Our second stay in this beautiful cottage.

Fantastic facilities . Quiet surroundings very peaceful. Real home from home. Quality of bed linen, towels and furniture second to none. Host Rosemary was delightful. Thoroughly recommended. We will be back again.

What a gem of a cottage.

The ideal place to return to after a day out exploring the local area . Its close to lots of places to visit and beautiful walks right outside your door . The garden is fully enclosed and our lab finley enjoyed making the most of it while we enjoyed our morning coffee on the patio overlooking the stunning view . Rosmary is on hand if needed and the welcome package was nice surprise. We would definitely recommend the cottage and will certainly be back . This was our 4th stay. So cosy after a winter dog walk. Everything you need is provided, every little detail thought of.

Excellent accommodation, nice and warm, very comfortable and well supplied with the items needed for a stay.

The owner, Rosemary, kindly provided some local brack ( cake), very tasty also milk and eggs,coffee and tea. All in all a very welcome place to stay.

Rosemary is a wonderful welcoming host who left us Organic Milk & Eggs and Yorkshire Brack Cake Two amazing beds, one bedroom en-suite, fully fitted and equipped kitchen, books, DVDs guides etc and great WiFi Fully enclosed garden which our two dogs thoroughly enjoyed and safe off road parking right up to the front door Quiet and restful setting with sheep and pheasants in the adjacent field Thank you Rosemary for a fabulous time at Henhouse and we look to visiting again Robert & Freda

This is a beautiful cottage, tucked away in a lovely countryside spot.

Ideally situated for visiting all the attractions Rosemary is a lovely host, and nothing is too much trouble. Highly recommended!!

A beautiful cottage where the listing does not do it justice.

Beautiful, peaceful and super comfortable. Loved the secure garden so safe for our little dogs. Very comfortable bed with choice of pillows. In keeping with the name “Hen House” so many quirky little reminders around the cottage. Fabulous host who checked in on us twice but left us to enjoy our week stay. Beautiful location, breath taking views and a great pub a few doors away too. Thoroughly recommended. We will be back.

Beautiful, tasteful, comfortable.

Garden a big plus. We were attracted by the wet room advertised on the listing because my wife is immobile and wheelchair-bound, although the property is not advertised as wheelchair-friendly. We talked to the lovely owner about this after we arrived: we could well understand why she did not encourage wheelchair users. Some of the ‘turns’ in the cottage between rooms are very tight and the wet room itself is too small for average wheelchair manoeuvres. But we are exceptionally intrepid wheelchair users and have our own mobile shower chair/commode which is highly manoeuvrable. So we were OK! The owner also has a ramp - not advertised but offered to us - which made it much easier for us to get into the property via the one-step-up patio doors from the garden. Suggestion to Sykes: while the cottage should not be advertised generally as accessible to wheelchair users, do invite wheelchair users to enquire first: it might work for them. Speaking with the owner first would always help. Please note and take care: Wet rooms are a real rarity and very valuable to wheelchair users: if you see a wet room advertised, it usually means the property IS accessible. You need, Sykes, to add a caveat to the advert and advise direct consultation with the owner if a person with a wheelchair is interested in renting.

Rosemary is a fantastic host, at hand whenever needed but never intrusive.

The cottage itself was exactly as listed,(only better), the week went far too quickly to take it all in. Our Labrador Alfie was upset to be back home, the walks,and beaches visited,(Marske by the sea, Sandsend), were outstanding, the friendliness of the villagers,(such a welcome),awsome,the local pub,(superb food).I could go on and on,the hoiday to dream of. This is for a dog owner a truly dog friendly cottage the best we have ever visited

LOVE this place!

Cosy, comfortable, spotlessly clean and equipped with everything you could possibly need. But the best thing for us, it is truly dog friendly meaning the humans can totally relax while here. Stayed 4 times and intend to go again.

Hen House cottage is lovely, very well equipped and extremely comfortable throughout.

It is beautifully furnished and it was lovely having the Christmas decorations up. The garden was perfect for my little dog , safely enclosed. We felt very welcomed and the supplies left were much appreciated. The organic milk and eggs from the farm in the village are amazing! A fabulous base for exploring as so much is within easy reach and there are lovely walks from the cottage. Loved it so much I have booked to return in the Summer and I have never booked the same cottage again before!

