"We loved it, such a beautiful location and the cottage itself was lovely."
Great places to walk from the cottage. The stream by the house was so relaxing to listen to and we loved seeing the sheep come for a drink while we had our breakfast. We enjoyed visiting Whitby, Grosmont and Goathland, went on the steam train (which also can be seen from the cottage) and visiting lots of the local pubs for great food and drinks, would definitely come back.

"So tranquil and peaceful, lovely setting."
Cottage was so clean and comfortable. Location perfect for dog walking and exploring Grosmont, Goathland and the valley generally (Thomason Foss and Malayan Spout). We took the train from Goathland into Whitby with the dog, enchanting to watch the steam trains go past the cottage whilst doing the washing up. We had a wonderful week away, thank you.

The cottage was just beautiful and comfortable. Everything was supplied that we needed and the welcome pack was a lovely surprise. The garden was such a joy to spend time in , away from the hustle and bustle of life . A hidden little gem .

"We had a lovely week at this delightful cottage."
It was very clean and cosy and the welcome pack , including something for the dog was a nice touch. There were problems with the internet when we arrived but the owner was quick to get it sorted. There is no shower- only a hand held one over the taps in the bath. This is not ideal for a couple in our 70’s and one of us got stuck in the small narrow bath!! It is in a stunning location on the rail trail but it is very isolated. A good half hour walk to the nearest pub. A few miles to drive but on very narrow, steep roads with blind bends and few passing places. Once back at the cottage best to stay put! We would recommend it to others but will not return ourselves due to lack of shower and isolation.

"The cottage itself was absolutely charming, in a stunning setting."
The enclosed garden was also beautiful, although maybe not quite secure enough for our terrier! The walking in the area is magnificent, and we also had a great day out at Whitby walking the coastal path. We had an issue with the wi-fi not working for the last two days of our short break which wasn't resolved, and meant we had no internet or connectivity at all, and couldn't use the TV either (which only runs through the internet). Whilst we understand these things happen we were frustrated with the slowness of response. Whilst everybody I spoke to at Sykes was friendly and apologetic it felt like nobody knew what to do or who was responsible for sorting out the issue, other than suggesting we try to reboot the router (which of course we had done, as we explained when we first reported the problem). I'm afraid this did rather spoil what would have otherwise been a perfect stay as having no music or tv in the evening after a long day's walk was disappointing, and as there was no phone signal in this area the loss of WhatsApp via wi-fi meant that we couldn't contact or be contacted by anybody, which did cause our family a problem. .
We were really pleased you enjoyed the cottage. We were sorry that you had problems with the WiFi. Openreach were contacted as soon as it was reported to us. An engineer attended at the earliest convenience. Sadly we could do no more. Thankfully the fault was found in the exchange box in Grosmont.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay."
It was perfect with the burbling River Esk a stone's throw away and views right across the valley. It was also great to be able to see the steam trains 'chuff' along in the far distance.
The cottage was 'picture postcard'. Absolutely delightful to sit outside or just look out the window. It is tastefully furnished & spotlessly clean.
Outside included a massive 'dog restraining' garden and lovely patio.
The cottage is very remote down a track which is actually part of the 'rail trail'. Suited us down to the ground. Although it did mean we had to jump in the car when we ate out in the evening.

"Wowee!
The cottage itself is immaculate, truly "dog friendly" and in a beautiful setting."
We really appreciated the little doggy welcome pack and the enclosed field near the septic tank meaning we could leave our dog to roam without worrying about her getting across the river into the sheep field.
The neighbours are lovely and the location is remote yet close enough to everything you need.
We can see how if staying longer the shower not being a stand up shower and the water pressure being slow might be a bit annoying but for us it wasn't a problem and we'd definitely come back!!

"This cottage is a little piece of heaven on earth."
It is accessed via an unmade road (so may not suit some vehicles). It is situated on the old railway track, now footpaths, with only vehicle access to the cottage (one neighbour attached to the cottage). We were a bit concerned, not being 'dog' people, that the cottage may smell a bit doggy! But we were happy to see this was not the case and the cottage is beautifully clean and maintained.
Looking out of the kitchen window you are greeted by fields and sheep with a stream below the garden. The garden is very well presented with ample seating to enjoy the views. From the cottage there are so many walking possibilities without needing the car. Grosmont is a mile in one direction, and Goathland in the other.
The owners request that shoes are not worn in the property, so you may want to pack some slippers. Also, the upstairs bathroom only has a bath with shower attached to the taps (as stated in the description and shown on the pictures). Possibly people with mobility issues might find it difficult getting in and out of the bath and kneeling if using the shower.
All in all, we absolutely loved it- cottage and location, and if we are in the North York Moors again we will definately book here.

"What a beautiful cottage, with a fabulous view."
The cottage is in a lovely quiet setting with just walkers passing by between Grosmont and Goathland. Lots of nature to enjoy as well as peace and quiet. The cottage is very warm and welcoming and is spotlessly clean. Good sized bedrooms and everything you need for an idyllic stay. We were there for new year and it was a lovely touch to see the cottage decorated for Christmas. We happened to be snowed in and needed to stay an extra night. The owners Louise and Wayne were so kind and accommodating and their neighbours were amazing checking in on us and even baking us bread!
Communication was fabulous and always helpful.
What a gem of a place, I cant recommend it enough. You won't be disappointed if ypu book!

"Just got back from a lovely stay at the cottage."
It was covered in snow and was just like something out of a film. The location is lovely, right beside the river, and along a nice little walking route, which also leads into grosmont, where we had lunch at the pub and got a few bits from the shop.
The cottage is clean, cozy and had everything we needed for our stay. We were warm and comfy, and the host was so helpful and kind to us. We were also greeted by some friendly neighbours. We will definitely be back for a visit in the summer, if you want a quiet getaway to be rested and undisturbed, this place is perfect. Thank you so much x

"A lovely cosy cottage situated in Esk Valley by the river."
It appeared to be totally renovated to a high modern standard recently and everything was provided for. Logs were provided for the log burner but they were not used because the central heating was sufficient. Thank you to the owner for the Welcome Pack and treats for the dog. I would recommend this property to anybody who wants a peaceful comfortable holiday.

The cottage clearly has had a lot of love put into it, with plenty of thoughtful touches throughout. Very well appointed with everything you would need for a stay. We had a fantastic weekend with our dog. Would maybe suggest access to the river bank is fenced to stop dog access.
Thank you very much for your kind review. Yes, we do plan to have a gate for access to the river bank.
