The Old School

Wonderful house and gorgeous garden.

Another fabulous holiday in The Old School. We love: the well-equipped (and organised) kitchen with plentiful appliances; the large family bathroom (in addition to the ensuites); comfy beds and sofas; the effort that has clearly gone into creating this beautiful, stylish holiday home and garden; Glenys' Garden View. Never had a problem with parking - always finding a spot, less than a minute's walk from the house, on a quiet road. Conwy also has good transport links - by bus and train. 10 minutes(ish) walk into the centre of beautiful Conwy - with a great selection of cafes, restaurants and pubs. We also had the added bonus of enjoying the strawberries we picked from the garden! How lovely. Thanks again Alan, Pam and Glenys - we loved it!

This was our third stay at The old School at Gyffin, Conwy last week.

Beautiful property, spotlessly clean and very well equipped with a beautiful enclosed garden. Excellent fish & chip shop within one minute walk. Also the Castle View Bar & Restaurant at nearby Deganwy has a very good fish offer on Tuesday evenings for two persons (£27).

The Old Schoolhouse was a lovely comfortable home perfectly equipped for a Christmas stay.

The beds were comfortable, plenty of sofas with cosy throws and lovely atmospheric gas log fires. Together with the Christmas decorations in kitchen and lounge it was perfect! I would have given 5 stars however the property needed a good cobweb clean! I appreciate double height ceilings are awkward however cobwebs were also present in the en-suite bathroom. Having said this I would definitely stay again if we were going to Conwy.

Our stay at this beautiful house was most enjoyable .

My Sister and I found our rooms very comfortable and the garden is lovely for her 2 little dogs. The car park where we put our car was a minute’s walk away. As we have a “no cooking rule” when we go on holiday the choices in Conwy, the local chippy an 2 minute walk away and Ty Groes Inn were all we needed. The facilities are all there though if you need them. The Old School is very quiet, beautifully furnished, very spacious and yet so homely. We will definitely visit again in the future. Anita & Sue

The Old School House is exactly as described.

It’s been lovingly restored and we found our stay really comfy and convenient for Conwy (15 mins walk to the town centre) and the surrounding areas. The owners were very attentive - we notified them that there was a low battery sign on the door entry system and within 2 hours they sent new batteries! The garden is delightful. The kitchen is well equipped with a huge island table for eating or playing games. The music centre was great in addition to the TVs. If we were to stay in Conwy again we’d definitely look at re booking - especially in the summer months so we could enjoy more of the lovely outdoor garden spaces too.

Anyone arriving at The Old School House will no doubt be impressed with the conversion the owners have done to this fine property.

We really enjoyed our stay there. Although there is no allocated parking, we found that this wasn't an issue due to easy parking within close proximity. There are a couple of things we think could enhance staying here; 1. Lighting in the living area is not particularly good for reading. Wall lights and lamps seem to be all on one side. 2. No footstool. 3. There is a lack of storage in the bedrooms. Whilst space is not ample in the ground floor bedrooms, we felt that better thought could have be given to enable a wardrobe to be incorporated. 4. Also, lack of storage in the rear ground floor ensuite. The above issues would not stop us from staying at The Old School House again. It really is a nice place. I particularly enjoyed using the cooker and my wife loves the kettle! Dogs loved the garden (and so did we). It's obvious great thought has been put into this! Congratulations to the owners for creating such a lovely place!

This was our second stay this year and all was very good at the Old School House.

Everything was presented both indoors and surrounding gardens in first class order as we had experienced during our first stay. To sum up a lovely peaceful place to stay and all within a 15 minute walk into Conwy town.

The Old School House was absolutely perfect for our family get together.

The kitchen / living room was wonderful and had everything we needed to feel at home. The outdoor space is really special with lots of different seating spaces available, sadly the weather wasn't the best but we did enjoy the undercover area. Thank you so much for our stay.

We've just returned from our stay at The Old Schoolhouse and throughly enjoyed our holiday even if the weather didn't smile down on us as much as we hoped!

