  • "The cottage is lovely and could not be in a better position, the beds were comfortable, but the cleaning regime could be improved!"

I lost something down the back of the sofa went to retrieve it and there was dry breakfast cereal all down the back, the seat covers in the dining area were all stained and grubby and plates and cutlery had to be well washed before use. The cottage just needs some TLC and it would be perfect.

  • "I received check in/out details with several different times for both."

Emailed Sykes for clarification and got no response. The cottage listing does not state access to yeoman terrace is on foot only. As a senior citizen I found carrying my luggage, which included a case of dog food, while holding a dog lead difficult. It required many trips. No tumblers for soft drinks or water. The cottage is in a good position close to all amenities and the beach. Lovely walks along the beach even at high tide.

  • "Had a wonderful holiday in the beautiful Marske by the sea, the cottage was lovely, clean, comfortable and so close to all immunities."

  • "Positives: The quiet, sandy beach of Marske is a stone’s throw from the cottage; Saltburn cliff with its abundance of fossils is a pleasant walk along the beach."

The beds are comfortable enough and there’s an abundance of towels. But, the cottage is in an alleyway with no road-side parking even for safe loading/ unloading. The internet is unreliable, off again, on again! The pots, pans, placemats, oven trays were all grimy and sticky. The rug in the living room is ragged and dirty. There was no cafetière or coffee percolator, not even a strainer to make coffee. There is a neighbourhood cat which will sneak in and run upstairs as soon as the door is open. It bit our 7-year-old quite badly! Overall, disappointing, to say the least.

Very quiet yet close to the shops and beach. Spotlessly clean. We'll definitely be back!

  • "Cottage was full of character and had everything you could need."

Marske is a beautiful village with lots of shops that you can need and a gorgeous beach within 5 minutes walk. We walked to both Redcar and then Saltburn another day. Lots of public transport that is very frequent too. Would come back to the area again.

  • "We had a lovely stay at Yeoman Terrace but along with the other reviews we have read about the place we agree that it could do with a little tlc."

The doors/locks are stiff and difficult to shut, the stair carpet was coming away from the tread halfway up the stairs and the on/off button was broken off the kettle making it difficult to use(I'm sure they are aware of this as we found the button in the cupboard!). It all seemed very clean and tidy but after reading your website about cleanliness in covid times I was surprised to see all the books, games, dvd's etc had been left in place which made me wonder whether it had been cleaned as well as I hoped. In normal times I wouldn't have given that a second thought, but we didn't let it affect our enjoyment of our stay.

  • "Although the cottage was placed in a lovely area the overall stay was marred by the fact that this cottage was not very clean at all."

There was an old water bottle under one of the beds that had been there for goodness knows how long and a dusty old fleece hung up behind one of the doors. Someone had made a comment a year ago about the toilet seat in the outside toilet being broken and it was still broken. I had to rewash all the cups/ plates etc as they looked dirty and were chipped. The place overall just seemed tired and in need of some tlc. I believe this property is managed rather than the owners doing the work as it lacked pride in the appearance. Crockery didn’t match, downstairs internal doors didn’t close and the oven was dirty. There was no welcome pack and it just lacked the normal Sykes quality that we’ve come to expect in your cottages.

  • "We had a wonderful 5 days and the cottage had everything we needed for our requirements however, the bathroom is desperately in need of repair."

The shower door is broken as is the toilet seat and the outside yard is very badly in need of a clean. Also was not at all impressed when a workman turned up to look at the bathroom and he had a key to the house in his hand to let himself in!! We were not informed of his visit and I can't see why his visit was not organised for the day we left or between bookings. Overall really enjoyed our stay and we would rebook this cottage but essential repairs should be a priority and have been outstanding for a long time as is evident from the visitors book

Problems with parking, due to delivery of materials, scaffolding etc. plus workmen. I should like to see my car from the cottage, but that wasn't possible. Outside space at cottage a bleak yard with a small table and two chairs.

  • "It was a lovely cottage but there were one or two niggles."

The seats in both toilets were loose. The doors upstairs could do with painting to smarten them up. Reception on TV was very poor and at certain times of day couldn’t watch it. The biggest problem however was the lack of WiFi. We didn’t want a telephone only a router to connect to the internet. We were houehunting but couldn’t find out any of the information we needed and this was a real pain.
