The location is excellent with the lovely sunrise early morning to look forward to along with the sound of the sea crashing up against the promenade or just rolling in on the beach both of which are only across the road. The cottage facilities are excellent along with the cleanliness and layout which suits our needs very much. Thank you also for the 'welcome pack'. Once again a very enjoyable holiday break in Filey. We have already booked for 2023 so as not to miss out on our annual stay in Filey especially at 'Sunrise'. As we sat out in the sunshine with our lunch or drinks, we had many passers by expressing how nice it would be to stay in Sunrise', we informed that it was excellent...get booking on line with Sykes!!

Dear Keith, Thank you for publishing your personal email to me as feedback to Sykes. Your comments are very much appreciated. I am so glad that you enjoy staying at 'Sunrise' and I will look forward to welcoming you back again next year. I have already ordered the good weather for you! The only issue was a safety issue getting out of the bath - no bath mat or grab handle. Both my wife and I slipped when getting out of the bath after getting a shower

Dear Bill I apologise for not getting back to you sooner. I must have missed your posting. Bath mats are supplied and I cannot understand why they were not provided in your case. I will follow this up with our cleaners. If you are faced with this or any other problems in the future then please do get in touch whilst in residence and we will endeavour to rectify any problems. We have contemplated grab handles for the bath but our worry is fixing them to tiles that are backed onto a plasterboard wall lining. If they were to come adrift in use then perhaps an even bigger problem might arise. Thanks for getting in touch. Feedback is important to us. Mike Property Owner

  • "A beautiful cottage by the sea!"

Everything was perfect inside the cottage and it was clean upon arrival, we even had a complimentary bottle of fizz and treats , very thoughtful. The towels and bedding smelt lovely and were of good quality. The parking space was brilliant, as parking down on the front can be very difficult. The cottage has been lovingly restored and cleverly designed and we enjoyed reading all about this and it’s history in the guest book. The french doors in the bedroom were great for sitting at in the morning or evening with a drink. The cottage does get lots of admirers but you get used to this! The only thing if anything, the outside area could do with a little care and attention. There were lots of weeds and garden unkept, also a broken chair outside. Four chairs would have been better than two outside , but we did find two camping chairs in the cupboard, enabling us to all sit outside together. I would love to stay again, the best accommodation we have stayed in Filey and we have been coming for many years! I didn’t want to leave .

  • "The location of SUNRISE is fabulous for many reasons especially the morning sunrise and views out to sea."

A place to be able to walk along the beach (subject to tide times) and promenade and to be able 'switch off' and enjoy life!! The parking space provided is an excellent addition as the area in front (across the road) of the cottage is difficult when Filey is busy with visitors. Due to local authority restrictions, there is no parking allowed directly in front of the cottage. The WiFi connection (as instructed) worked well in the conservatory behind the cottage. The layout of the cottage is excellent. It has all 'white goods' and equipment. Useful to do some washing before we returned home!! The cottage was very clean upon arrival and with furnishings and decorations to a high standard. SUNRISE is very comfortable and cosy. Spacious for four people to stay. We do not have a pet but the house did not have any traces of any pets being 'on holiday' before us when we arrived. We ate in house as there is a well-known supermarket not far away to purchase our needs very well. We have already booked for later in the year when we again will look forward to our break at SUNRISE and enjoy all that it has to offer.

The property

This beautiful detached cottage rests on the sea front of Filey, boasting panoramic views over the magnificent stretch of sand that is Filey Bay, with Filey Brigg and its shallow rockpools to the north.

Equally perfect for families or couples wishing to escape from the hustle and bustle, Sunrise is an excellent choice for a holiday whatever the season.

Renovated to a precious standard, the ground floor comprises of a dining area, and a cosy lounge where you can snuggle up in front of the TV, which invites warmth to those cooler evenings.

Conveniently, there is also a family bathroom on this level, with a bath and integrated shower.

Follow the natural lighting over to the open-tread spiral staircase, where you can wander up to the delightful bedrooms.

The double bedroom takes you out onto a south-facing Juliet balcony, your own haven to unwind with a warm cup of tea and truly appreciate the unique location.

The second room hosts two single beds, just as promising for a good night's sleep, with a cloakroom dividing the formation.

Discover the small patio/garden area outside, a chance to take in the fresh air, before an exciting day out in Filey and beyond.

The town centre is a very short walk from the cottage, don’t be surprised if you see a brass band playing in the gardens on a Summer Sunday.

The town has 12 pubs and bars, the nearest, the Bon Hommes, is only a stone’s throw away at the top of the hill.

Scarborough, seven miles to the north, was Britain’s first seaside resort.

It has an attractive and still working fishing harbour and a castle that takes you back in time, as well as many typical seaside attractions that cater for all tastes.

Not far is the solitude and beauty of the North Yorkshire Moors as well as the coastal town of Whitby, famous for being the home of legendary Captain Cook and fictional home of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and the very picturesque coastal hamlet of Robin Hoods Bay.

Golfers can enjoy Filey golf club, just one mile from the cottage.

All of which just add to the appeal of this lovely little hideaway by the sea.

About the location

Scarborough 7.5 miles; Bridlington 11 miles.

Filey is a traditional English seaside resort with a friendly atmosphere, offering a restful holiday, making an ideal place to stay for walkers and wildlife watchers at any time of the year. A real gem on the Yorkshire coast. A fishing town on the North East Coast, Filey has enjoyed a reputation of being a resort since Victorian times, set beside the magnificent Filey Bay, a long stretch of beautiful sand, with Filey Brigg and its shallow rockpools to the north. Filey Brigg is a low headland that protects Filey Bay and provides good bird watching and seawatching opportunities all year round. The 400 ft high Bempton Cliffs (RSPB Reserve) to the south of Filey Bay are home to over 250,000 seabirds in the summer. Gannets, kittiwakes, puffins, guillimots and razorbills all nest there. Gannets are regularly seen diving for fish in Filey Bay. The Brigg area is an ideal place to watch for common and rarer waders, seabirds and migrating warblers, finches and thrushes. As well as seabirds, seals and other marine life, such as porpoises dolphins and minke whales can be seen in the sea around the Brigg. The town itself seems almost caught in a time warp, retaining much of its character with individual shops, narrow paths and ginnels. There is a small coble landing, a slipway where local fishermen keep their boats, plus delightful beach chalets that can be hired through the summer months. The bay is edged with two promenades and there are various gardens, where brass bands play on a Sunday afternoon. This small town is family orientated, crazy golf and candy floss. Also in Filey there is the Filey Dams Nature Reserve, a wetland reserve where common and rare waders and wildfowl can be seen as well as autumn gatherings of swallows, sand martins and house martins. Also there is Parish Wood (just off Sycamore Avenue) an unexpected gem that offers a wealth of wildlife. Willow warbler, chiffchaff, blackcap and tree sparrows breed there and a wide variety of other species are regularly seen such as great spotted woodpeckers and sparrow hawks. Parish Wood also provides shelter and food for a wide range of migrant bird species such as goldcrests, pied and spotted flycatchers, warblers, finches, thrushes and woodcocks. A short drive brings you to the busier town of Scarborough where for family fun you can visit the Alpamare Waterpark, a waterpark unlike anything the UK has ever seen before, as well as plenty to explore and discover in this lovely area.
