  • "Lovely cottage ideally situated to explore the surrounding coastal towns and beauty spots."

Cottage was clean and had good facilities. Could perhaps do with one or two upgrades (TV, dishwasher) but everything worked fine. Very generous welcome pack left for us - thank you. The only negative was the main road that the cottage is on, which is extremely busy with HGVs and speeding traffic throughout the day. However, this wouldn’t put us off returning and didn’t affect our sleep.

Could do with a bigger freezer and should be mentioned that stairs could be a problem for some people not used to them. Know it's not owners fault but parking can be a problem as near by layby seldom had any room and parking on grass verge got complaints from neighbouring property, even though it wasn't affecting them!

We especially appreciated the enclosed yard for our dog which gives peace of mind as the property is on a main road. It’s an excellent location to explore the area. The coastal paths and nearby woodlands provide stunning scenery and the opportunity to see plenty of wildlife. Good local facilities including some fine pubs if you are prepared to stroll a little. • "We have been trusting our cottage bookings with Sykes for our holidays now for over 8 years."

We had another great stay in Brinkburn Cottage. We spent Christmas in this warm cosy accommodation. The Christmas tree was lovely and the hello hamper including gifts for us all, treats for our fur-kid and chopped fire wood made for a very warm welcome. I prepared Christmas dinner at home and there was more than sufficient kitchen equipment. Burniston has 2 great pubs to the right of the cottage and 2 great pubs to the left both less than 10 minutes walk. The ones to the left have great food tested (excellent pies!) and are very welcoming of dogs in specific areas so book to avoid disappointment. The walk on the cinder path (old railway track) via Station Road 6 minutes walk from the cottage or 2 minutes in the car leads to a beautiful path to walk children, dogs or cycle any time of year and joins villages and/or local interest points along the way. Our wintery welly visits into Scarborough (North Bay from Scalby Mills), Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay will be memorable. Thank you for making our Christmas this year really special.

The cottage was very clean, tidy and has everything you may need for a week away near the seaside and set in beautiful countryside. Some fabulous walks very close by and a lovely old pub in the village - The Three jolly Sailors - that served homecooked yummy food. A lovely welcome basket including biscuits, wine and a treat for the dog was provided - although some milk and tea bags would have been appreciated. An enclosed back garden for the dog to run around in and watch the cheeky squirrel pinching nuts from the bird feeder was great. Nothing that the property owners can do about it but the only downside was having to park over the road, albeit on a safe side street and the road traffic noise early in a morning and at teatime. Would we return - definitely.

The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped. The owners had placed so many additional touches which were all appreciated. The decor is very tasteful, and made it feel more like a little holiday for us…the seaside ornaments, driftwood, shells etc. The built in storage adds to the charm. I would say the staircase is quite steep, just something we noticed with young children, but it wouldn’t stop us from staying again. My only feedback would be security of the front door as it’s a single lock. Perhaps an additional lock / bolt on the inside door to the porch. It would have just made me feel a little more secure with 2 young children in the house. Overall, a fabulous cottage, well located, and perfect for our needs whilst visiting family close by. Secure back garden which would be great for people with children and dogs. Close to Scarborough and a dog walk close by. Pubs within walking distance which served lovely pub food. It was a really lovely few days away. My only concerns were about parking and the noise of the traffic. We couldn't park in the lay-by no matter what time we tried - it seemed to be full of cars from the garage next to it , 24 hours a day. - so we had to use the other option of parking across the road. The road traffic was quite busy, and noisy - the cars and lorries don't seem to adhere to the speeding restrictions! However I appreciate that these things are out with the control of the owners but I d think that the fact that it's on a busy road should be in the cottage description.
