We would of liked 2 armchairs rather than a sofa though it was comfy.
Lovely surprise of the pet bed which our dog enjoyed, bed was comfy too, and towels nice and soft. Nice welcome basket. Outside area needed a bit of weeding and outside seat a little suspect when sitting on. Maybe some of the photos need changing as items have change also. But did have a lovely week. Marske by the sea was a lovely place with friendly people.
Ideal location, close to all shops, restaurants, pubs etc, loved our first stay in Marske.
The accommodation was comfortable and offered all we needed, the only negatives - The top half of the stairs had no handrail which would have been helpful Some cosmetic updating - paintwork in the bathroom, some radiators needed painting as rust showing through Some of the double glazed units in the front window had blown Block paving at the front needed weeding to improve the appearance Some of the dishes and glasses were not clean which should have been checked prior to our booking
What a lovely stay!
Marske-by-the-Sea is beautiful, with the beach, cafés, shops and excellent local bus service all close by. The cottage was comfortable, peaceful and very quiet, the only thing i would mention to improve a couple of more towels as two bath towels for a week wasn't enough however there was a washer. Also an air fryer instead of a slow cooker would have been more uselful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return. Thank you!
Witts End is a plesant cottage at the end of a cobbled alley.
On arrival Elizabeth had left a welcome pack which was greatly appreciated. Elizabeth was very responsive, replying to any query within the hour, she was very nice to talk to. The cottage was spotless. There is a large bedroom with a comfortble bed, We only gave 4 star's becuase we would have benefited from having the option of a summer quilt, especially as the weather was quite hot. It could be put in the ottaman at the bottom of the bed, so you could have a choice. Although there is no direct parking space, parking is on the co-op carpark, but it isnt a problem as its only 2 minutes walk away. The co-op is open from 6am to 11pm so very handy. The village has lots of independant coffee shops and a really nice atmosphere with very friendly people. There is a park about 4 minutes walk away which was nice to take the dog to every morning. The beach is about 15 minutes walk away through another plesant park. All in all, a great place to stay to explore North Yorkshire. Thank you Elizabeth for making us feel so welcome.
Small and comfortable property.
All fixtures and fittings available and functional. Owner was very helpful and the welcome pack was greatly appreciated. Key box was a bit fiddly until you got the hang of it. All in all a nice property in a great location.
Had an enjoyable time.
An excellent location to access the area. Our only concerns were that there was only a partial bannister on the stairs. The top half had nothing to hold onto. The bath was very narrow and the base was not flat so getting in and out was difficult as was standing to shower. We coped by helping each other. I have listed this to help others. As I said initially we had a good time The Tver was excellent as was the welcoming pack thank you.

As a traditional cottage, it does come with a standard UK cast-iron bath rather than a modern walk-in shower, and we completely appreciate that they’re not everyone’s cup of tea! We were happy with accommodation but felt the need to wipe some surfaces down including the bannister.
We also found difficulty with the key lock. Everything else was very good the little basket of goodies was a nice touch. It is in a very central location with the coop across the road and plenty of other shops and cafes close by, also very easy walk to the beach and easy access to Saltburn, Redcar and other areas.

Cleanliness is something we take very seriously, and had we been made aware during your stay, we would have happily arranged for this to be checked straight away. Regarding the key lock, this did give us a bit of a mystery to solve after your departure. We discovered that the thumb-turn mechanism had been taken apart, which understandably made it rather difficult to operate! Thankfully, it has since been repaired and is now working as intended. The thumb turn is an important fire safety feature, allowing guests to exit quickly in an emergency without needing to find a key. Thank you again for your feedback and for highlighting the many positives of the property. Hard to find , bench outside rotten and weeds all over plant pots a mess , lounge ok tv to small and 1 in bedroom would be great , bath needs non slip mat in bath as I slipped and damaged my ribs ,fridge is rubbish doesn't keep anything cold

