  • "Spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated, very well equipped cosy cottage."

    Great location for visiting the surrounding area. Marske has a lovely beach and a coastal walk to neighbouring Saltburn. Staithes, Guisborough, Runswick Bay, Roseberry Topping, Northallerton, Great Ayton all within easy reach and well worth a visit.

  • "Overall we had a lovely week and the cottage was perfect for our needs, near beautiful beaches for walks, on a good bus route so we could walk further along the coast and bus back."

    Also a good supermarket only a few minutes walk away. The cottage was more spacious than we expected and the bathroom lovely, especially the big bath. The conservatory a nice area to sit. We stayed during very hot weather but the cottage did not get too hot.The bed was very comfy and it was nice to have the welcome pack. There were plenty of little extras including toilet rolls, kitchen roll, hand soap dispensers and tea and coffee. A few tweaks would make the cottage perfect. The garden area was very overgrown which was not as shown in the photo and the area needed a good sweep and tidy. There were no blinds in the bathroom and kitchen windows which would be a real privacy problem in winter when it gets dark early. The carpets were nice but the hard floors were not clean. Overall a lovely cared for cottage in a nice quiet area with the bonus of a private parking space. Marske by the sea is a hidden gem.

We have been allowing the green area to grow into a wild garden but with the sunshine it has grown wilder than expected so will give it a cut back soon. The leaves do blow into the garden though.   • "We booked a last minute short stay at Salt cottage."

    Firstly thank you for providing a lovely pet free property. We don't have pets and my husband is allergic, so this is a must for us. The cottage was very nicely presented and more spacious than we anticipated. We instantly felt at home. The conservatory and outdoor seating were great and helped us make the most of the good weather. Marske itself really surprised us, with plenty of amenities, shops, bars, cafes and restaurants and the bonus of being only a short walk to the beautiful beach. We wished we could have stayed longer. There is so much to see and do nearby, and down the coast. We would not hesitate to book again, definitely for longer next time!

  • "We had a good stay but sadly a major issue was the poor cleanliness of the kitchen and living room floors."

    They were very dirty. The rug in the living room was also very dirty and had not been cleaned. We did use the floor mop but it was still very dirty. It really needs a proper scrub down. In the end we brought slippers and my 10 month old baby we had to ensure was never placed directly on the floor. Minor issues: Toilet seat in ensuite is lose No hair dryer Parking seems to be an issue as neighbors not happy with our 2nd car and asked us to park over at the CoOp (which we did). We had parked out the way but they seem to struggle due to other cars to manoeuvre in and out of their drive. I would suggest stating there is only parking for 1 car and additional parking can be found eg CoOp on holiday description and folder. The cottage did however have good facilities, well equipped kitchen, good clean bathrooms. Just a real shame the kitchen and living room floor were terribly dirty.

  • "What a superb holiday cottage!"

    This was our second visit and it didn't disappoint. The new bathroom was amazing and both the showers were excellent. The cottage was spotless and is extremely well equipped. The owners had thought of everything. The welcome pack with the lemon cake was very welcome after a long journey. The cottage is well placed for the beach and local restaurants. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back.

  • "Lovely stay in Marske by the sea!"

    The cottage was fully equipped with literally everything you need. Great to have milk coffee and cake on arrival! Very handy location to explore the area. Lots of shops on the high street if self catering and restaurants/ takeaways if not. A regular bus service took us to Whitby with stops along the way to Staithes and Runswick Bay. Will def be back!

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at Salt Cottage."

    Had everything you needed. Main bathroom was amazing. Lovely big shower. Well equipped throughout. Morning coffee in the sunny conservatory was a great start to the day. Thanks for the lemon drizzle cake which went down well. Ideally situated and although just off the High Street in Marske it was very quiet. The owner was very accommodating. Great Sunday lunch at the local pub and two good restaurants just a stones throw away as well as the usual take aways. Plenty of good walks too.

  • "Beautiful cottage with great facilities."

    Easy to access the beach & we enjoyed a beach walk to Saltburn. Highly recommend Lockers fish n chips just a few minutes walk away. Coop close too for essentials. Not far from Whitby which has a park n ride operating over the spring & summer. Cottage was v comfortable & quiet.

  • "This was a much needed break for 2 aging "carers" and it met all our requirements."

