  • "This is our 3rd stay now at this property, it is in an amazing position overlooking the sea and mountains."

It is well equipped with comfortable beds and just a short walk to the beach. This year we saw Dolphins at Porth Neigwl (Hells Mouth), that was a very special moment!

  • "The property needed tlc in some areas."

Shower room in double was water damaged, door had no internal handle. Couldn't get hot water in shower. Main bathroom old fashioned. The whole place needed some decoration. No indication that freezer was in cupboard on top of washing machine in entrance. Freezer is in dire need of defrosting and is in danger of falling through shelf onto washing machine. However, kitchen well equipped, lounge really comfortable and an excellently situated property. Water lovely and hot. Though shabby in places, cleanliness bedding etc. excellent. Would certainly consider visiting again.

Very convenient for beach & has all the facilities you could possibly need for a family holiday. Thank you, thank you for sharp knives in the kitchen. As someone who likes to cook this is the first accomodation I've ever seen with a decent selection of knives for cooking!!! Might need to update bin instructions, couldn't find them at first. They are a bit tucked away behind the garages. We wished we had booked to stay longer.

We did find the stairs up to the lounge hard work, perhaps due to the fact we are 67 and 73. We found it very dark at night , it was a short walk to the car and there were no lights on, the apartment had no outside light, and being November we seemed to be the only people staying in that part of the complex so there was no lights coming from other properties. We did have a small torch but I didn’t feel safe walking this path at night ,perhaps again due to our age.

  • "The property is in need of a deep clean."

The general work surfaces and appliances in the kitchen were OK and main bathroom amenities and towels/bedding, but throughout the house, there was a general build up of dirt and dust that has obviously not been touched in months, with cobwebs everywhere. You simply had to look at skirting boards, around window frames or under/next to any piece of movable furniture to see that these had certainly not been cleaned prior to our arrival. In the current time, it is inexcusable for cleanliness to be in question and given that Sykes sends a lengthy email prior to departure about cleaning round the house prior to departure as guests (fair enough), there can be no excuse for the house not to be spotless for new arrivals, especially at the price charged. I had text the owner a day after arrival to raise this issue and sent multiple photo examples. The response was apologetic and she arranged for the cleaner to return. However, on the cleaner's return, instead of addressing the whole property, only the specific photo examples were wiped over (this included filth blocking the extractor fan in the shower, sand and food remnants under and around the sofa and dirt along rails and the stairs). After the cleaner's visit, we heard nothing from the owner to check if we were happy with the house. After already messaging the owner on day 2, it became apparent that the ensuite shower was blocked and again, should have been noticed prior to arrival when being cleaned. Either the cleaner did not clean properly or simply did not care about the issue. We did not wish to spend our holiday going back and forth on these issues, so made use of one shower and enjoyed the beautiful view from the terrace - this is stunning and was the best part of our stay. The house otherwise is in a nice location and has decent appliances and amenities for a family stay. After our departure, I had a further exchange with the owner and in short, she implied it was our fault if parts of the house were dirty or a shower drain blocked because we did not specifically raise it point by point. A complaint of a generally dirty house should not ever have been required- does Sykes not require properties to be at a certain standard of cleanliness ? It was a real shame as with a deep clean, this is a cute property in a lovely area with a spectacular view.

Thank you for your comments. We take great pride in the cleanliness of our property and we are sorry that you found some dust behind a wooden table and on an extractor fan in a cupboard with an external wall. We arranged for the cleaner to reattend as soon as you made us aware and thank you for the pictures. The cleaner also removed the crumb from underneath the sofa lip and checked the staircase spindles for the spider you saw and ensured there were no cobwebs. The threshold at the bottom of the wardrobe was also recleaned for you. We responded to you by message on several occasions and we arranged a reclean of any area you had advised us of during your stay, as soon as possible, at a time convenient for you. We of course have received the Sykes Cottages covid cleaning guidelines for properties and we apologise if due to the cleaner concentrating on high density touch points for guest safety, this resulted in some non touch points in unobtrusive locations being missed at the time. Regarding the shower drain, occasionally properties can have an unforeseen maintenance issue but as we were regrettably not made aware of this until after your checkout, we were unable to assist with this at the time. We are sorry that we were not given the opportunity to address that at the time. As soon as we knew, we reached out straightaway to subsequent guests at the property to check they were ok and to discuss if a drain clearance was required. We're glad that you enjoyed the location, appliances and amenities. Property Owner

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and would happily stay there again."

it was helped by the fantastic weather though! The location is great and the house is ideal for a holiday stay. Bedrooms are roomy and it comfortably sleeps 6. The upstairs, in particular the kitchen is quite compact but has everything you need. The view is absolutely stunning and it was great to just relax on the balcony. The only issue I would raise is that the balcony table only has 4 seats and the house takes 6 people. Also it would be a squeeze to have 6 adults upstairs if the weather wasn't great and you had to stay inside. We were two adults and 2 tall teenage boys and it we managed perfectly well. We would love to return.

  • "The place is a great location and it was clean."

However I would like to suggest a few things that need to be improved:- Wallpaper hanging off the ceiling in the hallway not good Bath panel broken Beds too soft and one slopes so not the best nights sleep. Overall I think the place needs updating quite a lot as I imagine when it was first done it was lovely and you could freshen it up to make it lovely again. I do not believe it was worth the money we paid but that was due to peak season, you could get a lot better accommodation for that price in the same area. Overall though we had a lovely time, it is a great base, the owner was lovely, balcony view lovely, just decorate it again, replace the mattresses, and get rid of musty smell and it would be perfect.

Many thanks for your feedback, we are sorry that you had some disappointment. We do provide two contact numbers in pre arrival information and are always happy for guests to contact us with any concerns. Sykes Cottages also has a dedicated helpline for guests staying at their properties. I can confirm that upon receiving your feedback after your stay, the wallpaper was repaired and the bath panel was checked and remedied. The property was checked for any odour and while none could be identified, fabric material was refreshed/replaced as a precaution. Unfortunately mattresses can be quite subjective according to individual guest requirements but again, we will always try and resolve any issue if we are made aware of it and we are sorry that we were not given the opportunity to do so for you at the time. We are also planning some further refurbishment and we are thrilled that you found your arrival welcoming and enjoyed the balcony and views. Property Owner

The property itself was clean but I am disappointed to have to report some negatives. There were 4 of us and we had expected to have 2 bathrooms, but the shower in the en-suite was not working The owner said that someone should have been to fix it on Friday morning but they should really have checked that it had happened. There were no basic products on arrival i.e. toilet rolls, washing up liquid, tea-towel, just basic cleaning products in general. If we had been informed that they would not be provided then we would have ensured we took them with us. I have not stayed at a property, as yet, where these were not provided on arrival, most owners have even provided a welcome pack. The bin top was also broken. I just think it is the attention to detail that makes the difference and feel it necessary to report it.