We've stayed in a lot of holiday lets/cottages/lodges over the years with having dogs and its so nice now that this standard of accommodation is available to dog owners, times have definitely changed!. When I write a review I try to tell the truth, not niggle etc at the slightest thing which is easy to do,we thought it was the best accommodation we've stayed in and had not one thing to complain about.Everywhere was spotlessly clean , beds were very comfortable and the kitchen met every requirement you wanted.Garden area is fab and our dog had the time of his life zooming about.The Old Schoolhouse is a credit to its owners.

A brilliant stay in a lovely holiday home, perfect space for socialising and the garden is fabulous

We were grandparents and parents with 2 boys 6 and 3 The garden was amazing for exploring for boys and super area for grown ups to relax So close to Conwy with a lovely walk in And the weather was amazing

The Old School is a lovely peaceful place to stay and has been exquisitely renovated to a beautiful residence with a lovely garden.

Great fish & chip shop and a well stocked local store both within walking distance. Conwy town and castle is also within walking distance along a pedestrian path. We were lucky with the weather and visited many local places. We look forward to returning in the not too distant future.

Fabulous property, the main kitchen and lounge were amazing.

Eveyone had their own bedroom and en suite. Several different areas to the garden, long dining area, gazebo. Our dog loved exploring the different areas of the safe garden. Parking nearby and safe. Local chippy 2 mins walk, very good. Historic churchyard opposite. 20 mins walk into central Conwy. Excellent holiday venue

The Old Schoolhouse was exactly as described.

Well presented, scrupulously clean and a flexible and comfortable living space for us during our stay. The conversion is really well done and a delight to enjoy. The only downside was parking to drop off, as the listing clearly stated, but this was manageable and parking just a couple of hundred metres along the main road. The location very good for the main town. Overall, fairly priced and very much recommended.

The Old School is beautiful - inside and out.

We loved the well-equipped (and organised) kitchen, along with the comfy beds and sofas. The family bathroom is fabulous. The house is wonderfully spacious but also cosy. Loved the little nods to the building's origins too. It has a record player! How lovely. :-) We have never stayed in holiday accommodation with such a gorgeous, well-maintained garden (with a choice of 5 different seating options). We were lucky that the sun shone every day - giving us the opportunity to spend lots of time enjoying the beautiful flowers and shrubs. Thank you Glenys - we are so lucky to enjoy your skills and love of gardening. Thank you also to the owners of The School House - we really appreciate the thought and love that has gone into creating this wonderful holiday home. We'll be back next year - for 2 weeks. xx

A perfect stay in a perfect cottage (although "cottage" doesn't really do it justice given the amount of space).

Great kitchen, comfortable bedrooms and lots of lovely outside space and seating which we were able to use as the weather was so good. No car needed (we don't drive) as all amenities in easy reach; just a ten minute walk along a footpath to the town.

We always love it there and enjoy the garden and Conwy.

... with the Billy Bonus of one of the best Fish and Chip shops I have ever experienced, a one minute walk away!!!!!! .... and one of the best Italian restaurants I've ever been to in Alfredo's. Thanks

Absolutely stunning cottage in an amazing location.

Conwy is only a short walk away. It is about half a mile to walk into the centre and can be done mainly off road which was great for the dogs. The enclosed garden was amazing for us too. The seating area at the back was lovely for a morning cup of coffee outside. The cottage is well equipped with everything you would need for a week away. Highly recommend a stay here and would come back in a heart beat.

A fabulous house.

Spotlessly clean with quality utensils, comfortable beds and enclosed garden for dogs. Alan and Pam are first class communicators and it is obvious they care for the house at all levels. Within walking distance from Conwy. The house is spacious and at the same time cosy and warm. It is sensitively and beautifully decorated, respecting the history of the house. A real bonus for us was having the dogs and having an enclosed garden. I highly recommend the Old School house. It has all the comforts and amenities that one would wish for. Great credit due to the owners.

plenty of room for a family of 6, the kitchen was well equipped, plenty of room to relax after a day out exploring around Conwy. Would highly recommend this cottage it was an enjoyable cosy home to make memories .

Well what can I say, I cannot praise this property highly enough.