All of our rooms, facilities and the size of the TV are shown clearly in the listing photographs, so guests know exactly what to expect before booking. As for the bath, there was a new non-slip mat ready to use in the bathroom cupboard—it must have been playing a good game of hide and seek! Thank you for letting us know about the fridge during your stay. As soon as we were made aware of the problem, we ordered a brand-new replacement, which arrived while you were still staying with us. We always try to resolve any issues as quickly as possible. We’re also pleased that Sykes were able to help by offering a substantial goodwill refund. This was my second visit to Witts End and just as good as I remembered it.
Even better as extremely lucky with the weather. It was just myself and my westie and the welcome baskets Elizabeth had provided for both of us were lovely. The cottage is clean and everything needed is provided. Well situated being directly opposite the Co-op with 24hour free parking and close to the main square. Very quiet too. Enjoyed some lovely walks along the beach, particularly to Saltburn. I’m sure I will be back.

Parking was over the road in the Coop (and it wasn't a huge effort carrying over our bags) and the property is peaceful and quiet. Witts End was clean, comfortable and well equipped - we didn't find anything missing from the kitchen (there are plenty of utensils for example). I would have liked to vacuum midweek having a dog with us, but we had to leave the sand for the cleaner to sort. There were some helpful welcome items but with the Co-op over the road and shops down the road you can get most things you might need locally. The weather was good and we ended up turning off the heating because the property was nice and warm (we are used to colder temperatures at home)

Witts End had everything we needed and the welcome basket was excellent. It could have been cleaner though and needs a new mattress as it seemed springy. We would definitely book again.

The welcome pack was a really thoughtful touch, and we also appreciated the little extras such as tissues and washing tablets, which made settling in very easy. The cottage is ideally located right in the heart of the town, with lovely local shops just a minute or two away – we particularly enjoyed the excellent local butcher. The long, beautiful beach is also very close by, which was perfect for winter walks with the dog. Overall, it’s a fantastic base for exploring North East Yorkshire, and we would happily recommend Witts End to anyone looking for a comfortable and well-located place to stay.
Lovely cosy cottage in a quiet location close to all amenities, ideal for a short New Year break.
We particularly appreciated the welcome pack and the festive decorations. The kitchen equipment was of very high quality, nothing was lacking. We were able to reverse our car up to the door to unload and load it. Having a CAMRA pub so close by was an added bonus!

At our own home our boiler needed replacing. We were so pleased to be warm and able to have hot water at the cottage. We met Elizabeth and she was so helpful. Every facilitiy and as the coop was so near easy for supplies.

Lovely thoughtful welcome gifts, a laundry room should you need it, huge comfy bed in large bedroom, a wardrobe that looks like it could take you to Narnia (!), well stocked kitchen. Owner was always on hand for questions. Area is very dog friendly. Lots of eateries and quirky places for early evening drinks (check opening times as during low season some were closed on certain days). Beach walks and cafes all great. Handy to have Co op across the road. Left car here over night with no issues. Seemed maybe others did too? Will definitely return in the future.
The hosts were very thoughtful leaving us bread, milk, a bottle of wine and beer.
They also left a bed and treats for our dog too! Even towels for him. Ideally located in the village for eating out and the local beach. We will be back for another visit!
Our second time back at this lovely property.
It's in a great location, minutes away from the village shops, cafes and restaurants and a ten minute walk to the beautiful beach. The cottage is comfortable, a little home away from home and the owner is friendly, accommodating and responsive, dealing with any issues straight away. The fabulous welcome packs for us and our dog were much appreciated after a two hour drive. We will be back.
A lovely little cottage in a lovely little town.
Very clean and very comfortable. The cottage is right in the town centre, but tucked away so still private and quiet. 10 minutes walk to the beach and 5 minutes to a nice park ( both useful for dog owners) Marske is a very dog friendly place and the owners left some dog treats and a dog crate in the cottage, and a few extra’s for humans. A very nice gesture.
We enjoyed our stay there was a couple of things that needed repairing like the ignition knob on the cooker the whole place needs redecorating also on the listing under amenities it says it has a garden but it doesn't and no secure area for dogs so not really dog friendly
Both the cottage and Marske were a delight!
! Lovely welcome hamper and bed and accessories for the dog. The cottage is beautiful and perfect for two. We tied a long training lead to the doorstop to let the dog move around without worrying about it not being enclosed, and this worked really well for us. Parking is over the road, but on arrival and departure we reversed our car up to the cottage for loading. Local shops are great (try the butchers and bakers), and there are some great wine bar/eateries. The fish and chips at Lockers are superb.The beach and garden walk down there is fab. We walked to Saltburn and Redcar along the beach. We didn’t want to leave, and will definitely return. 10/10