Tge property was a stunning cottage set in beautiful surroundings.

Homely and well set out and a beautiful log burner made our stay perfect. The owner greeted us on arrival and a couple of times during our stay popped by, just to make sure that we had everything we needed. Attention to detail was amazing. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again

An absolute gem of a cottage in a picturesque village with a fantastic pub 2 minutes down the road serving great beer and fabulous food.

The cottage itself was warm and very well equipped with beams throughout a lovely stone floor in the living area. The kitchen has all mod cons and we cooked and ate in several times. Tea towels, washing up liquid, hand wash, dishwasher tablets and dishcloths were all provided. The spacious bedrooms are carpeted and have high vaulted beamed ceilings. The beds are extremely comfortable and had nice quality bedding so we all slept really well. Great shower with plenty of hot water but if you need more you can control that and the heating yourself. We didn’t need to as there was more than enough for the four of us. The en-suite bedroom has a toilet, sink and bath with a shower attachment too. The owner lives next door and was very welcoming and friendly. We arrived to find a delicious Yorkshire Brack, organic whole milk and eggs waiting for us which was a lovely touch. You can sit outside a have breakfast in the lovely little dog friendly enclosed garden which overlooks fields if the weather is warm enough. You can buy eggs, milk and logs for the wood burner in the village. The nearest shops are 2 1/2 miles away in Kirbymoorside which we walked to on footpaths. There’s a large Co-op and a smaller Spar if needed as well as smaller independent shops and cafes. There are some great walks right from the doorstep with Hutton-le-Hole easily reachable across the moors. We also visited Scarborough, Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby which are under an hour by car. The whole area is stunningly beautiful and very dog friendly with most pubs, cafes and shops welcoming you in. We wouldn’t hesitate to return.

A lovely cottage in a quiet village.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hen House, comfortable and well equipped. The fresh organic milk and eggs from the farm in the village were super. The Ryedale Folk Museum and theYorkshire Lavender Farm are well worth visiting. Helmsley was very interesting but very busy. We found local footpaths for dog walking and enjoyed the scenery and wildlife. In all a relaxing week. We will be happy to book again in the future.

The log burner had an issue which was raised with the owner, The toilet seats needs attaching more securely, they slipping sideways.

Spent a really relaxing week at The Henhouse.

Set up as a home away from home - everything needed including a lovely, fully enclosed & private garden for the dog. Countryside views, parking for two cars in the drive, many walks from the house, as well as further afield, and pub a 5 minute stroll. Centrally located for exploring N Y moors & Dales, coast, Howardian hills etc. Will book again!

Perfect cottage in a lovely village.

The cottage is clean, comfortable and has everything that we needed for relaxing week away. Henhouse is just beautiful. The garden has lovely views of the countryside and is secure for dogs. The Royal Oak pub in the village is very welcoming too and the food is very tasty. This was our second visit to Henhouse Cottage and definitely won’t be our last. The only downside to this cottage is having to leave at the end of our stay.

The property was lovely, clean and had everything you needed to make your stay comfortable.

They left games, umbrellas, torches, all stuff we’d forgot and used, little things that made a difference. Wet room shower was fantastic, the property was warm and having an en-suite bedroom also was a great bonus, as we took my mum with us. It’s also in a beautiful location with a great pub/food a two minute walk away. My only negative, and this isn’t about Hen cottage, it’s a Sykes thing, is the 10am check out, my elderly mum struggles early in a morning, so we ended up going home the the afternoon before, We have left both cottages we’ve stayed at absolutely spotless, and feel an extra hour at least would be beneficial. Would highly recommend the Hen cottage though, and would happily stay there again.

A lovely cottage situated in a quiet village.

The garden has a patio with chairs and table and looks over rolling fields. It is like the Tardis - does not look large from the outside but very spacious inside with all rooms having plenty of space. Rosemary, the owner, had left local organic milk and eggs as well as cake as a welcome and lives next door in case of any problems, but we had none. She popped round on our 2nd day to welcome us and gave recommendations for places to visit and eateries, which are also given in the welcome letter. The property was nicely presented and clean, comfortable beds and chairs and the shower in the wet room was excellent. In all a lovely and quirky property and we would recommend it as a great place to stay to explore the area. There are washing and bedding facilities for 4 legged friends, but not required by us, as we have no pets. Thank you for a lovely stay, despite the weather not behaving itself towards the end of our week.