We’ve just spent a wonderful week here as a family of 5 with two dogs and had the most amazing week. The property is absolutely stunning and it is clear that a lot of love has gone into the renovation. It really is a jaw drop property from the stunning outside to the beautiful interior. The gardens are simply stunning with ample outside seating areas, which I would imagine are glorious in the summer. Wonderful fully secured gardens which the dogs adored. We were more than happy to while away the evening within the home which catered for your every need and was ideally planned to gain maximum family time. The kitchen was amazing, two fridges, two ovens, two , two microwaves which made preparing and cooking food a pleasure, and the only property we’ve stayed in to have both a washer and a dryer. The honesty fridge is a fabulous idea especially for my husband. Comfortable sofas and plenty of space for all. All bedrooms with comfy beds and two with en-suites. The interior whilst maintaining the original features was also modern, so well thought out with the little touches such as the vinyl record player which took us back a few years. I could go on and on about this property but if you are considering a trip here then go ahead, you won’t regret it. Ideally situated for a steady 15 minute walk into Conwy and ideal to explore other towns. The owners were exceptionally helpful and on hand at all times. Well done Pam and Alan what an amazing place. We look forward to a return trip and certainly recommending to all our family and friends.

We had a very comfortable and enjoyable week at the old schoolhouse.

The property is extremely well laid out and has been renovated to a very high standard using quality materials, fixtures and fittings but keeping empathy with the original use of the building. The garden is beautiful and great for outdoor eating and relaxing. It’s lovely to explore the pathways and little sitting areas in between the beautifully landscaped borders, creating privacy from the surrounding properties. Lovely also, to be able to walk into Conwy from the house and take footpaths to Conwy mountain and other walks in the area without using the car. Excellent all round and very much enjoyed by me and my family.

An amazing space to share with family with great facilities both inside & out.

We were blessed with the weather & able to sit outdoors. The honesty fridge is a great idea although we didn’t use it as we were unaware & took our own. Checkin & out are quite tight especially for longer trips. No high chair or option for a cot makes travel with a toddler more cumbersome with equipment. Double microwaves & fridges allow for ample storage & cooling (if necessary). Huge kitchen counter allows for eating & playing board games - we enjoyed sitting as a family together around this space. We did find empty biscuit wrappers & plastic drink bottle tops under the bed & actually in the bedding of one bedroom. The vertical blinds to the downstairs bedroom did not draw & two of them appeared to have come off the ‘runner’ The ceilings are really high & beautifully reflect the school classrooms but really need to have a good de cobweb along with the lighting. It’s a beautiful listed building & close to amenities a perfect short stay.

A beautiful property in a great location.

We were very lucky to have good weather which made it even better after a day out we could go back and enjoy the beautiful garden, such a lovely social space and family meals together in a lovely well equipped kitchen. Group of 6 adults and dogs who holiday together every year, found this property to be well equipped and very clean. Would definitely recommend, thank you Pam and Alan for sharing your lovely home.

One of the best cottages we have ever stayed in!

Great location. Done up to a very high standard. Attention to detail. The fully stocked wine and beer fridge is a lovely touch. Comfortable beds. Close to amenities. Betws-y-Coed is a short drive, and a lovely beach less than ten mins drive by the marina. Lots of nice places to eat in Conwy itself which you can walk to, by the castle.Very welcoming hosts. Garden is a great spot for a morning coffee and to watch the world go by. Fully enclosed so the dogs can run around freely and carefully landscaped so you can just enjoy looking around it. We will definitely be back!

Enjoyed a lovely family holiday in this comfortable house.

The garden was beautiful with plenty of facilities for barbecues, unfortunately we did not have barbecue weather. I would definitely recommend this property.

Very clean and everything was provided for a comfortable holiday. The house retains some of the original features which we loved. The garden was great and the undercover seating area is a great idea, if the weather was better would have made use if it. Would definitely book again.

Fantastic house and the garden is huge!