Lovely welcome basket and everything was clean and well equipped for us and our dog.
We were very comfortable in this nice little cottage.Having stayed in many self catering properties I would particularly commend the following (which you don't always get) - egg cups - shower mat - lots of wooden clothes hangers! (it's the little things that count) Only slight. downsides - not enough illumination in the kitchen area - no chopping board for meat/veg - there is a bread board - and of course the parking - but you soon get used to that and the Co-op is very handy We've never been to Marske before - or even heard of it - so the area was a wonderful surprise with fantastic beaches and seaside villages. We would happily recommend the area and especially Witts End (love the name)
Great Stay, only comment I could say is Cottage could do with a Hand rail on Stairs as it is not safe as it is now

We do state that the little cottage isn’t fit for mobility issues, however the property is safe and comfortable. The cottage is lovely, perfect for two people.
It's in a great location close to the High Street and a short walk to the beach and is situated at the end of a quiet cobbled street. The cottage was clean and well equipped (although I couldn't find a chopping board). Free parking is available behind the Co-op which was only really an inconvenience when unpacking/packing. Note to dog owners - dogs were very welcome (and got a lovely welcome pack and comfy bed) but there is no enclosed outside space.
We were very impressed with the accommodation at Witts End the owners attention to detail, even providing two small torches in the bedroom, ensured a pleasent comfortable stay.
All amenities are close by and the dog friendly beach just a 15m minute walk away. There is plenty of free overnight parking just across the road. We will definitely be back
A delightful cottage.
Everywhere was 100% clean and tidy, and there were unexpected treats like milk and wine in the fridge, not to mention the bread and other little extra touches. The laundry room across the cobbles was very useful, especially when a large seagull unloaded on my husband! We met the owners, who were very nice - nothing was too much trouble even when we called them as we couldn't get the washer going. Our fault of course! We would recommend this cottage for a quiet getaway in a lovely part of the country, Dogs are made very welcome around here.. We even saw a dog's menu in one of the pubs! On the negative side, you cannot park outside the property and have to cart your stuff across the road, but it's well worth it.

It’s a gem of a place.
Secluded and quiet, which was a pleasant surprise, being so close to the centre. It had everything we needed. The village centre had it all, butcher, bakery, fruit and veg shop and several drinking establishments. The hosepipe was a bonus as our dog wouldn’t stay out of the sea. A small outdoor drinks table would have been a nice to have, as we sat outside quite often- waiting for the dog to dry off. We would definitely stay here again.
This is a fabulous property!
There is everything you could need and the bed/sofa is very comfortable. We had been left a lovely welcome basket, with bread, an elderflower drink, apples and popcorn, with milk in the fridge. The house is opposite a Co-op so handy for shopping and the beach is a shirt drive away. Fully recommend

