  • "Beautiful little cottage in a peaceful & quiet location."

Really comfy bed & the kitchen well equipped. Owners really friendly & helpful but in no way obtrusive. My only suggestion would be to put a shelf in the bathroom to put toiletries on - ended up putting them on the kitchen side which wasn't a problem but made the place look untidy. Would not stop us visiting again & definitely plan to return. Thank you! xx

We've been to quite a few cottages over the years & this has got to be in our top 10. This was our second visit, very relaxing week, in a lovely quiet village, walks from the door or only a few miles up the road Wykeham Woods plenty of walks.

The village is close to Scarborough which is perfect for stocking up on supplies. Matthew welcomed us on arrival and was on hand if we needed any advise, and thank you for our bubbly, very welcome after our drive.

Although the pub was closed we were offered drinks every evening which was a lovely gesture. The bed was very comfy, kitchen well equipped for self catering. Coffee machine was a very nice touch. If anything I would just say there isn’t any signal and the WiFi for us didn’t work at all really. But we thoroughly enjoyed staying there :) will be back if in the area

Clean comfy & warm. Just about 3 miles up the road, Wykeham Forest, plenty of parking & loads of easy walks. Go to the Anvil Inn to eat, (they don't open on Sunday, Monday or Tuesday) a very nice pub & the food just perfect, book a table, they were pretty busy every night, all the staff very good & friendly. All very good, infact we are going back at the end of September, looking forward to it already.

We had a lovely time for my birthday a few days before Christmas. It’s all lovely. Perfect freestanding bath. Costly underfloor heating. Fantastic curtains and blinds. I couldn’t find fault with anything. Maybe if you are 6 ft you may bump your head in the bedroom. The bed is comfy. The lounge has smart TV. Next door is the most lovely pub with fantastic food. The host is the nicest guy and lives at the pub. Great base for coastal visits. Can’t praise it enough. All good. Honesty is the best policy.

  • "Had a lovely stay at the Nail Shed celebrating our wedding anniversary."

We were impressed with the facilities. The underfloor heating throughout was lovely. The kitchen was well stocked and the cottage is beautifully furnished. The owners were welcoming and we enjoyed our welcome drinks in the Anvil Inn adjacent to the property. We ate there on both nights of our stay and have to say the fillet steaks were delicious and cooked to perfection. The pub has a cosy feel to it with wood burning stoves in each room. We travelled with our dog and the owner was helpful in suggesting local walks. We visited Cayton Bay which was a beautiful unspoilt stretch of sand for him to run around on. If I was to provide any constructive criticism it would be that the hanging area in the wardrobes could do with being a little higher and I also think the listing could be expanded to include things like hairdryer, tea, coffee provided as these were things I packed unnecessarily as I couldn’t be sure from the listing. I also think as it’s a pet friendly cottage, the provision of dog bowls for food and water might be welcome (I forgot to pack these but have found them provided previously!). Very minor niggles but all in all a wonderful stay.

Thank you what a lovely review Property Owner

We dined there for a night, the food was fantastic and the drinks were flowing but the company of the hosts made it all the more better! The accommodation itself was fab, exactly as shown in the photos. Would certainly recommend and if not for a stay then at the least a visit to the restaurant/pub, so impressed by how welcoming and kind they were. Location is good out the way of the busy town so nice and quiet but close enough to beaches and touristy areas. Overall 5 star great value for money also. Could sit here all day talking about our stay it was just brilliant

  • "We received a very warm welcome and were made to feel very much at home."

Our hosts were generous, eg. we enjoyed a pint on the house, and were treated one evening to fish and chips. Nothing was too much trouble, for example, when we had a problem with the TV our host came over immediately and fixed it for us. We had a wonderful stay and would recommend the Nail Shed as a holiday venue unreservedly.

  • "Although small and 'bejou' the Nail Shed was a wonderful little cottage and together with The Anvil Inn supplied a superb little nook away from it all."

On Mondays and Tuesdays the pub/restaurant is closed and it was just so quiet, which was a welcome change for us urbanites. You will need a car to explore because it is quite literally the middle of the countryside. We travelled over the wonderful North York Moors to Whitby, in the opposite direction to York and the minster (well worth it!!). Next, the restaurant at The Anvil Inn - what can I say, we were welcomed by our hosts who made us feel like VIPs, but more importantly the food... Steak 10/10, Fish and Chips 10/10 and finally the 'proper' Scampi 12/10. Our Monday to Friday stay was terrific and we returned to our 24/7 hectic lives much refreshed. Thank you to our hosts.