We stayed over Xmas and had a great week (really appreciated that the owners put up Xmas decor so we didn’t have to bring things with us), and can imagine it’s amazing in summer with all the outside space. Plenty of space for 5 of us and 2 dogs, very well equipped kitchen, really well decorated everywhere, lovely comfortable bedrooms downstairs with en suites and the main bathroom was a great size. You can tell a lot of work has been put into the place and it makes for a very pleasant stay. Everything was perfectly clean and tidy, I think you definitely get what you pay for. Location is also great, just a 10 minute stroll and you’re in Conwy town which we all loved.

Had a lovely New Year break here with my family.

The Old School House is perfect in every way. Pam and Alan have catered for your every needs. Weather could have been better, but our plan was to make use of the comfort of the house. The kitchen is amazing - great for entertaining. Would highly recommend this accomodation. Our furry friends enjoyed it too.

This property is star quality.

It is spacious, comfortable, location is convenient. This cottage has all the amenities and attention to detail to ensure a homely feel is top notch. Even the full wine and drinks fridge is a welcomed touch with an easy pay as you go approach. Have stayed in numerous places this one is the best by far! Cannot wait to return in the summer to enjoy the well manicured garden and outdoor seating areas. Communication is excellent. Highly recommended and we will be back. Massive thumbs up

The Old Schoolhouse is a fantastic property and we had an amazing time.

The property is finished to a very high standard and is very comfortable and well equipped. The outside space is wonderful and despite the weather we found we were able to sit out. The kitchen is brilliant and we stayed in most nights as it was a pleasure to cook and sit in. It is only a short walk into Conwy which has some great bars , restaurants and shops. We ate at The Jackdaw which was a real treat and is a place for a special occasion. There is a brilliant butchers, cheese shop and several bakers. The owners were fantastic and made sure we felt at home and provided a welcome pack. We would thoroughly recommend The Old Schoolhouse , it is the best property we have ever stayed in and did not want to leave.

We had a great time the house was beautiful everything we needed We loved the fact that we could walk out the gate with our dogs and with in minutes we were in an enclosed dog field then safely walk into Conwy The garden was beautiful and we were lucky enough to have some decent weather so we we’re able to sit and enjoy it We had a slight issue with the WiFi when we first arrived but this was due to Vodafone and not the equipment.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Old Schoolhouse, and would definitely recommend it to others.

The property was spacious, well equipped and very clean, the external areas and enclosed garden was excellent, allowing our 4 legged visitor to wander around exploring the various areas securely. Conwy itself is a lovely area to explore with a couple of dog friendly beaches nearby which we visited on a number of occasions.

Excellent stay for our family and dog.

Great big open space to spend time together. Excellent garden for us and the dog. Perfect location - the precise parking instructions were appreciated.

I was looking forward to staying here as I have family friends who worked at the school in the early 1970s.

and whose daughter attended the school for a couple of years. And I wasn't disappointed. The property was immaculate, spotless and very clean, as well as very well equipped. The beds were very comfortable, although for me, the quilt was a little thick for summer, but that's a personal preference. The showers were excellent and there were more than enough towels. We were pleasantly surprised to find a large washing line, plenty of pegs, an airer, and a tumble dryer. It's amazing how many supposedly 'well equipped' places don't provide you with anything to dry washing and you end up with it draped over radiators and chair backs! The only gripes we had were minor. There were no kitchen scales, so when cooking I had to guess quantities. There was also no ladle or large serving spoon, which made serving food a little awkward. But there was plenty of cutlery, mugs (and wonderfully large mugs at that!), plates etc. Again, in our experience, it's amazing how many places have just 4 of everything. The kitchen was also very dark in the evening and at night, as the main overhead light was missing, presumably waiting to be fitted. There were plenty of other lights, but sitting to eat in the evening at the wonderful island unit was a very dark affair. However, our biggest gripe was that the internet failed on the Sunday morning and never returned. Whilst I appreciate it is very much a 'first world' problem, our grandson is autistic, and the presence of internet and his ability to be able to access his online world is very important and is a major factor in where we choose to stay. Fortunately, he was able to access the internet most of the time via my mobile phone, but it wasn't quite the same as he had to be near to me to do that. The lack of internet also meant we couldn't utilise the large Smart TVs to their fullest extent by logging in to Netflix or Prime; the poor and patchy TV signal in the area made it almost impossible to watch the TVs normally. Would I recommend The Old School as a place to stay? Yes, definitely. Will I go back again? Yes, more than likely.

