  • "The accommodation is well appointed and provides everything you need."

We especially appreciated the enclosed yard for our dog which gives peace of mind as the property is on a main road. It’s an excellent location to explore the area. The coastal paths and nearby woodlands provide stunning scenery and the opportunity to see plenty of wildlife. Good local facilities including some fine pubs if you are prepared to stroll a little. The small local shop seems to sell everything!

  • "We have been trusting our cottage bookings with Sykes for our holidays now for over 8 years."

We had another great stay in Brinkburn Cottage. We spent Christmas in this warm cosy accommodation. The Christmas tree was lovely and the hello hamper including gifts for us all, treats for our fur-kid and chopped fire wood made for a very warm welcome. I prepared Christmas dinner at home and there was more than sufficient kitchen equipment. Burniston has 2 great pubs to the right of the cottage and 2 great pubs to the left both less than 10 minutes walk. The ones to the left have great food tested (excellent pies!) and are very welcoming of dogs in specific areas so book to avoid disappointment. The walk on the cinder path (old railway track) via Station Road 6 minutes walk from the cottage or 2 minutes in the car leads to a beautiful path to walk children, dogs or cycle any time of year and joins villages and/or local interest points along the way. Our wintery welly visits into Scarborough (North Bay from Scalby Mills), Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay will be memorable. Thank you for making our Christmas this year really special.

Bin bags, matches, torch, all cooking utensils, towels, washing machine, secure garden for dog, hand wash, buckets and spade, pegs, they even left us some Laundry tablets and dishwasher tablets. The cottage was spotlessly clean, comfortable beds one double and two singles, decorated to a tasteful standard. We actually took are fire stick for the tv but was a smart tv so no need. Left us a lovely welcome hamper. The location was perfect literally 10mins to Scarborough and 5 minutes to Whitby, park for the kids great pub three jolly sailers which served amazing home Cooked food 10mins walk from cottage. Parking wasn’t an issue we parked directly across on the grass however the road is extremely fast and busy but again the cottage had two secure gates. Would highly recommend and can’t wait to return The Sharman family of four plus Yasmine the dog who loved the treat they left her

Ideally located for ease of reach for Scarborough and Whitby. Great pubs within walking distance. Fully enclosed and safe for our dog. Only draw back was lack of parking near to the cottage which was tricky for unloading / repacking at the start and end of our visit. When unloading and loading the car park opposite the cottage on Quarry Bank. We had an excellent holiday which was helped by the weather . On arrival, we found the cottage warm, welcoming and spotlessly clean. Comfortably furnished with everything that we needed. The welcome hamper was a lovely touch; we enjoyed the wine and snacks but also appreciated the Parking Disk - essential for trips into Scarborough! The Cottage provides an excellent base for exploring the area. Close enough to Scarborough for visiting the seaside yet situated in a village location with two pubs serving good food. No complaints but we do feel it's time to replace the keysafe, which was very difficult to open and we would have liked a lock on the bathroom door!

  • "A quaint, comfy cottage with lovely comfortable decor."

The cottage was very clean, tidy and has everything you may need for a week away near the seaside and set in beautiful countryside. Some fabulous walks very close by and a lovely old pub in the village - The Three jolly Sailors - that served homecooked yummy food. A lovely welcome basket including biscuits, wine and a treat for the dog was provided - although some milk and tea bags would have been appreciated. An enclosed back garden for the dog to run around in and watch the cheeky squirrel pinching nuts from the bird feeder was great. Nothing that the property owners can do about it but the only downside was having to park over the road, albeit on a safe side street and the road traffic noise early in a morning and at teatime. Would we return - definitely.

The attention to detail was clear throughout plus all of the information thoughtfully provided, and the welcome hamper a lovely surprise on arrival. Our 3 year old enjoyed our stay too and keeps asking when we can return! The only thing we found a little tricky to navigate was the lack of parking with a small child and the cottage being situated on quite a busy and fast road. • "We had a lovely stay."

The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped. The owners had placed so many additional touches which were all appreciated. The decor is very tasteful, and made it feel more like a little holiday for us…the seaside ornaments, driftwood, shells etc. The built in storage adds to the charm. I would say the staircase is quite steep, just something we noticed with young children, but it wouldn’t stop us from staying again. My only feedback would be security of the front door as it’s a single lock. Perhaps an additional lock / bolt on the inside door to the porch. It would have just made me feel a little more secure with 2 young children in the house. Overall, a fabulous cottage, well located, and perfect for our needs whilst visiting family close by. We’ll hopefully be back in the summer.

Secure back garden which would be great for people with children and dogs. Close to Scarborough and a dog walk close by. Pubs within walking distance which served lovely pub food. It was a really lovely few days away. My only concerns were about parking and the noise of the traffic. We couldn't park in the lay-by no matter what time we tried - it seemed to be full of cars from the garage next to it , 24 hours a day. - so we had to use the other option of parking across the road. The road traffic was quite busy, and noisy - the cars and lorries don't seem to adhere to the speeding restrictions! However I appreciate that these things are out with the control of the owners but I d think that the fact that it's on a busy road should be in the cottage description. Overall we still had a great time and I would recommend this cottage

Smelt lovely. Everything you needed was provided & the beds were super comfy. The rear garden is well fenced for inquisitive dogs! The owners are 10 mins away if you need them (we jammed the key safe!) and there is a frequent fast bus service to Scarboro Station (or North Bay) a few minutes walk into the village, which saves the hassle of parking a car. The bus also goes to Whitby via Robin Hood's Bay. I wish changeover days were not always Fridays, though - both journeys were awful, taking twice as many hours as a Thursday or a Saturday.

A lot of people have 2 dogs that need a cottage holiday. I would suggest that when searching that you put a box that you can ✔️ to say not just pets but so that when we search we can say 2 dogs.
