  • "Wonderful holiday for all the family and dogs!"

    Very homely and comfortable.

  • "It was like walking into the past a beautiful house with a very calm atmosphere, in a lovely private setting, it was a real treat for our large family to all be together in such grand accommodation and grounds."

We turned off our mobile phones and the TV and had a week of family activities walking to the beach and lighthouse, playing football and rounders in the garden, the children really loved us adults playing along with them. In the evenings we had Drama’s, a Murder Mystery night, played Card and Board games, Snooker and had a couple of Karaoke evenings and we laughed a lot. The luxury of having a large private house like Highcliffe Manor was so refreshing and although we did venture out to Scarborough and York the rest of the week we stayed in and made the most of our time together in such a house. The kitchen is very well set up and includes a dishwasher which made self-catering for all 20 of us a lot easier and we also used the BBQ and we ate out on the terrace. We ordered our food shops online and these were delivered to us at Highcliffe Manor with no problems which is a bonus when catering for large groups. There is also a local cooperative store just minutes away which we used for bread and milk etc. We were able to do some washing of clothes and there was a good washing line but a dryer is also available. The bedrooms all had ensuites and these were comfortable and adequate. Our week at Highcliffe Manor was an experience for all of us and we all had a brilliant time and we will never forget our trip to Yorkshire. A big thank you to Richard who was always a text message or phone call away if we needed anything and that was most reassuring.

  • "Lovely large property ideal for big group of friends."

Downstairs really good, spacious rooms, nice hot tub and the bar was great. Richard who showed us around was friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable about the area. Sadly, the bedrooms let the property down. The master bedroom was nice, although needed a bit of tlc (curtains fell off rail when drawing) but not a huge problem. Many of the other bedrooms were lacking in basic comforts with not enough storage and one didn’t even have a mirror. The biggest drawback to the property was the bathrooms. Water pressure poor and water to master bedroom never really hot (bath water bright yellow). Carpets in bathrooms are not really hygienic. One bathroom did not have any sort of shower attachment for hair washing. We paid for nine en-suite bedrooms but the shower in one room was broken with the pieces on the floor. We were told it should be fixed on the Monday but this never happened so one room was basically unusable for the whole week. With just a few tweaks and an upgrade of the bathrooms this property would be excellent and more than worthy of a four or five star rating. Such a shame. All in all we still enjoyed our stay but as we're an older group we found the bathroom situation challenging.

Thank you for your feedback Sharon. If you had some issues during your stay I wished you had called, when I met with you to let you in, I said if there was anything at all to call me, I could have popped round to see you and try look at anything and resolve where possible. I do not know what storage you feel was missing, all the rooms have drawers and wardrobes, certainly enough to cater for guests and their clothing etc, and all have basic comforts, we even provide hair dyers for each room. I have looked at each bathrooms and checked the pressures and they are fine, you may have experienced a drop in pressure if you were using multiple bathrooms/ showers etc at the same time, that is something that will occur in most properties. I am confused by the comment about the bright yellow water, the bath is fed by the same feed as the water to the rest of the house so I am not sure how that was possible, the hot water feed is also the same so I assume the rest of the bathrooms were OK. You possibly cannot have run the tap for long enough, it is a very large property and the hot water tank is a long way from the master bedroom, it does take some time to come through. I have checked this bathroom and can find no issue with the colour or temperature of the water. If you had called I could have come round to have a look for you, I wish you had as we do all we can to make peoples stay the best we can and do not like any issues. The carpets in our bathrooms are hygienic, they are regularly cleaned. I would like to clarify the situation with the shower and room you say was unusable for the week. When I met you and showed you around the house I did explain a shower had developed a leak and was out of order and said we were hoping to have a part for it on the Monday, you told me it was not an issue as you only needed eight bedrooms, so could avoid using that one. I never promised a day it would be fixed, only that we would do our best to try have it fixed during your stay. Shower parts were left in the shower, I apologise if this bothered you, I could have removed them for you. The room was available to use and the bathroom was too, albeit without the shower. As this room has a sea view, I did suggest that you could still use it and leave the bedroom opposite as the unused room, and use that one for a shower. It is unfortunate the the shower part was delayed in coming so we were unable to fix the shower during your stay, but you had use of all nine rooms. I would urge you to let people know ASAP if you have any concerns or issues, as most of us will do all we can to make you happy during your stay, I am disappointed that you did not call, I would have done all I could for you and your group. I am glad you still enjoyed your stay and do hope you manged to spot the Puffins during your walks from the house. Best regards Richard Property Owner

  • "A superb place for a birthday celebration (85!"

). The bar, which opens onto a television lounge, had all the right atmosphere (so come prepared with the drinks) and was ideal for decoration (balloons etc.). The weather was "warmish" and we did not feel the effects of storm "H" (which affected the south and west of us).. In fact it was perfect with light winds for the time of year so beach activity occurred every day. The hot tub was well used the whole time (from 9 years old to 87)..