Hooks would be great to keep the doors open, no internet for the week but Alan did try his utmost to get it up and running.

Couple of lights not installed at high level but a beautiful place to stay and they take great pride and care in the place and it shows throughout. If you’re looking for that something special and something different this is a lovely place to stay. Visitors book would be great as not only will this give feedback for Alan and Pam this also helps visitors no good places to go and to eat. Also other places we have stayed have given a welcome hamper which always comes across as a nice gesture even if secretly put into the price. Such things as a bottle of wine and local produce such as fresh juice, local milk from dairy farms, duck eggs, choc just a few little bits that we always remember from previous cottages we have stayed at. I must reiterate though that it was a beautiful stay. Bodnant garden is a lovely dog friendly place to go and erskine arms and castle view are nice places to go and eat and also dog friendly.

The owners have really thought about everything you'd need for a week away. Beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were lovely. Would highly recommend for older families or couples. It's only a 15 minute walk into Conwy. I think the only downside I could think of is that there's no parking, but we didn't struggle to park on the road nearby. Overall we had an amazing holiday here, thank you.

The Old School House has been carefully and tastefully renovated into a remarkable holiday home.

Lots of inside space well furnished and decorated. A modern shaker style kitchen with more than enough appliances to feed 2 or 3 families ( e.g. 2 microwaves and 2 fridges). Beautifully maintained garden with a large patio area complete with seating invites you to sit out in the sun, G+T/beer in hand (from the "honesty fridge" if you don't have your own supplies)!

A great holiday home!

Awesomely clean and with an excellent garden for relaxing. Surprisingly close to Conwy town centre which is just a short walk across the park.

What a fantastic house -we had a wonderful stay and were lucky to get the weather too.

We took advantage of the gorgeous gardens that are sunny all day with comfy spacious seating area. The owners have thought of everything in the house - it was spotless and plenty of crockery, glasses, cookware etc. The beds were very comfortable with good quality sheets and duvets/covers. The bathroom and ensuites were great - lovely powerful showers. The interior of the old schoolhouse has been tastefully decorated with lots of nice pieces dotted around - a lot of love and care has gone into this house for sure. Located outside the castle walls - we found it easier to drive into the town - only a few minutes drive and very easy to park. A younger group could easily walk in and out but we were a middle aged bunch of lazy bones :-) If you are thinking about booking - just do it - honestly you won't be disappointed.

The house is well located for easy access into Conwy and although the gardens are very well maintained, they are overlooked by the neighbouring houses. The kitchen was well equipped but we couldn't understand why there were two exact same microwaves!? We really enjoyed our week's stay in the Old Schoolhouse and would highly recommend it.

The Old school is a lovely place to stop in Conwy.

We were impressed with the location being so close to the action for village life, the rich history of Conwy castle and the close proximity to Llandudno and of course visiting Mount Snowdon. The interior of the property definitely had the WOW factor… A few small issues for us were: One of the bedrooms faces the road and the windows were very high up and were open and made the room cold and every time a car went past or birds sang their Dawn chorus it woke up my little girl. There wasn’t an option to close the windows but this would have solved the issue for us. There were also no instructions around bins or recycling but I messaged the owner regarding this! Other properties usually have a welcome book with instructions so this may have been useful here. A fabulous place to stay with ample room for 5 of us plus a small dog!! The only other thing which people need to know before booking is there’s no parking at the property itself. This can cause issues at times as this can be a busy road (especially whilst we visited) there are some new build properties being developed a little further up the hill and we often had to be careful as big lorries tried to squeeze down the road. The owners say you can park in free car park down the hill past the chip shop but it means your car is quite a distance from the property and one of our party was disabled so this was not ideal. Taking all into consideration though you will not be disappointed with The Old School. It is beautiful and it is a credit to the owners Pam and Alan and the little touches such as tea, coffee milk and biscuits were very welcomed. A perfect first visit to Wales.
