  • "We had a lovely welcome from Neil and Serena when we arrived, they had even made us a cake."

    The Barn is situated on the edge of the beautiful North York Moors, with beautiful views and next to a working farm. There is a lovely games room a few paces from the back door which is like a miniature pub. Owl Barn was clean, tidy and comfortable, and a great base to allow exploring of the North York Moors.

    A lovely location for a relaxing stay. Owl Barn is perfectly equipped and very cosy. The Stumble Inn is a great addition and the hosts were very welcoming. I would highly recommend.

  • "Owl Barn was an absolute haven for us."

    Nestled in a valley, the peace, tranquility & views are incredible. Neil & Serena were lovely hosts supplying tea, coffee, milk, wine and a delicious homemade Victoria sponge. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment, beds incredibly comfortable and there were complementary toiletries in all the bathrooms. If you want a getaway to relax and unwind this is the ideal place. Neil & Serena have created a hard to beat holiday let. The plus for us was the EV charger and free entertainment of farmers chasing cows down the lane, it has to been seen to be believed. There were 4 adults sharing Owl Barn and there was plenty of room for us all, the dishwasher and washing machine was a great feature. The upstairs bathroom has quirky steep steps up to it, so I would suggest that caution is needed, but it just adds to the overall character of the property. We will definitely be returning to Owl Barn in the future. Thank you Neil & Serena

    The facilities are fantastic and the adjoining field and bar area was amazing to entertain the whole family. Neil went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed, so thank you very much. Would definitely recommend and would love to stay again.

  • "Owl Barn is a lovely property set in the quiet area of Glaisdale in the North York Moors."

    The barn itself is well equipped, very comfortable and there is plenty of off-road parking. The Owners have thought of everything and go the extra mile to help you to feel welcome and at home. Our Grandchilren loved the Stumble Inn and really enjoyed the freedom of the paddock at the back. The Owners had provided lots of games and we spent many happy hours playing outside in the fresh air. We can't thank Neil and Serena enough for their hospitality. They are simply amazing! NB: We thought we should mention that we needed to speak to Sykes' Cottages regarding a booking issue that cropped up before our arrival at Owl Barn. As the query could not be sorted on-line, we made several attempts to email and phone the Helplines. We did experience a great deal of difficulty in getting through so maybe Sykes' Cottages could make their contact channels a little easier for their customers? Anyhow, we managed to sort it eventually. Our thanks to Matthew, Claire and Phillip at Sykes' Call Centre for their assistance.

    It has been lovingly refurbished and is very comfortable. We enjoy the location, very easy to pop across the moors and enjoy the scenery and be at a lovely bay like runswick within half an hour.

  • "A lovely property in an idyllically tranquil setting."

    The hosts were really warm and friendly.The barn conversion in 2022 was to a high standard throughout. Worth noting that one of the upstairs bedrooms had a hobbit hole type door and the other a mezzanine bathroom with a steep hybrid stair-cum ladder access. We liked the slight quirkiness and children would love it! For visitors with a mobility issue the main bedroom on the ground floor would be the ideal one. We cooked all our week’s meals and the well-equipped kitchen area worked well for us. If you want a peaceful break in a pastoral moorland dale we’d highly recommend Glaisdale and Owl Barn.

  • "We approached the cottage along the moors through thick fog at night and was so very pleasantly surprised to find such a beautiful place."

    We were even greeted by the lovely owners saying if we had any questions we could contact them about anything. We did actually ask if the heating could go up any further and they did this for us remotely! The log fire was amazing and cosy to full asleep in front of after a trip out each day. Beautiful view of fields and horses in front of the barn. Highly recommend the Postgate pub.

  • "Owl barn was beautiful!"

    It was well furnished and spotlessly clean. Everything we needed was provided . As we opened the door we were greeted with a vase of flowers, a scrumptious cake, tea, coffee, wine and milk in the fridge - very thoughtful. Neil and Serena were very friendly and helpful and are rightly proud of their project. We enjoyed a few evenings playing darts in the Stumble Inn which was very quirky and great fun ! Be aware that the staircase in the third bedroom with the mezzanine bathroom could be difficult to negotiate for those of advancing years! The location was very peaceful, very quiet with views across the fields. You must be aware that this property isn’t in the village- it’s at least 2miles from anywhere. It’s a good half an hour or more to drive to Whitby or any other places if interest around some extremely winding and steep lanes - but that’s how it is in this part of the world!

    Easy parking and unloading the car, wine and homebaked Victoria sponge on arrival was very much appreciated. The on suits for the three bedrooms were ideal. Great location to explore the area. I've already passed the details onto one of my friends. I'll have to come back with my bike and tackle the hills. Enjoyed the little pub (The Stumble Inn) and playing space invaders again.

  • "Owl Barn is a beautiful barn conversion ."

    It is very tastefully done . Every modern convenience is provided and all the equipment is high quality and works well . It is located in a beautiful spot - very remote so perfect for some peace and quiet . The owners are very welcoming and helpful - treated like guests not customers . Only slight issue - and this is a subjective comment is that heating is under floor and we found it to hot particularly in the downstairs bedrooms . Of course others might like a warmer house than us and it is hard for the owners to judge - it was November and the temp changed about 12 degrees whilst we were there so not easy for them ! .

The village itself has a post office in the general store, an excellent butcher (famed for his pork pies) and one hotel/pub, with restaurant. Further afield, Whitby and the coast are just 9 miles away whilst the quaint moorland villages of Hutton-le-Hole, Lastingham and Thornton Dale and the market town of Pickering are all within easy touring distance. For something a little quieter, why not take a trip to the less-discover gem of Saltburn by the Sea, a charming, Victorian seaside resort. The terminus of the North York Moors Railway is at nearby Grosmont, inviting you to take a steam railway ride back in history through beautiful moorland scenery.
