It took ages to find even with satnav as it’s not visible from the road . No private garden area so unable to let my dog out without being on a lead Enclosed small area would be preferable .

Wonderful location within a designated area of outstanding natural beauty and perfect for exploring the local market towns, some great local walks and even a trip to Filey or Whitby on the coast. There were a couple of very minor issues which the owners Rob and Claire were able to sort out almost immediately. This was our second stay in The Bothy and hopefully it won't be the last.

Rob and Claire the owners live onsite in the main house and were incredibly friendly and welcoming but also valued the visitors privacy so the setup works very nicely. The cottage is very spacious and has all the facilities you’d need. The heating and wifi works great. The location is lovely and you can easily get to lots of amazing places for walks or visit the shops in Malton. Would love to return at some point!

  • "A wonderfully relaxing break in the quiet village of Swinton in the Howardian Hills."

Stayed here for two weeks as refugees from a kitchen refit and enjoyed it immensely. Rob & Claire were perfect hosts and gave us several useful tips on enjoying the area. The Bothy is a comfortable barn conversion style cottage, smart, comfortable, well equipped and easy to stay in. We had our dog with us and she enjoyed it too, making good friends with Rob & Claires Spaniel. Highly recommend this place for the lovely area ( Castle Howard & Ampleforth nearby & East Coast only 20 mins away with the North York Moors on the doorstep) and the peace and quiet. We would certainly come back here again.

Nice accommodation nice owners reasonably priced compared to Isle of Wight which we had considered Centrally located in North Yorkshire but OK for the coast Sadly the resident semi feral “ginger cat” died during our stay due to old age which of course was no ones fault but we made friends with him for the last 4 days of his life which we were glad to do and will send Rob and Claire some photos of him Would come back David and Lynda Elliott

Immaculately clean and very well equipped, with a really thoughtful welcome pack on arrival. The cottage has been recently renovated to a very high spec, with loads of room for us and our (big) dog! The cottage is a great base for exploring the surrounding picturesque little villages and north yorks moors. The owners, Claire and Rob, couldn’t be more accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend for anyone wishing to explore the beautiful Yorkshire countryside! Thank you!!

  • "Unfortunately very low water pressure meant the shower and taps were a trickle, this was rectified."

However felt that this should have been checked beforehand. Very little in the way of cleaning materials, ie 1 j cloth and bottle of washing up liquid, no paper towels, bleach or additional bin bags Not enough crockery or cutlery for 2 meaning dishwasher had to be used each day ( had to ask for more dishwasher tabs) Good location for sightseeing, unfortunately would not return.
