  • "This was a second visit to Fox’s Den, since we enjoyed our first visit so much."

The property is well maintained, and where there was superficial damage to kitchen facia, the owner provided a message board indicating that the whole kitchen would be refurnished at the end of the year. Having met the owner during our previous visit, I have no doubt that promise will be fulfilled. The local area is beautiful viewed in all directions, and the view from the adjacent viaduct is one worth visiting several times per day. Fox’s Den is a great base for coast or countryside explorations, or simply to relax. But with magnificent scenery in all directions, who wants to relax.

  • "A nice place to stay, very comfy beds, in fact the best we have ever slept in."

I agree with someone else who said the setees were not very comfy. A very nice welcome pack but did think the biscuits could have been replaced with milk. Lovely walk in to Whitby along the cinder track. Best way to get into Whitby as car parking very pricey. If ever came that way again would stay again..

  • "What a lovely property that is very well positioned for access to all the coastline."

It’s a nice 20-30 minute stroll into Whitby over the viaduct (which I’d recommend rather than trying to find parking!) The house is exactly as listed with very comfortable beds & a nice powerful shower over the bath. Yes the kitchen is a little tired but it certainly didn’t affect the use of any of the appliances or being able to cook a meal. I definitely don’t think it warrants a mark down in the score of this property or a negative comment. The owner has left a note to say it’s being renewed at the end of the season. I already have friends that have booked it on my recommendation & we will definitely return in the future.

Susannah , many thanks for your wonderful feedback and your latest rebook . We look forward to having you back as soon as possible . Our renovations start in November and will include a new kitchen , kitchen floorand downstairs toilet . We would love to have you back next year . Den and liz Property Owner

Perfect location, walking distance to Whitby and Ruswarp. The house was very clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated. We would definitely stay here again if the rear garden was enclosed as it wasn’t very dog friendly. My fault as I didn’t read the reviews thoroughly enough. All in all we had a brilliant time.

Thank you dawn for this wonderful feedback . We do hope you return when our renovations are complete and enjoy our upgraded Fox’s den . Thankyou once again . Den and liz Property Owner

  • "Unfortunately when we arrived the radiator was off the wall in the kitchen and just left in there."

The oven sealing was broken and the heat came out through the sides. There was a note about a guest having an accident with the oven, but don’t think this was the part affected. The extractor fan didn’t work so the windows and doors had to be open when cooking. The extractor was not working in the bathroom either. The shower also had the incorrect direction on it, so on first use the water sprayed everywhere. The settee was also very uncomfortable. However, the bedrooms were very clean and comfortable and the location was fantastic. This is the 8th time we’ve stayed on this development but the first time at the foxes den, property just needs a bit of TLC. We did have a lovely break.

Hi David and Thankyou for your feedback which is important to us . Regarding the radiator issue , due to a past customer sitting on the radiator which then broke the fixing brackets and not informing us we were unaware of the issue until recently. As the radiator required to be disconnected we are at the mercy of our trusted trades person who unfortunately could not attend as quickly as we thought, many apologies for this . I can now say that this problem has been resolved and we apologise it this was unsightly and caused issues. The oven s rubber seal has been replaced with a new one however the oven still remains an issue especially if customers use it at its maximum setting . The oven is to be replaced in October during our full kitchen renovation we have planned. The extractor fan appears to be faulty and I will accept full responsibility for this , please accept our apologies , again this is due to be replaced. Bathroom extractor needs replacing I agree , this will be done during renovations , the window will open but is not ideal I agree. Regarding the shower head being replaced in the holder incorrectly I will speak to our housekeeper regarding this . We have never had a complaint regarding the settee however I will take this on board and will consider a replacement going forward. We always value constructive feedback so Thankyou for your valued comments which will be acted upon . We hope to welcome you back later in the year so you can see the progress we have made . We love it; the cottage is exactly as listed, and it's a great location for days out. There's lots for all ages in the local area. Among other things we enjoyed shops and entertainment in Whitby itself and activities at Dalby Forrest. The owners were really helpful; there was a lovely welcome pack when we arrived, including something for the dog, and they were very accommodating about an error I had made with the booking.

I spoke with the owner both by telephone and face to face, and found him to really care that the guests thoroughly enjoy both the property and also their holiday. Walking my dog over the viaduct following the Cinder Track was a sheer joyful experience as the scenery is wonderful and there is always something new to observe. I have visited Whitby several times from boyhood, but even though I am now 80, I learned many new things about the town and its history. One day, I hope to come back, but I may need a wheelchair!

  • "Had a great time at fox's den."

Couldn't of asked for a better holiday home. Everything there you could possibly need. Very clean and comfy and lovely to have a small garden and patio area on the front for the sunny days which we had most of the week! The cinder path is great for a walk into Whitby, it was about 25 to 30 minutes depending on how fast you walk but it doesn't seem that long as it's a flat walk on the viaduct then through the woods. Sainsbury's 2 minute drive away. The only thing we didn't like was the drive up through Ruswarp, very narrow winding roads but that doesn't impact on how good the fox's den and the setting was. We've been to Whitby on numerous occasions but this was by far the best, the fact that you have a parking space and a garden are big ticks. Will definitely be returning. Thanks for the lovely welcome pack too!

Thankyou Louise for that fantastic feedback. You are always welcome back at the Den any time . Look forward to seeing you again very soon . Foxy Property Owner

Kitchen very well equipped and the fairy lights in the kitchen are a lovely touch kids loved them. House spotless has lots of quality accessories and furnishings, beds and pillows extremely comfy. Great to have two toilets when you are with other family members. Location is perfect very peaceful car park just outside local to Whitby Scarborough and Sainsbury supermarket up the road. We had two children with us a 2 year old 1 year old and a dog, the back garden is not secure the dog was ok he loved the garden the toddlers kept doing a runner to the park given the chance once they knew where it was perhaps a gate at the end on the path between the home and the end property as the bottom one was secured, could work which would not restrict access to other properties. That said I would definitely book The Fox’s Den again as it has everything we needed and more high chair and safety gate were requested and we got. I had communication all the time from Sykes to the owners all relayed back with online chat. There was no mention of an iron of freezer it has both a very large fridge freezer in fact big enough to take our on line Tesco shop which arrived 1 hour after us. Sykes have been amazing throughout I’ve had constant email updates from start to finish as well as my online chat in between it’s been a real pleasure to have booked with them we will definitely recommend Sykes and will use them again in the future and Den and Liz for letting us share their beautiful home.