An excellent property in all aspects.

Rosemary kindly left a lovely welcome pack of organic milk and eggs plus a cake. The dogs loved the garden which was fully enclosed and safe. We shall certainly put it on our list to revisit again in the future. Thank you Rosemary and Polly, the dog, for a brilliant holiday cottage which enabled us to have a great break in North Yorkshire.

We recently stayed at Henhouse Cottage with our two teenage grandsons.

It had everything we needed for our stay, and is situated in a charming little village, with a vista to die for a short walk from the cottage, aptly named ‘Surprise View’! It was warm, cosy, and great to return to after busy days out exploring the local area. Rosemary, the owner, who was extremely helpful, very kindly left us cakes, eggs and fresh milk from a local farm. We will definitely return!

We love this cottage.

It has everything we look for and some. We liked it so much that we have already booked it again.

We have had a lovely time at the cottage, with our German Shepherd Dog the flagstone floors were perfect and made it easy to clean up wet paw prints.

The welcome was lovely with a cake and milk from the local farm. There was a wealth of info on local walks many of which we tried out. The cottage was so warm especially when we put the log burner on and was a real treat when it started snowing. The cottage is in a fantastic location for walking and getting out in the moors but also made for such a peaceful stay. HenHouse cottage is a perfect place to stay for walkers and felt like a real home from home. Rosemary was lovely and very helpful with her communication and advice on the area. We hope to come back again.

This was our second visit in 12 months.

The weather was pretty cold and walking in the countryside was limited by wet conditions. The Hen house was lovely and warm with excellent facilities I have only one minor criticism the shower room is somewhat basic by modern standards. It is a great cottage for dogs with a lovely secluded and safe back garden. The owner Rosemary is unobtrusive but very helpful if called upon next door . We are disappointed that the local pub does not allow dogs in the bar area which is a very convivial area with a lovely fire burning. There is a special room for dogs and one can eat in there but it does feel like dog owners are not wholly welcome. It comes as a surprise that a country pub is not more dog friendly.

It's one of the best equipped cottages we've stayed in and Rosemary couldn't be more amenable. This was our third visit and we certainly hope to be back soon :-)

Had a good week despite the weather.

The garden was much enjoyed by our dog whenever it was dry. Everything very comfortable Only slight issue was that nonstick frying pan is very definitely no longer nonstick - but there are only metal utensils for it?

Cottage was very well presented and spotlessly clean.

A few treats that were provided were very welcome. Everything had been thought of to help make our holiday a relaxing one.

Cosy cottage in great location with a short walk almost on the doorstep.

Rosemary, the owner, who lives next door was very welcoming and left cake, eggs and milk for us. Our 2 beagles loved the garden and in particular hiding in the shrubbery. Have to recommend a trip to local pub which is also dog friendly.

What a wonderful cosy cottage!

Beautifully maintained and so comfortable. We couldn't fault it. The best feature for us was how truly dog-friendly it is. The garden is properly secure and can be accessed directly from your car or from the living room and the floors are stone so no worries about paw prints on carpets! We've already booked to come back next year

Gorgeous cottage in a beautiful village surrounded by spectacular countryside.

Clean and comfortable with everything you could possibly need - good quality bedding and furnishings - fully enclosed lawned garden which kept our dog safe The owner’s attention to detail and her thoughtfulness were much appreciated - there were laminated cards detailing several walks straight from the cottage door - they even told you if there were stiles to negotiate which we found helpful as our dog is a big girl and impossible to lift over them. Friendly village pub serving good food.

Over a number of years we have stayed at a number of cottages all very nice but we thought this was the best sofar.

IIt was well presented and the view was very pleasing and the horses in the field entertained our dogs. The only problem we had was findig the place by the directions on the support sheet. I would suggest take the road from Hemsly to Killamoor, turn left at the island by the JET garage follow road to the top of hill turn left at small round about follow road keep right at any junction till Gillamoor, quoon st, take first rht in centre pass pub carry on to theend of restriction sign and you are at the hen house.

