  • "The cottage itself was lovely - very clean and comfortable."

The only negative was on Sykes website the description states and photos show a wraparound enclosed decking. There is actually none. As there is no outside space it was not ideal for us with it being summer and we have a dog. We would probably have chosen another property if Sykes description had not been false.

Sorry about the absence of the decking which had to be removed due to planning issues but will be reinstated next week after a few alterations to comply with planning approval. Property Owner

  • "Lovely place, very clean, lovely big comfortable bed, nice furnishings, everything you need."

It is very peaceful. The owners are not at all intrusive but are there if you need anything, we did have to ask about waste and recycling as there was no bins by the apartment but Dave (I think that’s his name) brought a bin and recycling box almost straight away. The Hayloft is situated in very peaceful surroundings with views across the fields, it is in a lovely village with a shop just across the road and The Crown pub literally 5 mins walk away, there is another pub about 20 mins walk called the Farmers Arms, both of these serve good food. There is a really nice river walk in the village. The wine and fudge were a nice touch. Just a couple of small things There is no user information for the TV, cooker etc, this was not a problem for us but some people may need help. Also please be aware that the wrap around seating area advertised is not the case, due to planning issues this was taken down so there is only a very small table and 2 chairs at the top of the steps by the entrance door and one of the chairs is close to the steps and could easily fall backwards down the steps, it is a shame about the seating area as on a warm summers evening there really is nowhere to sit but inside. This feature should be removed from the description on the web site.

  • "What a fantastic find."

We had a wonderful holiday in a well appointed and cozy cottage. The village is friendly and there is a lovely short walk along the riverside which we loved. It is also a good base for walking with many lovely trails not too far away, including Richmond, Easby Abbey and Barnard Castle. The local pub is a stones throw away and does wonderful food in a friendly atmosphere (dog friendly too) I would highly recommend, and I can safely say we will be back!

BROMPTON-ON-SWALE

Richmond 3 miles; Leyburn 12 miles; Reeth 14 miles; Barnard Castle 18 miles.

The village of Brompton-on-Swale is situated to the east of Richmond on the northern banks of the River Swale. Named in the Domesday Book the village name is believed to have been derived from “broom” (the Shrub) and “tun” an old English word meaning farmstead or village. Today the village is home to a traditional pub and village shop. There are pleasant walks to be enjoyed around the village and along the riverside. The nearby ancient market town of Richmond is three miles away with its cobbled streets and narrow alleys or 'wynds' which enshrine over nine centuries of busy history and unique character. The town grew up around its castle, a Norman fortress dating back to 1071. Today Richmond offers wonderful walks to be enjoyed such as the Castle Walk - a dramatic terrace walk beneath the castle walls - or alternatively walk alongside the River Swale where there are parks, safe paddling areas and small waterfalls to enjoy. Brompton-on-Swale is located between the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Yorkshire Moors National Park providing an ideal location for exploring this scenic area.
