  • "A perfect cottage for a peaceful break in a quiet village, we had everything we needed including unexpected strong WiFi !"

Slept well in comfortable beds and all rooms well heated no need to use the log burner. Clean tidy and well decorated throughout and the horseshoe pub next door serving good food and a good range of beers, very enjoyable stay.

  • "How happy were we with our stay?"

It was our second stay there and we will book our third stay next year. Nice house and nice owners in a nice village. Lots of walks from the door, easy access to the NYMR and only a 40/50 minute drive to the coast. A couple of tips; If you want a meal in the pub (dog and hiker friendly) book it well in advance, before you go unless you are well and truly off season. If you don't want to haul a lot of supplies with you, Pickering (15minutes away) has a Co op and Lidl plus lots of smaller shops and you can get a grocery delivery to the front door from Sainsburys.

Thank you so much David we’ll look forward to welcoming you back next year Best wishes Pam and Ian Property Owner

  • "Third year staying at this property, can’t beat it for location in between Scarborough and Whitby."

Pickering just up the road, Levisham station if you are into steam trains is a short walk away. In fact you don’t need to get in the car for walking trails as they start right from the front door. Situated right next to a dog friendly pub. Every year Pam the owner phones up a couple of days before your stay to give you a brief about the arrangement with the local pub and other relevant information (such as check the Tide times !!) and sends you a text message about what’s out and about. The rear property garden is large and enclosed and ideal for out blind dog. Would thoroughly recommend this property A +++

The house is spacious but cosy and well equipped. The garden is excellent for dogs as is enclosed and a good size. Heating is efficient and instructions for the cottage clear. There is parking next to the cottage off the road and there is a useful boot room to store muddy boots and coats etc.. Close to several footpaths onto the Moors and down through Newton dale. A peaceful and attractive cottage in a unique village.

Helpful phone call from the owner before arrival, how happy were we with the cottage? I'm looking to book it again later in the year. Lovely big fridge freezer if you need to take anything with you or buy things to take home. Lots of walks from the cottage but if you walk to Levisham Station with a dog you will have to lift it over the stile (unusual for the Moors).

The enclosed garden was great for our dog, he loved it. There are some fantastic walks from the door onto the moors, we also had a few steam railway trips from Levisham station and having the pub close by was a bonus! All in all a perfect holiday!

  • "What a find."

This cottage ticks all the boxes. Just like home, well better than home, because we don't have a pub next door at home. My only request would be to have a smart speaker in the kitchen, but otherwise everything was better than expected. We had some lovely walks, although we passed on the walk down to the station because our dog couldn't jump over the stile at the top of the hill, and the walk along the road was very narrow in places, so we used the car. Park all day only £3, [Pickering is £7], but then you will have to get the train The pub next door, was very busy and we had to book 2 days in advance, even then they could be fully booked. Cant wait to return to Manor Cottage, as I said earlier what a find. Many thanks to the owners for renting this property. 5 stars

Lovely pub next door but definitely need to book in advance as it was booked up all week. The road to Levisham is pretty steep both sides of the valley with hairpin bend, car struggled a bit, wouldn't fancy doing it in bad weather. The cottage could do with a blind on the front landing window.

Thank you so much for your positive feedback. We have added the addition of a blind on the landing to our winter jobs Property Owner

  • "The cottage was dirty and not as described."

We spent the first hour of our holiday cleaning the kitchen. The shelves were very dirty. There was a cupboard full of out of date food - some food was over 11 years past its best before date. The knives were broken and the oven gloves were completely unusable. There was rubbish under all the beds and thick cobwebs everywhere. Pretty disappointed by the outcome of our complaints. I do have photographs which I will be sharing now.

Thank you for your feedback, we were very sorry to hear about your experience. We aim to contact all our visitors prior to arrival so they feel able to contact us directly and issues can be dealt with quickly. Of course we have raised these issues with our very accommodating cleaning company who pride themselves on the excellence of their service. This is reflected in the 100% feedback score for the 6 months prior to your visit, and the wonderful comments in our visitors book. Property Owner

It was very comfortable which was just as well as the weather was not that good. It was handy for the places we like to visit then we could come back to a proper log fire. .We would definitely like to back in future. My one niggle was the lack of pans to cook a meal. There was only a very large frying pan and a very large pan that when filled with water and potatoes just for two people I could not pick up.

So ideally centrally positioned for Scarborough, Whitby and if you like walking can walk straight from the front door without ever taking the car out. Levisham station is a mile and a half walk to the station if you like steam trains though it is a challenging steep walk back. You can also walk to Horcum hole from here. Pam one of the owners phoned me and gave advice of where to go and sent me links of things we’ve discussed, take notice of the Tide times if she tells you if you’re thinking of going to Robin Hood Bay as you could find yourself there with the tide right in and no beach to walk on!!! Would thoroughly recommend Manor Cottage and if we come back to Yorkshire we’d definately stay there again.

  • "Lovely well equipped cottage in a beautiful location, ideally situated for Whitby, Grosmont - Goathland, Scarborough."

In fact you can walk out of the front door and enjoy stunning walks without travelling anywhere. The pub ‘The Horse Shoe Inn’ is literally next door a 20 meter walk across the grass where you can grab an excellent meal but you definitely need to book as it’s virtually impossible to walk in and just get a table! If you can’t get into ‘The Horse Shoe Inn’ then the pubs’ sister pub which is 2 and a half miles away is an excellent option, seems to be easier to book a table in here called The Fox and Rabbit’ also an excellent meal. I walked down to Levisham station a couple of times to see the steam trains it’s a one and a half mile walk ( just over 3 miles there and back) the hills on the way back are quite challenging as they are seriously steep! It’s also possible to walk to The Hole of Horcum from the cottage which is a beautiful setting. Nearest shops are back in Pickering where we stocked up out supplies, there’s a LIDL and a Spar As for the cottage itself everything thought of, well equipped and comfortable, shower wonderful after a hot sweaty day walking, washing machine and line outside to dry, everything except the two armchairs in the kitchen which for some reason didn’t have their cushions on them and we spent the majority of our time sat on these with small cushions as substitutes as it was so cool temperature wise in the kitchen area. The only other thing that we didn’t like was the recycling arrangements, everybody by now recycles and it’s instilled in us and I have no problem putting bins and boxes outside to be collected by the bin men whilst on holiday but taking our bottles to bottle banks in Pickering which is seven miles away is a no go for us!