Hen House Cottage is a comfortable and well equipped property in a lovely village with an excellent pub close by.

The cottage has everything you need for a relaxing holiday and the local milk, eggs and cake were a very welcome surprise on arrival. The garden is very dog friendly and our Miniature Schnauzer, Millie felt at home straight away. We loved the area and the cottage so much we didn’t want to leave! Thank you, Rosemary.

Perfect location whether you want a quiet holiday or a hectic, busy one as there are many walks from the front door and it is also very easy to get to many attractions in the surrounding area.

The cottage was lovely and very comfortable, providing us with everything we needed on our weeks break.

It is very dog friendly and the garden was ideal for us and the dogs. It is an ideal location for exploring the North York Moors and the village pub (Royal Oak) provides great food, I would recommend the Sunday Roast though you will have difficulty in finishing it as the portions are huge. The organic farm shop in Fadmoor is fantastic for picking up fresh seasonal organic produce at a very reasonable price. Easy arrival and take over. Lovely host. Property was exactly as described. Village was great. Pub accommodated our dogs when we ear there. Food was really good. We would highly recommended people to go there. Will go back.

Booked at short notice for a mid week break,Great location for getting to places and walks, Couldn't of asked for a better place to stay, would not hesitate to book again in the future,being with our puppy, there are plenty of dog friendly places to dine.

A cosy characterful cottage in a lovely village, felt very at home, the garden was secure and ideal for our dog.

The lovely joinery work around the cottage enhanced the property. The surrounding country side is beautiful with many walks and everything you could need is available in Kirkbymoorside a short drive away. We would recommend a takeaway from Fusion Spice in Nawton, also to eat at the Feversham Arms in Church Houses and Lion Inn at Blakey, great pub food all super dog friendly. The pub in the village was nice but not particularly dog friendly, we were seated in a side room on our own with no atmosphere at all, not what we look for in a village pub. We would love to return to the cottage at some point.

This is our 2nd stay at Hen House as we loved it the first time.

Everything you need is provided by Rosemary for a comfortable relaxing stay. Gillamoor is a lovely quiet village with nice walks close by which was ideal for our dogs. It’s not too far to Pickering and Malton and Helmsley for shopping. We will return at some point as it is just a beautiful cottage in a beautiful place.

In November it was so good to arrive and find the cottage was so cosy and warm.

A lovely cosy cottage, and very well equipped.

Although property was clean and tidy it was in need of maintenance on fixtures and fittings, 1,kitchen cupboard door hanging off.

2,oven door had to be lifted to close + marker pen used to show which dial operates which ring. 3, shower room radiator has sharp edges due to fixings broken. 4, roomstat did not appear to work below 25 degrees. 5,two easy chairs very uncomfortable.

The Henhouse is an ideal location for exploring the North York Moors.

A really comfortable and welcoming holiday home which we were sad to leave. The owner, who lives next door, is lovely and very helpful. We would whole heartedly recommend The Henhouse.

A very few people could find the occasional strong smell of pigs offensive.

I would stress that it was only in the garden and did not affect the cottage in any way. We all had a wonderful time with plenty of interesting places to visit near by.

Lovely cottage in an idyllic location.

We walked from the cottage to Hutton Le Hole and up on to the moors, beautiful. The local pub is very welcoming and the food was excellent.

Lovely cottage.

Owners live next door and are very friendly and helpful. Dog friendly pub 2 minutes walk but be aware there are no shops in the village. Nearest supermarket 30 mins drive, though smaller shops 15 mins drive and no takeaways deliver. We'd great days out in Whitby and Scarborough, just under an hours drive away. No bus service in town was our only disappointment as we'd have preferred to use it rather than drive. Great holiday home with no complaints from us. Would recommend .

Lovely comfortable cottage.

A real plus is the patio doors onto a really pretty private garden. Stone flooring in the kitchen/diner/lounge makes it very pooch friendly ! The location is great - right next to a footpath and bridle path giving access to mile and miles of walks. The cake and homemade plum jam which were waiting for me when I arrived were lovely welcoming touches . Highly recommend.

