  • "A fantastic base for exploring both the city of York and the surrounding villages and the Wolds."

A very well equipped a comfortable house with the benefit of three separate bathrooms. Surrounded by fields and near to Stamford Bridge, it’s a great location to suit all. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay from my parents on their 80s to our 3 year old spaniel! We can’t understand the people that complain about the lack of WiFi. It makes that clear in the list of amenities and we enjoyed some time off the grid! Thoroughly recommend.

Cottage well equipped and comfortable. Great for our group of 5 adults. Only problem was the absence of WiFi - we felt that this should have been explicitly stated on the Sykes description.

We had a really good time at the property and made full use of the kitchen to cook extravagant meals and really make use of all the space. We had concerns about having no WIFI but we took a couple of DVDs and found that we were perfectly content without it. The hosts were lovely and welcoming too. I would return without hesitation.

  • "How about NO HOT WATER AT ALL for a three night stay!"

We found that there was no hot water early on our first morning (Friday) and informed the owner of the property at a civilised hour - 9.30. As we were on our way out for the day, we ensured that the owner had access to the cottage and he assured us that he would look into the problem. On our return at approximately 16.30, we found that there was still no hot water. We immediately contacted the owner and he was adamant that there was hot water. We asked him to attend the property and he was forced to admit that indeed there was no hot water. He then informed us that he could not get a heating engineer to look into the problem until Monday. There were six of us in the property for the weekend and to have no hot water was beyond a joke. The owner offered to let us use the shower in his house but under no circumstance was this practical. We finished up either using kettles of hot water or using a stone cold shower -- it was only mid December! We are interested to establish as to what compensation we will receive as you ( Note 1) were unable to provide the most basic of facilities i.e. hot water Note 1 The contract was with Sykes, not the owner of the property. Showers were not clean - we did this ourselves. The location was further from the village than what was in the description. We had an ant invasion that we did let the owners know about. It was a shame as the cottage was lovely and an ideal spot from where we could get to different areas of Yorkshire.

  • "Towels were not provided - while this was not a problem because we were informed over the phone when confirming our arrival and key collection details it was only in the property description by omission."

Surprised to find no Wi-Fi which is rapidly becoming the norm these days. Despite these relatively minor niggles this is a nice comfortable holiday cottage in a quiet location but not too far from amenities. Access and parking were very good. Owners made our dog welcome and indicated local dog walks.

The Cottage was very well appointed, clean and tidy and met all of our needs. Facilities are good, modern and the parking can facilitate 3-4 large family cars. The heating system is exceptionally good and all of the showers are powerful and hot water provided constantly. It is well located and provides easy access to York, Leeds, Harrogate, Beverley and the Yorkshire Wolds. There is a good range of pubs/restaurants locally. We had a thoroughly good break and I would strongly recommend the Cart Shed to family and friends and would use it again.

  • "Very warm, comfortable and well appointed cottage."

It was ideal for 5 adults with the 3 en-suite bathrooms and plenty of hot water for everyone to shower in the mornings. The two single beds are 2'6" wide and seemed a bit narrow at first, but we adapted to them. The cottage is very well located for using the park and ride into York which we used over 4 days. We had pre-booked afternoon tea at Betty's for 1pm, which was an ideal time, as it meant we were able to eat all that was on offer (it was a large tea with canapes, sandwiches, scones and cakes - and of course plenty of your chosen tea to drink). The National Railway Museum and Castle Museum were well worth visiting and just wandering around the ancient city walls of York was interesting. The younger members of our party found the range of shops very good in the city, with a number of individual shops not found on the average high street. A visit to Roly's Fudge shop was not to be missed. We visited both Whitby and Scarborough as they were just over an hour's drive away. The week passed all too quickly and there were still plenty to do in York that we had not managed to visit. We had a lovely meal at the Vintage Inn in Stamford Bridge and utilised both the Chinese and Pizza takeaways. Overall a great holiday home and we would not hesitate to return.
