  • "We loved the property, beds so comfortable!"

Mainly really clean but it does need a good cobwebbing, high ceilings. Could see lots of cobwebs and on the light fittings. Only 5 minutes drive into Whitby, even on a main road we all slept well. We did get slugs in the building after heavy rain, they came through the bottom of the door. Very unpleasant, luckily my dogs didn’t eat them! We had to put the dishwasher on twice per day due not being enough crockery and glasses, would have been nice to have extra to save wasting electricity.

  • "Very nice place to stay although the let has been around for some time now and things are getting worn with use."

A wardrobe drawer was found to be broken when we arrived and could not be used during our stay. It was reported but no repair was offered during our time there. Brushes do not last forever, ours was well past it and there is no place to dry clothes other than outside, weather permitting. A clothes drying rack would be a handy item as not everything is able to go into a drier, which there is no drier at Abbey View, just the washing machine. I paid a visit to the campsite laundry room, quite expensive if you only wish to dry a few items. A clothes drying rack gets my vote.

The beds were so comfortable and the site so quiet that after an energetic day with our dogs we slept like logs. There are 2 pubs that serve food and are dog friendly within a mile walk ( although one is down a very steep hill) we caught the bus at the park and ride to Whitby across the road and visited the nursery next to the park and ride site also dog friendly. I would definitely book this cottage if staying in the area again.

The beds are very comfortable and the en-suite showers are very powerful. The negatives are, the cottage was dirty the tops were clean but the skirting boards and floors were filthy, cobwebs in the lounge and the rug needed a good vacuum luckily we took covers for the settee. The kitchen needs more glasses, cups and cutlery. We requested the bedroom was set up as a king size and cottage was clean as two of us have MS but unfortunately neither were actioned. The outside area has good parking for two cars and secure for our two small dogs. The road noise is loud but didn’t effect us plus we took two sun loungers. There is a great field for dog walking just around the corner away from the main road which has a hard surface suitable for our scooters. We would visit again but please address the cleaning.

  • "After a 8.5 hour journey (2 stops en-route for the dogs), we were disappointed to find lip marks on 1 of the glasses in the cupboard, dirty smudges on 2 other glasses, food remains on a fork in the drawer plus a cracked wine glass which had been left in the cupboard."

This left us needing to wash all glasses, crockery and cutlery etc so wasn’t the best start to the holiday after a full on journey to get there. As we’ve found with most holiday properties, the dishwasher was out of salt and rinse aid. Not sure what had been sprayed in the fridge either but the smell took our breath away for most of the week. Another negative was the very fast, busy and noisy road which was right alongside the property and meant we had to sleep with the windows closed to help muffle the noise, so it got quite warm. This closeness to a busy national speed limit road wasn’t clear in the listing description when we booked but we think should be mentioned. All that said, this accommodation worked well for us as a family. It was a decent size and the enclosed garden space was a huge bonus for the dogs. It was an ideal spot for quick access into Whitby and surrounding areas of interest. The dog walking area was great. Shop and pub were also just minutes away too. In fact, we knew the cottage was empty on the evening we were due to travel home. We were out on the Wednesday evening so text the contact number given to see if we could pay the extra to stay another night on the Saturday. We were told someone would get back to us. They didn’t so on the Thursday we went over to reception and asked. Again, we were told they’d see if this was possible and someone would give us a call. Again, they didn’t so we left we an overall bitter taste from this holiday experience here…that’s after stripping the beds and hoovering up first. Seems guests have to do more and more to ‘protect’ the cleaners (we assume from Covid still) but cleaners can leave properties with some inadequate levels of cleanliness. Overall, a nice place but with a few lets downs.

Without a doubt,a fine place to stay and so close to Whitby. Perfect.

We stayed in April last year and advised the listing incorrectly showed the cottage as detached and close to sea. No change has been made to either on your site description. All that said great showers , comfy bed and excellent parking and kitchen.

Thank you for your feedback. The sea is only a mile away from the property, we will make this clearer on the website. just 5 minutes away from Whitby and 10 Minutes away from goathland. The kitchen was really well equipped and the beds/sofa really comfy. All new furniture and you could see a lot of detail has been put into this property. The waterfall shower was great. I would definitely stay here again. The garden was great however as a small dog owner I feel the gate could have been more secure as there are large gaps in between the wood which my dogs could escape from, nothing a bit of chicken wire wouldn’t fix to put me at ease. The toilet seat was loose in one of the rooms and the flusher didn’t work too well, and the shower seal is lose when she shower door is closed, just a note to look at getting fixed but this didn’t in anyway impact our lovely stay. Could do with leaving a bit more toilet roll and a kitchen worktop spray. Thank you for a lovely stay, the biscuits we got on arrival were a lovely touch and very tasty.

The enclosed garden was perfect for my dog and the beds were very comfy. A couple of things of note - there were no pint glasses in the property and I think it would benefit from having some as there's pretty much everything else. Then there's the washing machine - it isn't housed properly and when it went into a spin cycle the noise was horrendous as it was banging against the wall and cupboard door. I had to wrestle with it to stop it moving while my dad reached in to switch it off at the wall until it came to a halt. It certainly provided us with a good laugh but could do with being looked at. • "Abbey View has obviously been done to a very high standard and we found it very comfortable and really enjoyed our stay."

However, a few minor details let it down slightly. The welcome pack was akin to a budget hotel with cheap coffee and UHT milk- this little detail on arrival can make all the difference, although the biscuits were really good. It’s not clear in the information that the house is situated next to a very busy and noisy road with a constant stream of traffic at all times of day and night. Although we did get used to it, it was wasn’t as peaceful as we would’ve liked. Situated on the outskirts of Whitby, it was a fair walk into the centre, but the park and ride was a few minutes walk at the top of the road, much handier than taking the car in. A local hotel was situated there too, which was excellent for food and drinks and a great place to sit out on sunny night. The house had great selection of kitchen equipment etc, but sadly lacking in enough dinnerware and glasses, ( no beer glasses) so meant constantly washing dishes as there wasn’t enough without putting the dishwasher all the time. More concerning was the washing machine. I mistakenly put it on early one morning, but had to stop if half way through as it tried to make a bid for freedom, jumping about during the spin cycle. I shudder to think what would’ve happened if we had put it on before going out!! All in all, a lovely holiday home. These issues are not complaints but for the cost of a week staying here, you expect certain standards. A few tweaks would make all the difference.
