A special mention to Brenda and Dave who made us feel welcome and were full of useful information of places to visit, eat and drink. They were sociable whenever we met them, but not to intrusive and respected our privacy. It was my wife’s birthday when we were away and they left a card and a gift for her on our arrival. This accommodation was well equipped, spotlessly clean, cosy and comfortable. There was a more than generous 'welcome pack'. There's a large TV with all sorts of features and good Wifi. The property has designated parking, a well equipped kitchen and an excellent shower. For those interested in train spotting - half a dozen pass by each day. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary so on top of the cake milk and biscuits they provided we were then given a card and bottle of proseco. which was gratefully accepted. The cottage was spotless and had everything we needed The pictures do not do the cottage justice as it was more spacious than we thought, The bathroom and shower were exceptional. The covid packs that were left for us was a great idea even down to rubbing down towels plus an umbrella and walking stick. The railway viewing platform is a must for the railway buffs. The outside converted waiting room was ideal for a nightcap or early tea or coffee.. Overall we would thoroughly recommend this cottage to all. Loftus itself is very run down due to the economic climate the local pubs did not serve meals but travel 2.5 miles to Easington and The Tiger Inn is spot on.

A lovely surprise was a welcome pack, the milk especially was a nice thought and very useful. Halfway through our week's stay we were brought clean towels, which was great and certainly not expected. • "There is actually no rear garden to sit in."

Just a concrete yard with a seat and table overlooking a broken down fence. You can sit in the front garden which belongs to the owner but it's next to the road. The cottage is ideally located for all the local seaside places Saltburn, Runswick Bay etc. Don't be put of with its location. Loftus, well the less said about that the better.!!!!! Particularly liked the hessian sacks up to the windows at the pub down the road.!!!!!!

  • "The property was absolutely beautiful."

The owners had decorated for Christmas for us and left a Christmas card and crackers, which was a really nice touch. We also found a bottle of fizz in the fridge and a Christmas cake and shortbread! They couldn't have been more helpful when we left a coat behind; the lady sent it first class and refused our offer to pay for postage. We had the best time and it made our first Christmas as Mr and Mrs a truly memorable one.

The photos were actually of the owners garden - we just had a tarmacked yard- & no trains at all when we were there.

It was clean and is decorated to a high standard. The hosts were friendly and welcoming and the little extras they supplied was very generous. We felt very comfortable and relaxed during our stay. The immediate area seemed run down but it is a great base for exploring the Yorkshire coast and as it is on the edge of the Moors, some of Yorkshires' beautiful scenic views are around the corner. Saltburn-by-the-Sea was lovely with a nice beach and good facilities.

The property

This charming studio cottage is part of the former station master's house, in the hamlet of Liverton Mines on the outskirts of Loftus village.

Offering all ground floor accommodation, the property has been tastefully modernised to a high standard.

Entry is via a porch to a small kitchen, which leads into the spacious open plan studio, which incorporates a comfortable sitting area, a dining table and a double bed, plus there is a contemporary fully-tiled shower room.

With fine attention to detail, the property feels warm and welcoming, in a pleasant setting.

Outside, to the rear is a private patio garden, directly adjacent to a commercial goods train line, with six trains trundling by each day.

This is not a fast or noisy line, and will undoubtedly interest railway enthusiasts.

In fact, part of the fencing has been cut away to afford a better view!

Close to some lovely sandy beaches and excellent walking trails, this station annexe is well placed for couples wishing to explore the beautiful surrounding countryside and the popular seaside towns of Saltburn and Whitby.

The nearby fishing villages of Staithes and Runswick Bay have strong Captain Cook connections, with small, pretty coves, coble landings and quaint, tiny fishermen's cottages that tumble down towards the sea.

Explore the narrow, cobbled alleyways and partake in coffee and cakes on the waterfront.

The wide expanses of the North York Moors are on the doorstep, with many attractions, including fishing on the nearby Scaling Dam, the Danby Moors Tourist and Exhibition Centre and the steam railway at Grosmont.

An excellent base for a varied and interesting holiday.

About the location

Saltburn-by-the-Sea 4 miles; Hinderwell 6 miles; Whitby 14 miles.

The village of Loftus lies 14 miles north of Whitby on the east coast of Yorkshire. Originally an old alum mining village, it comprises terraced houses, old stone cottages and a few grand stone dwellings. The long and lively main street hosts a variety of shops, eateries, pubs, banks and an impressive town hall. Lying behind the main street is a leisure centre with an excellent swimming pool. Loftus is well placed for discovering the small coastal villages of Runswick Bay and Staithes, the latter being a popular choice for artists. Four miles to the north is the elegant spa town of Saltburn with its golf club and long pier stretching over the wide sands. The stunning North Yorkshire Moors countryside is on the doorstep and the Jurassic fossil coast lies to the south.
