The Old Hayloft

A peaceful countryside getaway!

The accommodation was lovely, clean and well equipped with the essentials. The owner was polite, sweet and lovely!

We had a lovely stay and were very comfortable.

The facilities were excellent. We would have preferred a larger fridge with more freezer space.

Janet and family were very welcoming and friendly.

The cottage was an excellent base to vist places such as whitby and some surrounding picturesque villages. The steam railway is only a 20 minute drive and well worth a visit. We were able to walk our dog in the accompanying fields, which had sheep in. The cottage was a comfortable stay for our party of 6 and good value for money.

Very quiet & relaxing. You need to drive to the nearest pub or shop but you do expect that in the country. There are some low beams in the property so be mindful of that.

The Old Hayloft was a great place to stay and good value.

Three good sized bedrooms with plenty of storage, two lovely bathrooms, enough seating in the lounge for more than a dozen (with pool and table tennis facilities too), and a well-equipped kitchen and dining area. Excellent location for exploring the North York Moors and Howardian Hills, with nearby Helmsley (with its open air pool) a particular highlight.

The property is well situated for visiting nearby attractions.

It was very clean and well equipped. The large upper floor was ideal for families with plenty of room for children to play and adults to relax and socialise. When we had a small problem ( we thought the fridge wasn't working but it only needed to be switched on) it was attended to straight away. The owners were helpful and and friendly but gave us our privacy. We had 3 cars between our party and there was adequate parking

Fantastic location, close to many different attractions in the area, our kids loved being on a farm surrounded by sheep.

The owners were very friendly and made us feel welcome. Accommodation was idea, clean and comfortable, lovely to have such a large living space.

Nothing wrong with the property, just getting a text at 10.

30am on NYE to cancel a property we had booked weeks in advance isn’t quite good enough. Then trying to contact customer services to resolve for an hr only to ring sales and we got answered in 2 minutes. Because of the lateness in trying to book on NYE we paid the same for this as the same with a hot tub, very poor from Sykes. Hayloft great though!

The Old Hayloft was perfect for our family of 6, had everything we needed and our children really enjoyed the pool table.

Beds and sofas nice and comfortable, host really friendly. The perfect base for visiting lots of local attractions.

A beautifully done conversion with loads of rustic charm, including the low flying beams which come with plenty of warning notices and a specific mention during the introductory tour.

The property is comprehensively appointed, with dishwasher, washing machine, large flat screen tv and even a pool table - felt quite disappointed that neither of us play. Set within a small courtyard on a working farm, quite some distance from any other habitation, it was on the whole very peaceful, with only farm machinery and what we assume was the local RAF in evidence. Oh, forgot to mention the ‘encouragement’ of one or more recalcitrant animals, which we found very amusing. Our host and family were very welcoming and friendly. If we return to the area, we would certainly see if this property is available to stay again.

Absolutely beautiful place to stay kitchen has everything you could possibly need plenty of room in dining area lounge very spacious bedrooms were very big with plenty of storage bathrooms were fully equipped with showers and hot water the whole place was immaculate the owners were very friendly and helpful

Well presented with everything you might want.

Dish washer, washing machine, microwave etc. everything spotless. Beware of low beams, plenty of warning notices ‘mind your head’ but once you’re on auto pilot it’s easy to forget and bang your head.

We really enjoyed our stay here.

The property is very comfortable and has everything you need - the kitchen is especially well-equipped, which matters to us as we want to cook while away. The location is great - very convenient for lots of local attractions, not far from the coast - and the farm setting is peaceful and beautiful. Really enjoyed the sounds of the sheep and, at night, owls. The only thing we would say against it is that everything feels just a little bit tired and it could do with a revamp. But overall, a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Ideal for 5 adults as there was space to spread out in the living area.

Lovely property, very comfortable and spacious.

It had everything needed for a great week away. The bedrooms were nice and warm and the two bathrooms were very handy in the morning! The location was fantastic, loved watching the lambs in the barn from the window and seeing them in the field opposite. The pool table was an added bit of fun as well. Would certainly return for another stay.

Lovely barn conversion, the pool table was great fun though it has been through the wars, so dont expect a serious game as the table slopes in all directions it seemed!

Very warm, the kitchen was good and had a lovely selection of crockery for a good cup of yorkshire tea. we all had a lovely time

We had a brilliant time, it's the first "holiday" the boys have had due to other problems and the first time I have been able to stay overnight with them.