and very comfortable. We had everything we needed for our stay and our host left us a lovely welcome basket. The location of the cottage was quiet, yet very close to amenities. Local beaches are really clean and we enjoyed some good walking to nearby towns. Local bus routes are within very easy reach and the free parking at the local Co-op was a bonus .....it was easy to park and then walk our luggage across the road to the cottage. We recommend this cottage for couples/singles and dog owners. (We don't have a four-legged friend, but they are obviously well catered for and welcomed on the local beach too).
Lovely cottage, everything provided for a nice stay, the only draw back for us was my husband is a bit immobile at the moment and you cannot drive up to the cottage and have to park across the road behind the coop, you drop luggage at the end of the road and carry it to the cottage.
The town is lovely and people are so friendly, a micro brewery at the of the road a 2 min walk, fish and chip shop turn right and its on the left, is within walking distance and the fish is fresh everyday from Whitby and they do scraps!! Several more bars/coffee shops in the precinct and plenty of places to eat outside. Locals are lovely so chatty with recommending places to go. Our dog loved the beach, it is steep getting down at Marske so my husband stayed at the top, all in all a lovely break with plenty of things to do and see, most of the car parks you pay on-line by an app!
The cottage was lovely, we had a slight problem with the heating.
The owner arranged for that to be sorted out within minutes, thanks Dee Dee and Linda. There was a welcome pack which was a nice thought. The cottage more than made up for the horrible weather. I would recommend the cottage to anybody.
A wonderful stay at Witts End Cottage.
We felt at home as soon as we opened the front door. Very clean, comfortable and homely. The heating was already on, when we arrived, which was a a lovely surprise and most welcome. The cottage is very well equipped and the welcome basket of fresh bread, milk, wine, beer, popcorn, doggie ball and treats was a fantastic surprise and a lovely touch. It is situated in a brilliant location in the village, surrounded by coffee shops, pubs, butchers, fish & chip shop, take away restaurants, Sainsburys and the Co-Op. We visited the beaches of Marske, Red Car, Saltburn, Sandsend, Robin Hood Bay and Whitby, which were stunning and very therapeutic. We didn’t want to go home and will definitely be coming back! The only comment we would make is that we would have liked a tv in the bedroom, but that’s personal choice. Thank you, De, for a wonderful break in your holiday home. Claire, Sean and Jack the dog x
Just returned from spending new year in wits end cottage.
The cottage itself was adorable! Everything you need. Thoughtful little welcome gifts for ourselves & our dog….lovely touch. I loved where it was situated, a cute cobbled little street hid away. Spent most days walking on the beach, which our Pooch loved. Everything you need, shops, cafes, pubs & wine bars (we particularly liked the lockdown). A short car ride to Redcar & saltburn-by-the-sea. We would definitely return to wits end cottage. The only slight issue was the shower head wasn’t long enough to reach down to wash our dog, after spending days on the beach he needed showering. Ended up doing it with a jug. The cottage was spotless. Good quality bedding & towels. Everything you need in the kitchen. Owners even provided fresh bread & milk, very thoughtful. Overall thoroughly enjoyed our stay, would book again….10/10
I'm so pleased we found this little gem, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.
We appreciated the tasteful, neutral decor and having a real Christmas tree there was absolutely lovely. We'd definitely consider staying there again.

Witts End is a charming small cottage in a lovely setting, at the end of a cobbled courtyard.
The cottage is very well equipped, very welcoming, and has a real 'home from home' feel to it. It is ideally placed for all the local shops, bars, pubs and restaurants, and is only a short walk from the excellent beach. With one of the best welcomes we've had so far, this is a great choice for a couple of relaxing days near the coast.

The owner was very helpful and made us feel most welcome, leaving some fresh bread, milk and goodies for our arrival. Our dog was also made to feel very welcome, with a bed and treats left out for him too.

Very close to the shops if anyone likes home made meat pies go to the butchers they are lovely. And Bertie loved his treats that were left at the house for him. big thank to the lady who phoned to say we had left a SD card for my husband camera. Angela

A very well stocked and clean property, an ideal location for touring around to the places that we wanted to see.
I would not hesitate to rebook this property if we were going to be in the area again.
We loved our week staying at Witt's End.
Very comfortable accommodation. We managed without an enclosed garden because there was a park less than 5 minutes walk for the dog. Very convenient for local amenities and a short walk to the beautiful beach. We hope to return.

Overall we had a lovely time here.
The accommodation was really nice. Everything is very close at hand. Just a short walk to the shops and bars. There's lots of walks to discover with our dog daisy. She was well happy.
The only issue for us, and it is because we took our dog, is that we were unable to let him off the lead outside of the property as there was no secure area available.
Had we not had him with us then we'd have no issues and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the property with that proviso

everything we needed was there .short walk to beach,within driving distance of many tourist places,and a great pizzaria close by.what I really loved we were treated like housetrained grown ups,no lists of do,s and donts.highly recommended

Absolutely loved our weekend there and will definitely use again. Host was lovely and very helpful. Marske beach superb for dog walking and walked the 2 miles to Saltburn on it.
We actually never got to Witts End as we were ill and had to cancel the trip completely.

