Plenty of walks on the area, especially around the many reservoirs high up in the North Pennines, where it certainly blows! Shopping delights in nearby Barnard Castle (Barny to the locals). One thing to watch, is that fuel filling stations are few and very far between, so watch that fuel gauge.

The spaciousness, tranquility and quality of the accommodation was first rate. Easy access and plenty of parking. Lots of great walking from the door if you're not bothered by the steep hills. We did it several times pushing a pram. When you are in the upstairs en-suite bedroom you can't hear what's going on downstairs which was great with our 14 month grandson who gets up a lot earlier than we do these days. A must visit is to go and have a drink with Paul at the Kirk Inn :-)

  • "This is an amazing little oasis in the centre of Teasdale so great for exploring the area which we certainly did."

Set in a little woodland it is magical and clearly the family have created a great outdoor play arena for children with lots of little foci! The murmuration of starlings nature laid on for us to watch from the decking was amazing each sunset, bit noisy at sunrise, but that’s nature. Our only advice would be more crockery and cutlery. One of the party worked in hospitality and suggests that with a dishwasher you need enough for three times the number of occupants so you don’t have to keep washing up. We thoroughly enjoyed the base for our stay in Teasdale and would recommend it.

Very much home from home with all the facilities and accessories you need for your stay. Sitting on the balcony taking in the garden and woods, complete with a gaggle of ducks, puts a smile on your face. Our dog Parker loved Folly Lodge and laying out on the balcony. He also loved his morning ramble through the property's woods out the back. As for Teesdale and surrounding areas, Wow! What a well kept secret. Stunning scenery and history that we have barely touched on. This neck of the woods will be having a few more visits in future.

It is so well situated for easy access to Teesdale and a wonderful location for walking. We did three magnificent walks in the locality one from the cottage. On other days we explored the dale towns and villages and the walled garden attached to the hall down the road kept us busy for a couple of hours followed by a visit to the garden tearooms which serve cakes to die for. The cottage is so well appointed and very comfortable. We enjoyed cooking our evening meals in the very well equipped kitchen. Although the cottage is connected to the owners house it is so well designed that you felt as though you had the place to yourself. We met Emily a couple of times and she made us very welcome but was not intrusive. We enjoyed it so much that l have already booked a return visit for next year.

We had a lovely week of relaxing and visiting the surrounding areas. Our dog Molly had a lovely time in the woods and the best bit was being able to enjoy the views from the seats at the end of the woods looking out onto the beautiful scenery. The family are very welcoming and the goodie pack on arrival was very much appreciated. Our daughter is now hoping with fingers crossed that there will be further additions to our pets if/when the duck eggs hatch that we were given to bring home. Definitely would go again.

The owners, John and Emily could not have been more helpful. The only surprising aspect was the road noise bearing in mind the main bedroom and balcony face to the rear away from the road. Traffic passes quite fast and the road surface is of course grit that creates a lot of tyre noise. Such a beautiful location though, escape to the circular bench and firepit with a wonderful view for peace and quiet. Conveniently located for wonderful Tees walks and excellent restaurants, our favourites were the Forresters in Middleton and the Rose and Crown in Romalkirk. Easy day out to wonderful Durham and to Richmond and Swaledale. Stunning roads over to Weardale and up as far as Alston. Thank you for a great holiday, we will return and leave nothing behind next time!
