  • "Great holiday home and location."

Pity about the lack of towels and the time the hot water takes to come through. Still has lot of, possibly now not required, Covid information and instructions in various places. Only one one set of keys and not the two mentioned in the information sheet in the kitchen area. Overall we would be happy to return in the future.

  • "There was no coffee machine and the cuttery was minimal."

The house itself was lovely and the location is super.

Thanks for your feedback Hans and we’re glad that you liked the house and location. We don’t have a coffee maker, though there is a cafetière for making fresh coffee. I will check on the cutlery, I thought we had plenty so it’s possible that some has disappeared. Property Owner

  • "We had a very enjoyable stay at this apartment."

We had rescheduled twice due to the pandemic so we were glad to finally make it! The apartment was warm and cosy with a spacious, well-equipped kitchen. The shower pressure was excellent. There was also a very nicely put together list of things to do in the area. The location is great as it's right in the centre of town but very quiet. We would love to stay here again and are actually thinking of returning in the summer!

Thanks for your feedback Martina. We’re glad that you finally managed to get here and that you enjoyed the apartment and location. Hope to see you return soon. Property Owner

  • "We had a really nice week in Porthmadog."

The location of this apartment is excellent, and we'd definitely return to Porthmadog itself for a future holiday. On the whole the apartment was as advertised, spacious, and well-equipped (minus essentials in the kitchen like salt etc), however we did question why we needed to bring our own towels since we were asked to put bed linen in a degradable bag at the end of the stay anyway (with a "threat" of a £25 charge if we didn't do this). Covid seems like a bit of an excuse here, and it's not ideal to have damp towels to deal with at the end of the week. The parking on site was really handy, and we had no issues, but wondered whether it was actually possible to manoeuvre into/out of the designated space should their have been cars in the adjacent spaces. Overall a nice place to stay for a week.

Thanks for your feedback and we're glad you enjoyed your holiday. We must apologise regarding the out of date Covid sign, which mentions an additional charge which no longer applies (this has now been removed). Unfortunately, due to Covid we were unable to provide towels for the last two years. We are currently reviewing this with our housekeeper and we hope to be able to supply towels soon. We do hope that this didn’t detract from the enjoyment of your stay. Property Owner

  • "Lovely place to stay - check in instructions were great - well equipped kitchen - perfect base to explore the area- bit disappointed that no towels were provided- especially when bedding - tea towels etc were provided!"

Covid seemed a bit of an excuse. We also only had one key to the property - Could also benefit from a hairdryer - otherwise had a great weekend break thank you.

Good to hear that you had an enjoyable weekend at Bwthyn Llechen. Apologies regarding the towels, we are reviewing this with our housekeeper and hope to be able to provide towels soon. Property Owner

  • "Our 2nd stay at this property and once again it was great particularly as the weather was extremely good as well."

Not sure why but we couldn't find any keys for the french doors and it would have been nice to be able to open them.

We’re glad you enjoyed your holiday. Apologies regarding the French door keys, they will be moved to a more prominent position. Property Owner

We had a fantastic time. This is a lovely little apartment with everything you need, not much to do in the local area but the apartment Is great.

  • "This property offered everything you know and expect from a Sykes cottage."

It was clean, comfortable and well appointed. The weather was not good however, due to the lovely, spacious accommodation, we were able to stay comfortably indoors when the weather was too bad to go out. This location is tremendous, right on the harbour and seconds from the high street, and you can also see the steam trains from the window! It is also a great centre point for visiting the beautiful surrounding area. Whilst there is no garden for dogs, there are quick walking places (and lots of bins) right outside the complex and lots of walking opportunites close by. All in all, a lovely break. This is the second time of staying within the Oakleys complex (2 different properties, both via Sykes) and we would not hesitate to recommend it.

  • "Good accommodation in excellent location."

Great for the dog too if you do not mind the fact there is just a communal courtyard outside. Not an issue for us, but might be for some. Shaver point did not work in bathroom and we have never seen a toilet so close to the wall... !! Facilities ok in view of covid restriction

  • "This apartment is well located, has all the facilities needed."

However this is not a pet friendly apartment, no enclosed garden as the courtyard opens out onto the car park.

  • "Overall the accommodation was fine, although one toilet roll was not sufficient for a week."

The private courtyard garden is not ideal for dogs and is tiny. If taking a dog it would have to be on a lead outside.

  • "Thank you for a lovely stay."

The location was beautiful. We would like to give a few bits of feedback: the toaster is temperamental and looks fairly old/used- there is a knack to using it which some guests may find frustrating (I did initially!). The heating and shower were both amazing. Beds were comfortable and fresh and clean. Overall apartment was clean and well stocked. The kitchen table seats were very uncomfortable.

  • "The apartment was spacious and clean."

Location was excellent , tucked away near the harbour , very quiet at night - yet all the towns facilities were close by. It is the small details which mean the most, plenty of coat hangers , a non slip mat to use in the bath/shower and a nightlight near the bedrooms. However, please note , no hairdryer ! The weather was superb , which does really help, and the cafes and pubs did their level best to get round this difficult time . We used the trains , the coastal route to Aberdovey and the Ffestiniog railway-we had to have our own carriage , which was great.!

The location next to the marina and on the Welsh Coastal footpath made it excellent for walking to Borth y gest beach and onward to Black rock sands - All round a great place to stay and the owner was a pleasant person to deal with on the two occasions I had contact Will stay again

  • "When we arrived my wife had to clean the place and this took over an hour to do."

This our fourth time of visiting and the cleanliness no-where matched the previous times. The floor needed cleaning and mopping, cooked food was left in the sink, toothpaste marks all over the floor, the cutlery was dirty in the drawer, crockery stained The bathroom pedestal smelt of wee around the base and the so called 'clean' towels were very badly stained and smelt musty. Unless the quality of cleanliness improves we probably wont go back again. We feel very sorry for the owners who have always had an apartment to be proud of. Regards Mr & Mrs S. Morrison. Anglesey

Thank you again for providing this feedback, due to which we have changed our cleaners from 5th October to ensure that this doesn’t happen again. Property Owner

It's very enclosed and dark and could get too hot as well.

We take our guest feedback extremely seriously and we’re disappointed to hear that you found our holiday home too hot - there are two sets of keys for the patio doors and the heating is totally controllable by all guests but thank you for your feedback Property Owner

The property

Bwthyn Llechen is a holiday apartment in a pretty, Grade II listed building nestled in the quiet back streets of Porthmadog on the Llŷn Peninsula.

Formerly the Slate Wharf manager's house for the Oakley quarry at Ffestiniog, it has now been carefully converted, retaining its fine exterior, into a relaxing, contemporary, spacious holiday apartment all on one level (great for wobbly knees and hips!).
