  • "One of the best holiday homes I've stayed at!"

    Liz and Mike were great hosts, present and helpful, but not obtrusive. Countryside views from the French windows and patio, and a duck pond to the side. Spacious, but also toatsie warm. Accurate description on the Sykes site. Great cycling on quiet roads, steeper than they look on the maps though! Recommended

  • "We had a lovely few days at the barn which has everything you need, and more, for a long weekend (or longer)."

    Comfortable, clean, welcoming and warm. The kitchen has everything you need to cook a really decent meal, the bed is really comfy and the peace and quiet is really quite amazing. Shops are in easy reach but the track to get to the cottage may seem a little precarious for some. However, we managed it easy in a ford focus. If you want secluded peace in a lovely location then this property is for you.

  • "Beautifully restored barn in bucolic setting."

    Peaceful and quiet, spotlessly clean and tastefully furnished. Light floods in through the patio doors which lead on to a west facing patio. Perfect for enjoying a cool beer/wine after a days walking.

  • "We had a wonderful few days stay at The Barn."

    Liz and Mike are very welcoming and friendly hosts and the accommodation was just lovely.The Barn was extremely comfortable and clean with a wood burning stove for chilly evenings. It’s attached to the owner’s accommodation but very private, surrounded by fields and woodland so if it’s peace and quiet you’re looking for you’ll find it here, and although secluded surrounding towns and villages are within easy reach. There’s also lots of walks around too. Five stars from us!

BARNARD CASTLE

Staindrop 6 miles; Richmond 13 miles; Darlington 16 miles; Durham 20 miles.

The market town of Barnard Castle is situated in the unspoilt countryside of Teesdale in County Durham. It stands on the site of an ancient Roman fort which crosses the river. The medieval ruins of the castle still tower over the river and are well worth a visit. Known affectionately as 'Barney’ by residents and visitors alike, the town boasts cobble streets, yards and back lanes, which were first laid out in the 12th century. The nearby Bowes Museum is well worth a visit and a wonderful way to spend a day wandering around this beautiful building and experiencing the fascinating exhibitions. Beautiful walking country is right on the doorstep of this lovely market town, with woodland walks and cycle routes and the Lake District, the Pennine and Teesdale Ways, and the River Tees and magnificent waterfalls at High Force are all within easy reach.
