  • “An excellent little cottage.”

Well maintained and equipped. The owners live on site and couldn't be more friendly and helpful. They have lots of plans for the future and we would definitely like to visit again in the future to see how these have developed. An earlier guest considered the cooking facilities were inadequate for self catering. We are of a different opinion and consider a 2 ring hob, an oven and a microwave perfectly adequate for 2 people. There is a good sized fridge freezer and plenty of utensils ...

There is a good sized fridge freezer and plenty of utensils. Additionally the bed was very comfortable and the shower was excellent, combine that with two flat screen TV's and and a SMEG flame effect fire plus central heating and you have a comfortable yet quirky place to stay. Outside the grounds are beautiful and well maintained, with probably the best sea views in the area. Whitby Abbey can be seen on the horizon. The Hare and Hounds pub in Hawsker is excellent and the staff are very Covid aware. They do great meals and also takeaways and the service is first class. You need to phone them to book a table but it is well worth the effort. One thing to be aware of and that is there is no DVD player in the lounge. However if you want to watch DVDs in the lounge it is simple matter to plug in your own DVD player by the HDMI connection. The TV in the bedroom does have a DVD player incorporated. Many thanks to the owners Carrie and James for a comfortable, pleasant and relaxing stay. Liz and Rod.

The property

Hawsker 1 mile.

This endearing compact stone cottage, an annexe to the owner's home, is close to the small village of Hawsker and just three miles from both Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay.

With glorious garden views towards the sea and Abbey, this delightful property is perfect for couples wanting to explore the spectacular scenery of the North York Moors and the dramatic heritage coastline.

Imaginatively converted, The Hayshed provides rustic and quirky accommodation, with the use of reclaimed timber and exposed stone work.

Full of charm and character, there is an open plan living area, with stripped wooden floors and a bespoke hand-crafted kitchen with retro appliances.

The large picture window throws in plenty of sunlight and houses the glass dining table, where guests can sit and enjoy a meal whilst admiring the views.

In the comfortable sitting area, there is a cosy electric stove creating a warm and homely feel for a romantic night in.

With superb attention to detail, the bespoke timber staircase leads up to the double bedroom, with a built-in bed and an en-suite shower room.

Across the drive, guests have private use of an enclosed meadow garden; a lovely spot to sit with a glass of bubbly and watch the sun go down over the sea!

A few minutes’ drive brings you to the ancient fishing village of Robin Hood's Bay, with its steep, winding cobbled streets lined with quaint cottages tumbling towards the sea.

Explore the hidden coves, stroll along the beach, or take an invigorating cliff top walk along the long distance Coast to Coast trail.

The popular seaside town of Whitby has long, sandy beaches, a beautiful historic harbour and its famous 199 steps leading up to the Abbey, perched high on the cliffs.

Partake in afternoon tea in one of the cafes, sample the restaurants, including the very best of fish and chips, or enjoy a cocktail in one of the trendy bars.

The cobbled market place and narrow ginnels are a joy to meander around, with lots of independent shops and a wealth of local inns.

With both the countryside and the coast on the doorstep, this gem of a property is one not to be missed!