We visited the NYM railway, and had a trip to Scarborough, my favourite bit was getting up with the boys ( my sister says I need to see a psychiatrist) . But the place was brilliant and the air hockey was used everyday, highly recommend it and the lady was lovely,we had a slight problem when leaving as there was nowhere to put the rubbish bag. As we left we realised it was bin day . Would go again. .

The Hayloft was a lovely, homely place to stay for a family break, very well located on a farm in North Yorkshire.

It is fully equipped for six, including small children. The owner, Janet, was most helpful and kind, and even put up a beautiful Christmas tree for us! We would definitely go back, and recommand to family and friends.

Lovely cottage.

Janet is very helpful and friendly. Quiet and therefor a good sleep during the night. Please note the beams! Not the greatest for tall people! All in all a place we would definitely recommend staying.

The old hayloft was a perfect place to stay for our trip to the Yorkshire area, the cottage was clean, comfortable and spacious and well equipped for our stay, the location was so peaceful and calm.

The host was lovely and very helpful. We enjoyed our stay so much we were very sad to leave.

The farm is beautifully kept, a real credit to the owner's, set in wonderful surroundings and in beautiful countryside , it couldn't be better and so many places to visit not too far away, countryside or coast, whatever you like The owners are so helpful and friendly it is a pleasure to stay, we can highly recommend it and hope to be back very soon, thank you.

We arrived at a very busy time for the owners - mid way through lambing season.

However, owners did their best to make us feel welcome and settled in. Main issue with the holiday was the low beams in the upper floor - which in my opinion are dangerous. The owners have placed numerous signs to warn about the low beams - but due to how low (possibly only 5’10” at highest point at irregular points) make it inevitable that if you are over this height you WILL hurt your head. After hitting my head several times a day, almost every day, (once very badly near kitchen area resulting in me falling to ground injured) I decided that it would be better if I remained on lower sleeping area as much as possible. This somewhat restricted the enjoyment of the holiday. Clearly there was nothing owners could do about the beams during my stay, but I feel that that these should been have been flagged prominently in the advert. This would have definitely made me rethink booking this particular property for something more fitting to someone of my height or at least keeping me better informed. One other minor point relates to directions. A sentence at the end stating that farm is on right hand side (and the farm name) would be helpful as satnav and directions are currently to neighbour up the road on left hand side.

We had a lovely family break at the Hayloft.

The property was clean, very spacious and the pool table was a great asset. Janet, the owner, was very friendly and helpful, recommending places to visit. We would definitely recommend this property.

The Old Hayloft was very comfortable, the pool, table tennis and air hockey table was a bonus for the evenings.

Everything worked as it should including the WiFi! Would have been 5 star+ if the double bed mattress had been less prone to motion transfer. Would certainly recommend.

The well equipped Old Hayloft gave us really spacious accommodation, the games table a winner.

Set ina gated courtyard-on the Benton’s farm, a quiet rural setting ideally placed for enjoying the best of the Yorkshire moors. Walks from the Pickering steam railway, the beaches, Whitby and the heather covered moors, Danby a must, so much more to enjoy, a ideal base. Upside down living really worked for us

Excellent holiday from the beginning .

Key collection was easy the family who own the property were really helpful. Property was excellent as described in write up. Very quiet location lovely grounds to walk the dog.

little contact with owner, few instructions as to waste disposal or local facilities ie supermarkets or fuel station, creaky floorboards above bedroom.

nice location, clean accommodation, well equipped, warm and comfortable. poor tv reception, We would return for a second visit if the occasion arose, four in our party and all enjoyed the time.

A very comfy, clean and well equipped cottage in a quiet location but close to shops, bars etc. We were greeted by the host Janet and made to feel very welcome. The cottage is very close to the Moors with it's fantastic scenery. We would highly recommend The Old Hayloft for a relaxing break in a beautiful location. There was loads of space inside so even tho there was 6 of us it was not cramped or crowded. Property had everything you needed and more (wifi, games table, tv). Location is great - short drive to Hemsley which was lovely. Would definitely recommend and be back again.

It was a gorgeous spacious accommodation and there was so much equipment provided.