We had a great week in Marske-by-the-Sea which has an excellent range of shops for a small place. We had a lovely time, visiting Rievaulx and Mount Grace Priory as well as Saltburn-By-The-Sea, Staithes and Whitby. My partner particularly enjoyed the coastal walks from the cottage.

The cottage was very comfortable and warm. The only thing to be concerned was where we had to park the car. But overall the cottage was lovely. Also the welcome pack was grand surprise and very enjoyable. The people who owned the cottage were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. Thank you and take care.

.I had everything I needed, what a gorgeous cottage quiet and so relaxing and a lovely personal gift basket for me and my dog, a slightly larger couch would have been nice but the one we had was very comfortable, my only niggle was the shelf under the mirror I'm a little clumsy and I banged my head a few times. I would highly recommend Witts End and Marske by the Sea it is a lovely friendly town with great access to fabulous beaches and stunning scenery.

The property was clean, comfortable and had all the necessary facilities for an enjoyable stay. I cant think of anything the owner missed out. The owner was very welcoming and helpful and was ready to answer any queries and requests for help. We also had a welcome pack of wine, bread, tea and snacks waiting for us. Our cat also had a welcome pack! There was a large comfy cat bed, litter, dry food and bowls-I couldn't believe it! She was well spoiled. The cottage had a homely, traditional air with solid, traditional furniture in keeping with the cottage itself, which I loved. Having said that, It was also equipped with all necessary, modern facilities: kitchen, cooker, fridge, washer, dryer, radiators TV and shower. We enjoyed our stay very much and would return.
We had a fabulous time in this wonderful, cosy and quiet property.
On arrival we were greeted by a very generous welcome pack and personal card which provided all the essential info re wifi codes etc. Our cockerpoo, Zena absolutely loved her welcome pack too and loved snoozing in the cosy dog bed provided for her after long walks along the beach. Whilst we didn't use it, the option to use Netflix is also a really nice extra. Generally the property is very well equipped (far better than many we've stayed in) although we would have appreciated a sieve to strain rice and a cheese grater. Also, and a personal preference maybe, bath sheets in the bathroom too. We thoroughly recommend the butchers just around the corner on the High Street, as well as the micro pub The Lockdown and The Dog House (both of these places were incredibly dog friendly).
We have had a marvellous week at Witts end , a perfect cottage for 2 .
We feel rejuvenated and rested after our stay . Loved the area , lots to do. We will return .

The welcome pack was a pleasant surprise and acknowledged the fact that your dog is also very much part of your holiday.
The off site parking isn't ideal and could be a problem for people with mobility issues. Against that, the property is clean, comfortable and extremely quiet. Perfect for unwinding!
Only drawback is having to park car 100 yards away, in public car park where you cannot see it.

Lovely extras such as bucks fizz, large package of crisps, some e tea coffee and hot chocolate, milk, bread and dog treats . Bed and sofa very comfortable. Towels and bed linen provided. Owner very friendly and wants to make sure your visit is as good as possible
First impressions - tucked away from the main road so nice and quiet.
Nice little sun trap in the courtyard . Very nicely decorated and furnished , we felt at home as soon as we walked in . There was a lovely welcome basket and a card from the owner, Dee Dee , with a contact number should we need anything. The cottage was well equipped and didn’t lack for anything . The bed was huge and very comfortable . The beautiful , soft white towels were gorgeous. I would definitely recommend Witts end cottage for a relaxing stay .

Very comfortable. Couldn't get WiFi to work but in relation to all else, not a problem.

