  • "The house could be very nice & is in a nice location but it isn’t in a great condition - it was damp and just needs attention."

The upstairs toilet didn’t flush properly. The dishwasher started leaking. The kitchen & general facilities were quite basic & unfriendly - especially for a family. The owner requires occupants to remove rubbish and recycling from the property after the stay & has no outside bins which is a huge hassle. The owner was apologetic about our experience but wouldn’t recommend this property for families - esp those with young children.

Sorry you did not enjoy your stay. You called to report the toilet in the afternoon and I called back the following morning but you had already left the property. A plumber did visit but could not find a fault, The plumber said the seal on the dishwasher was off so not sure how that could have happened. We ask guest to remove their rubbish or use the local recycle due to the private bin collector unable to get under the bridge at the end of the road. Skyes have the details on the website regarding this please see below. Once again sorry you did not enjoy your stay but we do have regular guests who rebook every year. Note: There are steps leading up to the property, so may not be suitable for those with mobility issues Please note: Guests need to dispose of their own rubbish, black bags will be provided Property Owner

  • "Let’s start with the pros- great location and stunning views."

Large spacious bedrooms and overall spacious property. Cons- Cleanliness is far from satisfactory. I will usually keep my shoes off inside my home, but with this property my socks were so filthy after removing shoes, I kept them on downstairs. Cobwebs everywhere and dust etc. The house felt grubby and unkept. I asked Sykes for the beds to all be made up as doubles, they had not done this and denied I had ever called. I have the call log as proof of this. We then had to go out and buy a double sheet to do this ourselves. In terms of crockery, staying over Christmas especially, meant we had to go out and buy more pans etc, No wine glasses and 1 Prosecco flute. The only glasses provided were short tumblers, not even big enough for a decent glass of squash. Very poorly stocked kitchen. There is only a slimline dishwasher which isn’t great for this size of property, however as there are only 7 large plates, 7 bowls,7 side plates, 7 forks, 7 knives etc then the slimline works fine and is just used multiple times a day. More crockery and a larger dishwasher would be more cost effective. There is no washing machine or dryer, though there is a gap in the units in which they could be placed, instead this just makes the kitchen look unfinished with a gap showing a void, where there is no skirting and just gaps to the brick wall. Fridge space is limited with 1/3 fridge and 2/3 freezer, poorly thought out for a holiday let. Large bedrooms but only a hanging rail and no wardrobes, no drawers in which to put away clothes. For weekend stays, this wouldn’t be an issue but those staying longer may want to unpack. 2 large bathrooms but only one 800mm by 800mm shower cubicle for 7 persons, the first floor bathroom could accommodate a shower over the bath and the ground floor would have benefited from a larger shower, my 9 month pregnant daughter could barely fit through the gap due to the corner opening doors. There was also no mirror in this bathroom. When using the toilet on the ground floor it is not fixed securely to the floor and moves from side to side. The external steps are extremely slippery and dangerous and one of our party fell down the first flight. They really need to be maintained in terms of jet washing off the algae. For the final straw, all rubbish is required to be removed from the property. With a 6 hour drive ahead and Christmas rubbish from 7 people this made for a very stressful morning hunting around locally for bins that could take the rubbish. We would have never been able to fit that amount of rubbish into the car, nor would it have been a very pleasant drive home to do so. Day before departure, I was keen to give the place a hoover and found a Henry with no accessories, just a hose, so was unable to do so. Would be a good idea to provide guests with this option. I asked the owner if they were elsewhere in the property and was advised to use the dustpan and brush. On the final morning whilst opening the oven the handle came away in my hand. I contacted the owner who asked me to ask the neighbour for a screwdriver to fix it myself, I had already checked out by this point. Staying in multiple properties over the years at Christmas I would have at least expected a tree to be up, this was disappointing but more of a nice to have. Overall great house with great potential but felt very unloved, dirty and little thought to the holiday let useage.

Thank you for your comments which will be looked into. The house is professionally cleaned and I would have welcomed images of the 'cobwebs everywhere, dust and dirty sock' so I could inform the cleaning company. Everyone celebrates Christmas differently and for that reason we welcome guests to bring what ever they feel will make the house welcoming for them. I informed you before you went to the property that a Christmas tree would not be provided giving the option to bring your own. Regarding the oven handle you broke I made the suggestion for you to ask the neighbour for a screwdriver because it sounded like you were concerned and wanted an immediate fix. We ask guest to remove their rubbish or use the local recycle due to the private bin collector unable to get under the bridge at the end of the road. Skyes have the details on the website regarding this please see below: Please note: Guests need to dispose of their own rubbish, black bags will be provided. Property Owner

  • "Positives..."

Very spacious, warm, well furnished and is in a good location. Shop, play area, pub and Chinese all in walking distance. Food at the Red Lion was very good. Negatives... No bin bags provided despite the listing advertising black bags would be. Soft beds. Lots of uneven and slippery steps leading up the property. When arriving in darkness outside lights were not switched on so it was very treacherous especially cartying luggage. No open fire despite this being advertised on the listing. No mention in the handbook of what to do with rubbish and recycling so we had to take it home with us. Condensation on most of the windows meant we couldn't enjoy the lovely views. The property is old so this is to be expected, but a window vac could help with this.

