  • "We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage."

    Lovely comfy bed and quality bedding. Kitchen had everything we needed for our stay. We would definitely return. The only improvement I would have wanted would have been another chair downstairs as there was only one armchair. Delightful cottage with lovely walks from the door.

    Very clean on arrival and comfortable bed and living area. Kitchen was modern and has all the required appliances to be able to self cater. Plenty of parking near the cottage, which was a bonus. Would highly recommend this cottage.

  • "We loved the cottage."

    We liked the layout and while there was no TV downstairs, we were prepared for this and took a laptop with us. The living room upstairs was very comfortable and we enjoyed our evenings in the space. I also have to note that the bed was very comfortable we are fussy so this is important to us. Kirkbymoorside is a nice village and is well placed for enjoying the beautiful countryside and surrounding villages. Highly recommend this cottage.

  • "This is a lovely traditional cottage in an ideal location to explore the north York moors."

    Surprisingly spacious and incredibly cosy it had everything we needed to make our week away special. The tight, steep staircases and low ceilings only added to the charm of the place.

  • "The cottage was lovely and clean and liked the welcome milk and biscuits, loved the kitchen/dining area and we spent most of our time in there."

    It was unfortunately 2 floors down to the fridge if you were in the lounge in the evening. The location was really good, very close to pubs and shops/takeaways and was an ideal base to explore. I was disappointed with the outside space as it was much smaller than expected and as the plants were overgrown and full of mosquito's and flies it was impossible to sit out without being bitten, also it left no room to use the BBQ which was provided.

    Very comfortable and a lovely cosy fire to enjoy after a long day of walking. Everything was there that you could require for your stay and perfectly clean. Great location with pubs and shops nearby - not that they’re open anymore, but thankfully they were during our stay. Definitely a great place to stay.

  • "The Crooked cottage is fab!"

    Central for shops or a stroll to the pub with good walks across the woods behind the house. The bed and sofa were both very comfy and the Christmas tree was special. With extras such as fab fruit cake and a full decanter with cute little glasses just added the finishing touch to a great beak away. Would highly recommend to anyone.

    Loved how quirky it was. We only stayed over a couple of nights so that we could visit the North York Moors Railway for their Steam Gala. Enjoyed coming back to the cottage in the evening. It was well equipped, cosy and surprisingly spacious.

  • "Lovely cottage, comfortable (especially the bed)."

    We hardly used the lounge, not because it was not comfortable but two flights of stairs if you want to top your glass was a bit of a pain, however the upside was that we watched little television and spent time reading and doing a jigsaw which is what a holiday is for! The sitting out area was smaller than I expected and even though it was pleasant it does not get the sun. There is are lovely walks behind the cottage into Manor Vale Woods for long or short walks, handy for an evening stroll for the dog. The village had excellent amenities, a butchers, greengrocers, bakery, Indian, Chinese and chip shop as well as a Spar and Co-op and there is a larger Co-op and Lidl in Pickering (7 miles) for a bigger more varied shop. Lots to do in the area which makes the cottage ideal as a base. Jane (the owner) left us milk, cake and eggs, changed the linen after the first week and left us another 6 eggs.

    Steep windy stairs may not be suitable for anybody elderly or inform. Owner had left several lovely welcome touches including free range eggs, milk and fruitcake . Lovely area with pubs and tea shops just around the corner and some very good local woodland walks. Area new to us and we enjoyed exploring York and Whitby and highly recommend the North Yorks Steam Railway at Pickering.

  • "Spent a smashing week in Kirkbymoorside as we have done for the last four years, unfortunately we had more than our fair share of rain, but it did not spoil our holiday or dampen the reception we received from all the local folk."

    We will be back next year................. Next year we will be looking closely at the staircases in the cottages, at our age it became a pain to go up and down two staircases to access the lounge from the kitchen dining area, especially as the staircases are narrow and twisty. (I can understand why there is a trap door in the ceiling.}

  • "Crooked Cottage was quirky, as advertised, and that was part of its charm."

    It was very well prepared for our arrival, and we appreciated the fresh-cut flowers and the food and drink offerings that welcomed us. It was ideal for two, with a small back yard and table and chairs, surrounded by a bank of container flowers and some stone walling. A great retreat, and an opportunity to meet the neighbours, if you wish. Our one reservation about the cottage was the two flights of narrow stairs - plenty to hold on to, but possibly a challenge for the elderly, infirm or disabled. The Cottage was ideally located in a quiet part of the village, but only two or three minutes' walk from shops and the King's Head Hotel, a friendly venue which serves excellent meals. Everyday needs are well served by the local shops, and the local pharmacy even sells "medicinal" wine! Kirkbymoorside is a delightful, characterful, historic small town with a Wednesday market. It attracts visitors, but is not inundated with them! It's also an ideal base for touring the North Yorkshire Moors and Whitby, where we commuted to the Folk festival a couple of times, and were able to park centrally - in peak season! - by arriving early and breakfasting there. It's a 45 minute drive, but passes quickly and pleasantly enough with so much moorland scenery to enjoy en route.