Quiet comfortable lovely bed and settee dog bed also lovely and nice addition kitchen space a bit small not much room for stuff.
Parking in coop ok but walking to and fro with luggage a pain. Very clean and tidy tv needs an upgrade kept freezing and switching off on occasion. Generally a nice area but no plans to revisit
Witts End is an excellent place to stay, I liked it that much I came back again.
It has everything you need and more. Would definitely recommend to any couple or a lone person.. although I had no issues I contacted the landlord with a query once and immediately it was sorted, so that’s another added bonus. Great area, great place, and hidden away so no traffic driving by or people passing the window staring in..
We had a wonderful NY stay at Wit’s End cottage in Marske.
The cottage itself was a lovely little bolt hole for myself, my husband & our dog Vinny. The welcome hamper of wine, chocolate, crisps and fresh bread was a lovely touch (there was even milk in the fridge) and there was even a welcome pack for Vinny …the location was perfect for us and we had no issues parking on the coop car park which is literally opposite the little cobbled lane of Prospect Place. Beautiful big bedroom with king sized bed and lovely bed linen, fluffy towels…it really was all wonderful. There is no safe outside space for the dog to go outside alone (but they do tell you this) but we had no problem just popping his lead on last thing at night and first thing in the morning for a quick run round the corner. Frankie the owners daughter was super friendly and helpful. All in all we had a wonderful time, we will definitely go back and would highly recommend this cottage and this area. Thank you for a lovely break.
A nicely presented property.
It was clean and welcoming. We all felt very comfortable and relaxed there. The cars being parked at the Co op was a bit awkward but no problem. A great base for exploring the local area.
Nice comfotable clean every thing in good order .
downside parking .car was ok on the leisure centre car park but some may find it a pain getting all your belongings from there to the cottage and back .also it states patio /garden .there is no garden just the alley way courtyard outside the door to let the dog out not enclosed in any way .not a problem for us but maybe for some dog owners .fantastic beach 10 min walk away weather permitting. Great 3 mile walk along the beach to saltburn marske has all you need 2 supermarkets .2 micro pubs .2 large pubs .numerous cafes .even a dog cafe highly recommended for its great coffee and lovely staff .a great butchers who makes some of the best pork pies we have ever eaten.and top quality meat all in all a fab place to explore the surrounding area we were lucky weatber wise too

Marske is a friendly little town with excellent links to the local area. Would definitely go there again
It was just simply wonderful.
A relaxing and welcoming space. Owner had thought of everything, particularly for our pooch Rocky who settled better than anywhere else we have taken him. For the humans, a really nice welcome basket and there were even hair bobbles and cotton wool in the bathroom. The bed is so wonderfully comfortable and the area felt really safe even at midnight whilst walking Rocky. Beaches are beautiful. You should go - if you're at your Wits end, you won't be when you leave here!

This was one of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in.
Every thing was in excellent condition and superbly presented on arrival Wine, beer and pack of crisps in a welcome basket plus a fresh loaf of bread and milk. Bed really was very comfortable in a large bedroom. Only small ( very small ) down side was the car parking which was in the local Co-op car park. Not far to walk to the cottage and the car seemed safe enough. The cottage is a the end of vary narrow passage / terrace which is just possible to get the car down depending on the size of car. Overall this was a great place to stay and I would recommended it.
The accommodation was very comfortable everything was there that you needed.
The welcome gives were very much appreciated and it was nice the dog was included in package the dog treets were welcomed and also the comfy bed for her.
The cottage is lovely, really tastefully renovated, well equipped with everything you could need.
It was scrupulously clean when we arrived and there were masks, hand sanitiser and wipes provided, so it felt very safe in the current circumstances. It is tucked away in a quiet walkway in the middle of the village, very close to shops, cafes and pubs and a 10 minute walk to the impressive beach. It is a great base for exploring North Yorkshire. The owner provided flowers and a welcome hamper. Note that the cottage is on a road not safe for vehicles, so parking is in a supermarket car park opposite the terrace. There was always space, so no problem.

Something wrong with the heating,the cottage was cold.
The boiler kept comming on and off but radiators were cold. Nice cottage but the boiler in the bedroom is a no no. Electric shower was leaking from the case, not the hose, this was a bit worrying. Cottage was ok and if the heating has a timer fitted to turn it off at night,that would be a good option,definitely a new shower needed,boiler & heating checked .