  • "It was a lovely holiday a few things needing looking at is the loo upstairs don't flush well and there are some bits that could do with a paint the stairs leading to the house can be very slippery when went."

. also please note that there is no washing mashine in the house sadly that was a big must for me but we worked it out .. Other than that it was a lovely place was lovely and welcoming people in the pub down the road was lovely and fun the house was old fashioned which I loved very much xx

Thank you for your review. Sorry for the inconvenience regarding the toilet not flushing properly, we will have this investigated. We do not provide a washing machine and therefore it is not on the list of appliances. We are glad that you still enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

  • "Second time staying at this property and we love it."

It's extremely comfortable and spacious with beautiful views and close to essential amenities. On arrival, the house was clean and it was unbelievably helpful to have washing up liquid, a tea towel and sponge. We had brought our teabags, sugar and milk, however there is a lovely little box with pouches in if needed. N.B last year everything was great, but this year we had issues with the downstairs shower drainage. We had to keep our showers very short as the water did not drain quick enough and was at risk of overflowing after 5 minutes. Not a criticism (we've already booked for next year) but just to maybe get it looked at. We tried to run water through the outside drain and cleared muck that gets stuck in there, but that didn't help.

Thank you for your kind review and so glad you like to revisit. We hope to make everything perfect for your next stay. Property Owner

  • "Our family group of 7 had a wonderful stay in this property."

The house was spacious and well furnished. It felt cosy and comfortable. It would have even better impressions if the porch was bit more clean and free from some cobwebs. We had some issues with the main key on second day but the owner on the phone was very nice and helpful. Also it would be better if more bigger size pots and pans were provided as we struggled with the ones those were there. Overall we had very pleasant stay in the property.

  • "Wonderful family weekend in a great property."

Stunning surrounding area with nice outside area, only downside was the outside furniture which was a bit dated. The kitchen could do with a few more bits and pieces but still served us well. Super comfortable beds and plenty of downstairs seating. Overall an amazing stay and would definitely recommend.

Thank you for your kind feedback. We are happy that you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

  • "Beautiful property with wonderful views."

Upon opening the front door, we realised we had arrived home and were visualising our own belongings in the house. It was spacious, clean and had a good feel to it. Our girls had already moved in, by dressing their room with toys, crafts and cuddly teddies. There is an easy stroll to local shops, pubs and a children's play area, which was very handy. There are steep steps up to the property, but if my mum can handle it, so can you, and my mum could trip over fresh air. The front garden was nicely kept, so much so, we released our newly emerged butterflies, where they enjoyed the juicy plum trees. To the rear there is a lovely patio area where we stayed most evenings. There could be a mirror in the downstairs bathroom or a washing machine to wash all those dirty clothes, but that's just picky, it was a truly awesome holiday and although we had fun on our day trips (yes, I'm now skint) I really loved coming back 'home' at the end of the day. I would recommend staying at this property and we will be coming back again soon.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback. Glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to your return visit. Sorry to hear about your mother but glad she was OK. Property Owner

  • "Lovely house, very clean, It is quite step intensive, but this is in the description, My 75 year old mother, found it a little hard going, but did manage with her stick."

We did find the kitchen lacking a few essential items, like scissors, and deep sided oven doses and baking trays, but we managed to improvise. And the small glass patio table, for a Kitchen table? Which only fits 4 people, the house sleeps 7, It feels like the house was rushed to get out on the holiday market, but isn’t quite there. But the main issue for us is the beds. The mattresses are very uncomfortable, when you move about you can hear and feel the bed springs moving, most of us never really got a descent nights sleep at all, and the lack of furniture in my bedroom especially ( small top bedroom) was a challenge. But it’s ok cause every room had a massive chair in it, which is just what you need, rather than a chest of drawers, or a wardrobe. All that said, it’s a lovely house, and with a bit more thought, it could be spot on. Oh yes, an extra shower over the bath would be a good idea too, one shower between 7 people just isn’t enough.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback and noting the house was very clean. We will ensure a mirror is added to the bottom shower room. The challenge was space due to the sink being in front of the window but will will look to address this with a face mirror at least. We have a separate dinning room which seats up to 10 people. The small table in the kitchen is just a good will gesture. Sorry to hear you did not have scissors or baking trays they should have been in the set of draws opposite the cooker. I will check this with the house keeping. I can assure you the property was not rushed and sorry you felt that way. The beds are high quality medium support to cater for all visitors. Property Owner

Chest of drawers in the bedroom would also be a plus and wine glasses in the kitchen. Everything else was very good

Thank you for your comments and glad you felt the majority the accommodation was very good. We will seek to add a face mirror in the downstairs shower room. Wine glasses have already been added so thank you for bringing that to our attention. Property Owner