Having such a charming, comfortable and well-equipped cottage to return to each day, did much to enhance our enjoyment of this long-awaited holiday.

There was nothing to fault the cottage or its surroundings. The Royal Oak,less than a five minute walk away served the most delightful meals. Highly recommend the cottage to all. Thank you Sykes for a lovely relaxing break.

Well equipped and brilliant for our puppy. We have already rebooked. Gillamoor is a small village in a great location for travelling around the moors. The pub is two mins, (if that), from cottage Which serves lovely food.

Really enjoyed our stay at Henhouse, peace and quiet, great place to relax and chill. Kirkbymoorside had a good butchers, bakery etc. Would certainly visit the area again - stunning scenery.

Cottage was well appointed, clean and comfortable throughout.

Extremely well equiped and situated within reach of excellent walking country/attractions. Everything was on 1 level, for ease of mobility, with 2 bathrooms/wetroom. Rooms were of a very good size. Pretty garden with country views and ample parking. Plenty of information regarding appliances and local area. Well stocked with rainy weather options - books, games, etc. Local farmshops and markets provide a variety of artisan produce.

Hen house cottage was lovely clean and spacious.

The village of Gillamoor is very pretty and peaceful.

There is a local pub which allows dogs in too. There is a working farm close to the cottage but it doesn’t disturb you when staying in the cottage but you can hear the animals from time to time. The cottage is gorgeous, the French doors at the end of sitting room open out to a pretty cottage garden and a paddock beyond. The furniture is very comfortable and the cottage is very clean and well equipped. There are good walks from the cottage and both kirkbymoorside and Helmsley are within easy driving distance. On arrival at the cottage there were a few lovely treats left by Rosemary the owner and even some bits for the dog I loved my week in Hen House Cottage and would recommend it to anyone who wants a relaxing holiday. It’s a real gem

Henhouse cottage was the perfect getaway , it was spotlessly clean and totally comfortable.

A beautiful, fully enclosed garden , off road parking and a village setting made being outside a pleasure . The bedrooms were large , light , well furnished with comfy beds and an en suite bathroom as well as a family shower room . We would highly recommend this lovely cottage and certainly intend to return .

Had a lovely stay at henhouse cottage , Rosemary had left tea, coffee, milk , eggs and cake along with doggie extras , all of which were a nice surprise on arrival , it was a good base to travel around and visit different places , Hutton le hole is very close and the pub there had nice food , friendly bar staff and was very dog friendly dog both day evening , hope to stay again at henhouse cottage in the future

The printed local walks were a great help for us. Nice Village, beautiful local Pub with excellent food.

Rosemary made us most welcome.

Lovely extras, cake, milk and eggs. Also treats and a ball/bowls and towels for the dogs. Lovely little enclosed garden. Lots of birds on the feeders. Log burner was fabulous too. Local pub very expensive, £4.95 for a standard sized glass of pinot. Robbery without violence. Only downside which is no reflection on this perfect hideaway. We will be booking again.x

We had a lovely stay at Hen house.

It was meticulously clean and had all all the facilities we required. Set in beautiful countryside and with the added bonus of a great pub just a 2 minute walk away. It is now on our list of places to stay, again.

Gillamoor is a great village for a quiet get-away with some spectacular views and good opportunities for walking right from the cottage door.

It's also well located for reaching all the major areas of North Yorks, including the Moors. Hen House Cottage is well laid out and very dog-friendly with the stone floors and open plan living area. The garden is great too. Overall we had a fantastic week and would go back there again.

Very relaxing quiet traditional style cottage and village.

Royal Oak pub in village ok for food and drinks and friendly locals who sell apples, eggs and vegetables for a small donation to the church. Good for dog walking, horse riding and country sports. Easy access to the east coast from the village but don't expect to get anywhere quickly. The major supermarkets deliver to the village but there are several supermarkets and farm shops within a few miles. The cottage itself lends itself to self catering, plenty of utensils, crockery, cutlery, glasses, dishes, pans and gadgets etc. The owners are friendly and helpful and provided some Yorkshire Brack, Milk and eggs and a good welcome. The only criticism I have and it is on a personal level, I do not like the dark floor tiles in the wet room. Other than that the cottage is home from home.
