Description
2 Aqueduct Cottages is a wonderful semi-detached cottage located right on the canal towpath, just a hundred yards from the Chirk Aqueduct running high above the River Ceiriog, which forms the border between England and Wales.
Dating from 1847, this former Victorian wharf man’s cottage seamlessly blends character features alongside modern fixtures and fittings to provide a holiday home of real distinction.
Head up the stairs to find three comfy bedrooms, two of which look over the canal, where you will also find a family bathroom.
On the ground floor, the cosy sitting room boasts a roaring open fire, whilst to the rear of the cottage is a modern and well-equipped kitchen next to a dining room, as well as a shower room.
Step out of the back door and you will find a beautiful lawned garden with both a patio and a decked area, where you can sit and relax as the canal boats chug quietly past.
Stroll out of the front door and you immediately become a member of the canal boat community.
Turn right and within a minute’s walk, you find yourself on the Thomas Telford-designed Chirk Aqueduct, which takes you 70 feet above the Ceiriog Valley into North Wales.
Turn left along the towpath and down the road, and you will soon reach the Bridge Inn, where a warm welcome awaits.
The small town of Chirk has a delightful selection of shops, cafes and pubs, as well as being home to Chirk Castle, a magnificent National Trust-owned medieval castle which not only features many fascinating historical artefacts, but also boasts fabulous gardens and woodland.
Situated on the Welsh border, guests at Aqueduct Cottage can easily access the North Wales towns of Llangollen and Bala, as well as being just a short drive from the Roman city of Chester, famous for its racecourse, Roman Walls and the world-famous Chester Zoo.
A superb base for a holiday that you will never forget.

What guests are saying
The most wonderfully located, picture perfect cosy cottage, warm and welcoming, and with super comfy beds!
The welcome hamper and milk in the fridge was a bonus, and we were very grateful indeed! The cottage had everything we needed for an autumnal break. Good quality furnishings, bedding and towels! Definitely recommend, and will book again!
The property itself is charming.
The fully enclosed outside space is very good and was perfect for our dog. The downstairs of the cottage is homely and a great size. The upstairs was quite small and the stairs very steep but again, very comfortable. The downstairs shower room looked a little tired but perfectly functional (if a little small). Overall the property was excellent and spotlessly clean and the location is perfect for walking and added charm being so close to the canal/aqueduct. We would certainly return!
We very much enjoyed our stay.
The cottage was in a fantastic location and we able to walk into Chirk across the Aqueduct in the evening. The cottage was very well equipped and had everything we needed for a relaxing week.