    The beds were lovely and comfortable as were the sofa's. The property was clean and warm and the kitchen adequately stocked. From the property details I wasn't sure if a dishwasher was included so in case anybody else isn't clear......there is a dishwasher. Yey. . We were even lucky with the weather especially on Feb 15th when we took a stroll along Scarborough sea front. The sun was shining and it was warm at 18c with a lovely warm sea breeze. . For those with children, the garden is small but secure and there's a gate which leads onto a footpath with access to what looked like a well equipped children's park and also another "gym" park for those that like a good work out. . We loved the ultra modern bathroom with super shower and large bath and the en-suite shower room and downstairs toilet were a bonus as well. . The hosts must have known that lemon drizzle cake is my favourite because they very kindly left us one......thankyou. ;-) . The local area is also very well served with very many different retailers and all within walking distance.....and the people are lovely and friendly. Would we consider booking again? Yes we would.....without a doubt. :-)

    It is well situated to bars, shops and the bus route. A ten minute walk to a lovely stretch of beach. Marske by the sea is a gem of a holiday destination.

  • "This is a brilliantly situated cottage, well maintained and tastefully furnished."

    Its near shops, pubs, restaurants and childrens play park, and only 10mins walk to beach. I found the host to be very generous and thoughtful with welcome pack of assortment of teas, coffees, sugar, milk and cake. It was also a refreshing change to have ample supply of such things as soap powder, cleaning product and toilet rolls, without having to immediately run out purchase them ourselves, as often is the case. I was very impressed by the whole set up of the property. I would love to visit again and would not hesitate to recommend this property to my family and friends. Many thanks for a great holiday.

  • "We had a lovely holiday at Salt Cottage, this holiday home beats the rest by a long way."

    Super comfortable with quality fixtures and fittings, beautifully decorated and accessorised throughout. Lots of games and entertainment at the cottage to keep kids occupied on rainy days. The location was great, with Saltburn and Redcar within walking distance and only a short walk to a supermarket, the local playground and plenty of places to eat out, Home From Home. Would recommend this property to anyone.

Your home away from home

This quaint little cottage sits in the little coastal town of Marske-By-The-Sea, just half a mile from a sandy beach and has access from the garden to the park behind the cottage with outdoor gym area and children’s play area.

Sleeping up to six, Salt Cottage is a lovely escape for a family looking to experience the North East coast.

Head through to the well-equipped kitchen/diner, where you will find an electric oven and hob, microwave, and fridge/freezer, so you can easily conjure up a feast.

Off the living room is a handy utility room with a washing machine, so you can easily pop your muddy clothes on a wash!

Spend your down time in the lounge or conservatory, both equipped with ample seating, discussing the day’s events, or planning, or relax and watch TV or a DVD.

As the night grows darker, whisk away upstairs and choose between three tasteful bedrooms including a king-size with en-suite shower, a double room and bunk bedroom.

Start your morning routine in the bathroom, choosing between a bath or walk-in shower, before preparing a coffee and sitting within the enclosed garden.

When you’re ready to explore, the village of Marske-By-The-Sea is home to a good selection of shops, bistros and pubs which cater for all the family, plus the sandy safe beaches just a short walk away are perfect for a day out.

You can also take the cycle route to nearby Saltburn-by-the-sea, a lovely trail through countryside, allotments, and gardens by bike or on foot.

Other nearby attractions to add to your itinerary include Captain Cook’s birthplace, the Zetland Lifeboat Museum, Kirkleatham Museum and Walled Garden and the mining museum, whilst the stunning scenery of the North York Moors is nearby.

If you fancy a walk through nature and some beautiful green spaces, Errington Woods is close by and Preston Park offers riverside walks, a children's adventure play area and a museum.

Or you can take in the sea air and walk along the beach to either Redcar or Saltburn and have refreshments along the way; there are also regular bus services to Middlesbrough and the historic town of Whitby, stopping at all the coastal resorts en-route.

Salt Cottage is a wonderful escape, whatever time of year.

Originally an old fishing village, today it has a selection of local shops and pubs, which cater for all the family, plus the safe, sandy beaches, sand dunes and fishing boats are an enticing attraction. Places of interest nearby include Captain Cook's birthplace, the mining museum, and the Zetland Lifeboat Museum. Within easy reach of this quaint village is a horse riding centre, the stunning scenery of the North York Moors, through which runs a steam railway line, and the numerous pretty inland villages and fishing villages including Staithes and Runswick Bay. The old Victorian spa town of Saltburn is just 3 miles away and it's an easy drive to other seaside resorts such as Whitby. A great base from which to tour the area.
