  • "Lovely cottage in an ideal location."

The stairs were not for the faint hearted but added to the quirkiness of the cottage. It was clean and homely and we loved it.

  • "We have stayed all over North Wales, but never in Borth y Gest, so thought we'd give it a try."

When we arrived parking in front of the property was very limited, probably due to it being a sunny Saturday, but we had no further issues with this during the week. The property was very clean, and ideal for us (three adults and two dogs). We had everything we needed, including a decent supply of items such as toilet roll and dishwasher tablets - some places I've stayed at provide one of each... The views from all the front facing rooms are just amazing; it's such a peaceful bay. The heating was very efficient, so efficient that we turned a few radiators down. We didn't use the downstairs shower, but the upstairs bathroom was just ideal considering the small size. We didn't use the washing machine, but the dishwasher was spot on. There are only two issues that I'd like to mention: 1. The fridge/freezer desperately needs replacing, the door seal is past its sell-by and the door on the small freezer falls off each time it's opened (I mentioned this to Michael, the fab housekeeper, and he assured me that this is being replaced very soon). 2. The first few steps up to the tiered garden were really slippery and put us off using the area - shame, as the garden area is gorgeous. The beaches nearby are amazing, especially for dogs, and it's only a fifteen minute walk into Porthmadog. I'd definitely stay here again.

  • "The house did not supply a vacuum cleaner, broom nor dust pan and brush."

A must for any holiday let, but especially if the house is dog friendly. Apart from that the place was very clean and comfortable, although we did find it pretty small for the 4 of us plus labrador. The back garden was an excellent bonus for dogs, as well as getting the evening sun and beautiful views. Borth-y-Gest village was lovely, very peaceful and a good location.

Hi Mr Ward We're sorry you couldn't locate the vacuum cleaners it is kept under the bunk bed in the back bedroom. I will edit the information pack to indicate where it is kept. There is also a brush and pan in the boiler room cupboard at the back of the property. Again we will edit the information pack and hope this did not unduly affect your stay. Property Owner

  • "Tried to contact someone the week before our stay to make cleaners aware of an extreme allergy to scented cleaning products."

Just went round in circles from one website/telephone number and couldn’t even leave a message let alone speak to anyone. The phone number you provided (saying it was the owner or owner’s representative) was just a recorded message from Menai Holidays where it wasn’t even possible to leave a message. Also the bedding was highly scented and I couldn’t use it. The smell was so bad we almost left after one day. Hopefully if I’d been able to speak to someone things wouldn’t have been so bad. Narrowed the smell down to the carpets so had to spend my time sitting in dining kitchen where there weren’t carpets. We have travelled the world over past 40 years and have never had this problem before. As the cottage accepts dogs, was wondering if a spray or ‘shake and Vac’ is used on the carpets. If this could be rectified, would like to stay at cottage again as everything else was good. But really in case of serious problems with property, the guests should be able to speak to a human, the fact that you can’t is quite worrying.

Hi Mrs Morley. Thank you for your kind and complimentary review. We are sorry your stay became so stressful but I am at loss to understand how our normal cleaning process could have been changed to accommodate your specific allergy. I am confused as to what "scented" cleaning products are actually defined as but as far as I am aware the cleaning of the bed clothes uses nothing more exotic than ordinary detergent and fabric conditioner. To accommodate your specific requirements would have required an individually cleaned set of bedding, something that would need to have been requested at the time of your booking on January the 16th earlier this year You also mention the carpets and again no special products scented or otherwise are used to clean the carpets. We also obviously have no control over any scented products previous tenants may bring with them so as you can understand narrowing down the specific product causing you so much distress could be extremely difficult. I will check with Sykes regarding your attempts to contact them. In all my dealings so far I have always been able to leave a message or talk to somone direct. It is very gratifying that despite your distressing allergic reaction you would still like to revisit the cottage. Micheal who cleans the cottage is an extremely diligent and professionally experienced hygienist. He has a 4 hour window every Saturday in which to complete this task You will I hope understand that guaranteeing an allegen free environment as well would be a task we may find impossible to achieve. Best wishes for your further travels Property Owner

!) I really didn't want to come home yet again and can't wait to book again for later on in the year!!

  • "We had a lovely stay at Ivy Cottage."

We were travelling as 2 couples and had a four legged friend with us as well. There was plenty of space for us all. The cottage was and clean and inviting. The bedrooms are a good size and having 2 shower rooms with toilets worked well. There were plenty of utensils for every day needs and dishwasher and washing machine was useful. The cottage is situated with beautiful views across the bay. It is perfectly positioned to walk to nearby Porthmadog and also towards BlackRock Sands, with its stunning beaches. There are a couple of eateries within yards, and although closed for our January break, we have eaten in them before and highly recommend. There are some really friendly venues in Porthmadog which you can easily walk to day or night via the cut through at the end of the bay. We had food at The Ship and Tafarn Pencei both nice meals with good choice on the menu, and the Australia is great for real ales. So to sum up a really lovely well equipped cottage in a pretty location with easy access to local amenities in heart of Snowdonia.

The view was terrific! House was really comfortable and welcoming. Always helpful to have supplies of toilet roll and handwash etc already at the cottage - we really appreciated this. We would definitely book again. No photo of the single room on the website. Garden was quirky- imagine it’s great in the summer. Thanks.