We didn't understand why we had to bring our own towels due to covid when sheets were all provided. The only other thing was the unnecessary heat. We turned down all radiators to 2 and some off completely and had windows open and it was still pretty hot. We also turned down the length of time the heating was on and started it much later in a morning. However at least all that was possible so by the end of the week We were comfortably warm.

Where do we start?

Health and Safety was nowhere to be seen. Firstly, my mother slipped in the bath in the en-suite, as there was no non-slip surface to the bath and no rails to hold on to to help stop the fall. There was mention of the exposed beams but not how low they were, my brother who is only 5ft managed to whack his head 3 times throughout the duration, one time luckily, he was wearing a flat cap as we found a 10cm long piece of woof protruding from his cap. If this had gone into his head, you would be looking at a law suit. The list is endless of the things that were missing, the DVD player was not working, the Pool table that apparently counts as a games room (including a dirt cardboard box which had all the games in) was broken. There is nothing I would have changed we all had a great time

We all enjoyed our time at The Hay Loft and would definitely return again.

The only problem I would say is the double bedrooms are large enough to take king sized beds which would be an advantage for tall adults. Also a larger freezer would be an advantage rather than a freezer box only big enough for ice cubes in the fridge as some people like to eat in there holiday home and we were a family of 6 and struggled to get all the fresh food in the fridge which was unusually small. Kitchen other wise was well equipped with cooking utensils.

Very friendly and helpful hosts, spotlessly clean, and very comfortable accommodation. Kitchen very well equipped and great relaxing areas throughout. We would thoroughly recommend and would not hesitate to return.

Accommodation was well-presented, clean and comfortable.

Owners were friendly and helpful. We loved the pool table which actually converted into table tennis and air hockey too! The downstairs bedrooms were nice and cool in the hot weather. The upstairs open plan kitchen/dining/sitting room did get extremely hot in the afternoons and evenings - 2 or 3 electric fans would be a good addition. Having a private courtyard was great for the dog but it was accessed from upstairs down steep steps - not as simple as leaving your back door open at home! A good base to visit places like Whitby, Castle Howard and Helmsley, as long as you're OK driving down very narrow lanes!

No problem with the accommodation.

It was without fault, the owner could not be morehelpful. the views and the situation were ideal . My complaint involves Sykes it was like a Talking to a brick wall. They would not respond to any communication until they had taken all our money, and then they would not give us a refund the only offer was a swop to next year with an increase in cost. Please bare in mind they had our money for a full year with interest. Not happy Pg

The farm was very peaceful and with lovely owners on hand if needed.

The accommodation was spotless with a lovely private courtyard and the kitchen was equipped with more than enough of everything. The location is very central to lots of beautiful places and towns to visit and also to the forests and coast. Everything we needed a holiday to be, and we even had fantastic weather!

Great place.

The property was excellent and had everything we needed for a relaxing break.

We enjoyed the quiet location and the holiday property, with lots going on on the farm to entertain our toddling grandson.

Beware if you are 6 feet tall, with the low beams in the upstairs lounge area. The beds were also a bit narrow for our son in law and his wife.

We had a fantastic week at The Hayloft we were made to feel very welcome by Janet and her family the cottage was spacious clean and extremely comfortable.

The farm is ideally situated for many local amenities and attractions and there is a lively river walk on the farm itself. there is an enclosed courtyard garden ideal for sunny evenings and barbecues. I cannot recommend this cottage enough it far exceeded our expectations we will definitely be returning

The cottage was a great space for 4 adults and 2 kids to spend time when not out exploring, and the children (6 & 4) really appreciated the toy corner.

Ideal for family get togethers.. Only downside was the lack of Internet.

We stayed at the old hayloft for a week which was a perfect location for a break with our family including our grandchildren who stayed just for the weekend.

This cottage is one of the best we have ever stayed in it is spacious warm and confortable and has everything in it you could ever need. It's location is lovely and ideal for the moors and the coast it is also on a farm our grandchildren loved this, the owner was very welcoming and gave us ideas of where to go in the area. In the evening there is plenty to do it is well stocked with games etc and has a pool table with air hockey and table tennis which came in handy in the evening. It is also very comfortable just to sit on the lovely comfy settees to watch television or read. This cottage was spotlessly clean on arrival it was a pleasure to stay there. With having the enclosed garden at the rear it was ideal with having a dog. Just to say we had lovely weather and one of the best holidays in this lovely cottage we will certainly go back for another week and would recommend to anyone who wants a perfect family holiday.
