tasty dishes at reasonable prices and probably more nutritious than the pubs.

Thank you so much for your kind feedback and we hope to welcome you back to Ellan Vannin ! Property Owner

Was not suitable for christmas holiday generally dirty the cleaner needs dismissal seems to be left dirty fom last visitor broken seat / dirty seat on dining suite disgusting hostess trolley in lounge piano stool dusty (very) inside this property could be a good let if the owner took more care would use again if the above was rectified disapointed

Poor address instructions - Thank you for pointing this out. We have revised and updated address instructions with Sykes and we hope this will provide better guidance in 2023. No recycling/refuse instructions - There are instructions for recycling and refuse in our ‘Welcome Folder’ Good shower but needs further grab rail - We believe one grab rail is sufficient for entry/exit to the shower, and have never had requests for another one. Poor kitchen utensils - We have taken note of comments by previous guests and have added/replaced many new items as requested eg new colander, new cheese grater, etc. We have also ordered some egg cups as per your request Useless hoover - we agree this is an old one and has been replaced with a new one. Carpet in lounge reqs full cleaning - Please understand that It is not always easy to find a few days in between bookings to deep clean the property. As such, we rely on the cleaning company to clean as best as they can during change overs. We confirm that a deep clean has been done recently. Seat/dirty seat on dining suite - Again, we rely on guests to inform Sykes immediately upon check in if anything was damaged, broken, not working or dirty, in order for issues to be rectified. In your case, we understand from Sykes that you did not inform them of your dissatisfaction with the property and only reached out to them a month after you checked out. So to be fair to us, there really isn't anything we could have done to make your stay more enjoyable. Disgusting hostess trolley in lounge - This is an antique furniture piece. It is old fashioned, but we wouldn't call it disgusting, however, we have decided to remove this from the flat going forward. Piano stool dusty (very) - This is an antique piano stool. We have checked and agree that it was the inside of the stool that was dusty. Again, we can't expect the cleaning company to be cleaning the insides of every drawer or cupboard due to their limited time and can only do these during the deep cleans. Thank you for the feedback. • "Musty smell in living room and bedroom."

Kitchen needs updating. Fridge and kettle ok. Microwave disgusting, filthy and rusty inside, needs replaced. Cooker, temperature of oven seems lower than it should be, needed turned up higher than recommended for the menu. Rug in kitchen, not the sort of floor covering suitable for a kitchen, also grubby. Bed very comfortable and clean. Net curtain has a tear in the centre of it. Bathroom clean and good shower, lovely towels. Central heating excellent, very warm. Entrance door has mould down the hinged side and across the bottom, carpet black, damp must be getting in. Other door at frontage on building also has mould along the bottom of it, floor damp. Living room: mouldy on front and sides of the very old looking Philips hostess classic. Mould on the corner TV table and in an awkward angle which is not fitting the corner space. So if TV is sitting at the same angle as the unit you cannot view it correctly from the position of the sofa. The corner display unit cannot fit in the opposite corner because of the radiator. Plus, its rear leg is broken and the unit is resting on a pile of books! It should removed from the property. Under the radiator at the bay window the skirting has brown stains running down it and black mould on the radiator pipe underneath. Carpet would benefit from stains being removed and a good clean. Carpeting throughout would benefit from the same. Stuff stored behind piano, an old large empty picture frame, also covered in mould. On the morning of our departure a lightbulb in the living room exploded, the glass has been cleaned up but it is possible some fine shards may have been missed. The bulb fitting was left in the fixture. Our sincere apologies for not alerting the owner to this. The instructions for the keysafe are inaccurate as many clients have pointed out and a correct description needs to be published on the booking site. The keysafe is not to the right of the door, it is on the wall opposite the door with the No.1 on it., so as you face the door the keysafe is behind you. I would not book this property again, it falls far below the standard of properties available through Sykes Cottages that we have booked previously. Great location with off-road parking is the only selling point at the moment.

Musty smell in living room and bedroom. A deep clean of Ellan Vannin has been undertaken in February 2023. Microwave disgusting filthy and rusty inside. We have purchased a new microwave for 2023. Rug in kitchen not the sort of floor covering suitable for a kitchen also grubby. This item has been removed. Net curtain has a tear in the centre of it. Thanks for pointing this out. This is in fact the third time our net curtains have been ripped during 2022 by our guests. This has now been replaced with a new net curtain. • "We really enjoyed our stay in Ellan Vannin, it's in a great location, has lots of space - in the lounge particularly, and was clean and tidy."

We also liked the large TV. The only minor criticisms we would have is that there was accumulated dust behind the bedroom chair and on the tops of the bedroom lights and in a few other such spots throughout the flat. Also the net curtain in the bedroom was badly ripped where someone had opened the window without lifting the curtain aside. We would definitely visit again.

  • "Having seen some of the reviews left by others I did wonder how clean the property might be."

In practice everything was fine if not quite to the highest standards expected by the most critical of reviewers. We have over the years hired similar flats and cottages with this one not the cleanest but very much better than many. Many of the things one might criticise probably reflect the point in the season as it is obviously impossible to perform deep cleans of every nook and cranny within short changeover periods. Previous criticisms of window cleanliness also seem to be a price paid for the sea views with sea mist seemingly sticking atmospheric dust to them very quickly but as it's ground floor very easy and quick to resolve if one wants to. For location and convenience the flat offers much and is comfortable and spacious even if the pricing policy is a little odd as during peak periods it appears to be far dearer (before discounts) than some of the excellent B&B's in the area.

  • "While the location cannot be beaten and the General conditions were acceptable."

This property was let down on three fronts. The entrance doors and windows appear never to have been cleaned. A contractor once a month would present the property in a more favourable light for arriving guests. The equipment in the kitchen was poor. Simple things like a cheese grater, a coffee cafetiere, lemon squeezer, and a number of things you would expect to find in a well equipped kitchen. The worst thing was the listing of internet but in practice it was rubbish. The owner is not responsive to phone calls about it after my first call I was just ignored. So needing the internet all week and having little or none was to say the least frustrating. Your listing should be honest and say internet/Wi-Fi not reliable. If you need internet on your stay DO NOT hire this accommodation.

The flat is well located with a view of the sea. It is spacious, with an excellent standard of decoration and comfortable with the exception of the bed which is very hard rather than firm. My only real complaint is twice being ignored when trying to contact the owner via the mobile number given. The first issue luckily sorted itself out but the second, losing wifi and thus the smart tv, just had to be tolerated.
