  • "A lovely cosey shepherds hut sitting in its own area, great parking and awesome views."

Great outdoors seating to enjoy local wildlife in the field deer and hare's often come into view. There's always a lovely warm welcome from Fiona and nothing is too much trouble for her. If the evening is colder then back indoors and fire up the wood burner and enjoy the views in comfort. A great place to stay with loads to see and do just a short drive away. This was our second stay and we will be back again next year.

The Shepherd Hut was so cosy and the view was so relaxing. We experienced both sunbathing weather and snow on our break here, which gave us some beautiful photos. George the sheep and Aggie and Otto the goats were wonderful. Thank you Fiona, Tim and Becca for making our stay perfect.

  • "The property was very cute, comfortable, cosy and clean."

The view from it was lovely and it felt secluded even though it was just across the driveway the main house. There are no negatives and we'd love to stay again. I didn't realise there wasn't an oven in the property and we took a pizza but couldn't cook it. It wouldn't fit in the fridge either as the fridge is very small. It wouldn't have been a problem had we known. There's a microwave and an electric hotplate inside and a barbecue outside, but as there are lots of places to visit that have great cafes and restaurants, we didn't need or want to cook anyway. We met Fiona and she was very friendly and helpful. She had put together a lovely welcome basket for when we arrived. We had a perfect weekend!

  • "This is my fourth visit to Bellwether."

I call it ‘My Happy Place’. I will always come here by myself or a weekend/week with my husband. This Shepherds Hut is so comfortable, every need is catered for in the hut and nothing is too much trouble for Fiona and Tim. You want time away to unwind/relax or come for a romantic getaway then this is perfect. To top it all you have spectacular views, peace and quiet and wildlife is all around. George the sheep, Aggie and Otto the goats are a pleasure to see and hear. Fiona also gives the most amazing back massages so do give them a try. Whatever time of year, Bellwether is the ideal holiday retreat. Do keep looking as Fiona and Tim will be opening a stunning cottage at Easter and the same as the shepherds hut it has magnificent views. I will certainly be giving it a try with my husband.

  • "We absolutely loved our stay at the Bellwether."

We wanted somewhere to spend half term that was close to nice pubs and good walks, but also felt luxurious. The Bellwether gave us that and more. The shepherd’s hut itself is really spacious and bright. There were gorgeous touches, like we were left a basket of fresh eggs, homemade marmalade and marshmallows to roast on the fire. There is everything you could need- the kitchen is well equipped, and the bed is super comfy. The bathroom is spacious and modern. The hob heats up really quickly and was great for making breakfast. The outside space is beautiful- we loved sitting out and reading next to the chiminea. The animals are fab- we loved Otto, Aggie and George, and checked for them every morning to see what they were getting up to. Fiona was so accommodating and kind as a host. The hut is near to Helmsley where we had lovely meals, and enjoyed the local brewery. We also visited the farm shop at Beadlam, Pickering and Whitby. We joined English Heritage whilst staying and managed to visit Helmsley Castle, Pickering Castle, Whitby Abbey, Byland Abbey and Rievalux Abbey- totally worth it! We can’t wait to go back xx

Bellwether is in a great location with many places of interest within a 40 to 50 mile radius, castles, stately homes and spectacular ruined abbeys, fab little market towns and incredible cities. Not forgetting the great hospitality from Fiona, nothing was too much trouble, not to be outdone Otto, Aggie and George are always around for a pet. It may be small but it is immaculately clean and has everything you need for a relaxing break. The outside space is lovely with covered and uncovered seating areas, gas bbq and chiminea, along with fantastic views over open countryside. The good WiFi was a real bonus too - we took a laptop for streaming films and live TV as there is no TV in the hut. There is a good farmshop with a restaurant just down the road and the villages of Beadlam & Nawton (with pub & takeaways) are a five minute walk. The beautiful town of Helmsley is also just a 5 minute drive away and is a good starting point for various walks. Fiona is a super friendly and most helpful host.
